Not so sure - in the current inflated world of transfer fees he probably is worth nearer that to a championship side than we would dare believe - consistent proven goal scorer over 3 seasons of progression - look at Kodjia bought from a 3rd division French side ? Goes after one season to another championship side for 11m possibly rising to 15M - on that basis well Taylor going for 7M possibly rising to 10M doesn't seem that absurb to me I agree but it does seem absurd when they could have got him for free in the summer. I really can't understand why a championship side didn't gamble on him. If wage demand rumours were in any way accurate, it's quite understandable. However I suspect some of the lower Championship clubs will be monitoring his progress closely. Ipswich have been pretty goal shy this season so I wouldn't be surprised if they made a move in January.

I'd take £6 million and a loan back until the end of the season. That way we can bring back Lambert to partner him up top and score us the goals to win the league. Lambert is past it. Have to admit he certainly isn't the same player he was here. Mind you, he was younger and playing at a lower standard. Saints was the pinnacle of his career, that rise from L1 to Prem was great.

Yet we only got 1 million for Lambert, which makes 10 million for Matty Taylor even more ludicrous.

Past it is very harsh. Not the player he once was but you don't lose the sort of footballing brain Lambert has and that's really what separates him from some of the other strikers we've had over the years. The man thinks like a top level footballer which is why he got as far in the game as he did. Has 2 in 8 for Cardiff in the Championship and I think he could convert that to a 1 in 3 ratio for us in League One, not to mention the chances he'd create for MT. Would welcome RL back with open arms myself. What's he lost. Speed? He never had it in the first place. What he has got is a great football brain and he won't lose that. Not that I think we should sing him. He was great for us but we are in a different place now. If we want a striker let's scour the non league for a young hungry, on-the-way-up player. UTG!

I dont think we should be taking risks with conference level strikers, we have James who I think is the natural replacement, probably lacking in a bit of confidence but hes certainly the replacement, if we are going to get someone in id prefer an experienced player from champ or div 1 level.

Whilst in hindsight we probably did get less for Lambert than we could have, the market has changed so much in that time. Would you have seen Roofe and O'Dowda go for their fees in 2009? No chance. Kodjia, McCormack etc. all show crazy fees are filtering down the tiers. Rosenior is mad though, around £2-2.5m has to be good value for a top scoring L1 striker these days.

Was Taylor not a risk? Hardly played for FGR. Would hate to see us go back to our old ways, 'experience' and 'quality' over hard working players who fit the system.

That's true, I just hope that his contract is more than 1 year, and if he has a fee release clause then its around the amount you've quoted.

I don't think Taylor was a risk at the time as we were in the same league and he had scored some goals in that league.
I know a couple of Chester fans (god help them!) who pretty much described Taylor as many gasheads do today. He scored 6 in 7 for them and I think they tried to sign him when we did.
I agree that we should be looking at players 'on the up' rather than experienced ones looking for a decent payday. Then again maybe we have a replacement in Luke James, at least with him we wouldn't have transfer fees hiked following the sale of Taylor and I think he will be great given a run of games.

BBC has got it wrong. I remember an assist from Taylor for Lines' goal in the 2-1 win over Gillingham. From the BBC's own report of the game: Great goal - UtG

I think £10m is fair, why should we get ripped off just because we're a league 1 team? Players were going for silly money in the Championship, so far MT has scored over 20 in each league (and only 6 away from doing the same in this league!). £10m for a player who's only played a handful of League 1 games is outrageous. We'd be lucky to get £2m imo.

I would be more than happy if Sh it head Rosenior stopped hawking our best player to all and sundry in the lower Prem/Championship and even more grateful if the Bristol (City 1982 ltd) Evening Post stopped lending this buffoon a platform to air his ridiculous views.
One of the constants of his joke column is how he always makes predictions that turn out to be spectacularly inaccurate. As well as that, the local rag allows him to spout opinions that are formed with the exact science of hindsight. His attempts at journalism really do scale the depths of abject and abysmal punditry, and the Evil really ought to put him out of his misery and invite him to find another rag in which to air his half-arsed opinions and views.

Matty T will already be on other team's radars through the plethora of stats available online.
