Of that list, remarkably only Dai Ward and Geoff Bradford get near Matty's goals per game record. How many of the players, other than Mattteee Tee, in the list played non league and 4th division football for Rovers, my guess is about nil. Difficult to compare really. Come on, you know the answer to that! Yes you are right nil, only MT played non league and div 4 for Rovers. And we'd have been up the creek without a paddle (I could be much ruder but I won't) without his goals to put us back into our natural position. We could have been comparing ourselves with Wrexham and Torquay at best or even Stockport at worst without his goals. Thank you MT, true Rovers legend.

To be fair if scoring goals at Conf and L2 level is so easy, you'd have to question how we ended up at that level in the first place.

Any decent striker we have had over the years has been sold to the first offer and money has not gone on a replacement.
Just look at Matty, he could have gone elsewhere but we were lucky he stayed here. If he hadn't we may have been looking at the other end of the table again. Trollope had some level of success but all other manager apart from Gerry (first time) and DC, the rest have been shocking, so a combination of the above is probably why we ended up in the basement, imo.

Oxford clearly did. He was wanted he just didn't get the offer he wanted. Who wouldn't want L2's top goalscorer on a free???

I hope it's not the same source that claimed MT had signed a pre-contract with Hearts last January. I hope it is. Spooky just shouted out the same!

According to a poster on the other forum Matty is off to Swansea in Jan apparently. I hope it's not the same source that claimed MT had signed a pre-contract with Hearts last January. I think you mean you hope it is (Gasincider) as it'll be wrong again?

I see some A hole on One Turd has resorted to wishing serious injury on Matty to stop him scoring.
What a Lady Garden.

I just had a quick look there too and found this gem;
"They are already massively over achieving and have a dependence on one striker banging in loads of goals (just like Salisbury did)"
Err...where do I start!! lol

Since he re-signed I've had a feeling he'd be going in January. I don't know where, but it's just what I think.
To my mind Luke James has been brought in as his replacement, and the reason he isn't getting games and isn't playing up top when he comes on is so we don't end up increasing his value before we buy him.

Averaging a goal a game. Unbelievable. Must be one of the greatest goalscorers we've ever had at the club, and to think he was plucked from non-league on a free. Well done Matty T and Darrell Clarke. Anyone that knows anything about football can see we're very lucky to have them both.

Keith Brookman mentioned during radio commentary that Matty T has now hit 60 goals for the Gas. Moves him up level with Hamilton, Meyer & Penrice.

Some say we can't compare his stats because he got some of the goals in non league, but his goals per game records have improved with each step up in class: Conference season: 49 apps, 20 goals - 0.41 goals per game League 2 season: 50 apps, 28 goals - 0.56 goals per game League 1 season: 17 apps, 11 goals - 0.65 goals per game Goes to show his improvement over time. Now if he could just improve on those pesky one-on-ones!
