Perhaps Santos put in some torrid performances for Derby and was sent to Eastleigh as punishment?

Christie, Hughes, Thorne etc. all did it at 20, 21. Not to say Santos was ever gonna be as good as those guys, but on loan to Eastleigh approaching 22 doesn't bode well. I hope he does well, but his problem with us was physicality. At 17 or 18, fair enough. But 'toughening up' now three years on when he's been surrounded by great coaches and facilities probably means he'll drop again at the end of the season when his contract's up.

Just because a player is small it doesn't necessarily mean he won't make it some of the all time greats are / where small but the thing they all had in common was a low centre of gravity and the ability to stay on their feet from a shoulder barge or hard but fair tackle. If Santos can learn that he's got a bright future in the game I reckon.

Never seen a player as out of his depth as santos. The worst proper winger I've seen for the gas. He just constantly fell over, maybe it was nerves. Or the grass might have been a bit longer back in those days!😁

Only on the bench for Derbys under 21's last night in the EFL Trophy match, probably tells it all. That is a very astute comment. So much for the competition being used to develop the best young English (qualified) talent...

Wow, thanks for the football and Geography lesson. I always thought Derby and Mangotsfield were virtually next to each other, both physically and in a football sense, thanks for clearing that up. Also, and only in my opinion, if Santos was such a prospect I would have expected him to have broken into the under performing Derby first team squad. I saw him in all his appearances for us, and I just couldn't see what all the fuss was about. He just didn't appear to have a great deal of talent, for that would have shown through, even if he was wanting a bit physically. Only my opinion, and I'll be he first to admit I don't have the tiniest fraction of the footballing knowledge of the titanic icon that is John Ward. Your opinion was at odds with the Derby talent scouts then! My point about Mangoes was that most of our players that aren't cut out for us, end up at clubs like that..not move up a level to your Derby Countys. I have no doubt that you haven't a clue where Derby is in relation to Mangotsfield. True. The problem is totally the EPPP and the Academy system. They can hoover up players from 'lesser' academies, and pay a pittance for them. And what young player is honestly going to say no to that? It makes a mockery of developing a player and reduces not only the compensation to a mathematical formulae but also the life of a young talented footballer to a mathematical system - do this, do that, think this, think that. The number crunchers have decided it's better to be at a top academy, playing other top academies on perfect pitches, in front of 2 men and a whippet, than playing real football. And Academies are rated on a tick box system, so if you have a hot tub it's better than just 10 men farting in a bath at twerton "badges, badges, we don't need no stinking badges"
