So I watched the Alty highlights and didn't think we looked to bad, they seemed to show more of us and we put together some decent moves apart from our banana skins of course. The beard needs to improve his discipline I think. Could someone who went elaborate a bit further. Did the highlights do us to much justice?

It was absolutely shocking mate. I was at York away (McGhee's last game) Oxford away (6-1) and honestly, hand on heart, Saturday was worse.

its interesting that we looked better in the highlights than we did live and lee mansell figured much more in the alty tv thing than he appeared to live. altricham played quite a lot of intricate passing sequences which rovers struggled against but didnt show up in the highlights also some of our risky passing amongst the back four wasnt shown but looked pretty awful live . the other thing was when we got a goal 76 mins,we were unable to put them under any pressure and they actually kept possession and looked more like scoring a 3rd albeit with sinclair off

They looked slicker on the ball than Altrincham when they had it but their bodies and minds weren't synchronised. It's a mental thing that happens to teams in situations like this. The pressure gets to them and they spend too much time ball-watching instead of dictating the play. All the little things go against them, there's no flow in their play and they don't get the bounce of the ball. Football is very much a confidence sport and things can change in a flash. A couple of good results and who knows. A real frontman is needed in the box for the other strikers to play off and to get defenders on the back foot. We're really limp up front and have no real ballholder, which allows defences to push further up the field in support. But we needed a frontman all last season and never got one. Altrincham went out and enjoyed themselves with no pressure at all because they had all to win and nothing to lose.

Thought it was 50 / 50, apart from the all important goals tally.

We started off looking like it was going to be a stroll and had several chances to open the scoring and it looked like a goal would open the floodgates but we lost the game rather than they won it because we made awful individual mistakes and didn't mark the opposition. The back four spend too much time dwelling on the ball and end up putting each other in trouble and don't concentrate on the basics. In midfield Clarke is the worse ball watcher I have seen and Mansell was pretty well left on his own in there. Brunt, like Harrold has not built a partnership with anybody and we really need to work as a team and the ball needs to go forward via the midfield and the defence need to move up and mark tight. They consistently allow their opponents to move away from them and it ended up with poor players being allowed too much time. I have to say I really do not know what DC and MS do in training because there is no evidence whatsoever of the players knowing what they are doing.
