I don't want is to get in the playoffs. Every year it's relegation or promotion drama. This time I'll settle for a solid LG1 position with some strong recruitment between now and next August. the single most important thing imo is the stadium situation. looking up the leagues is pointless with our current infrastructure. So, 55-65 points and some stadium progression for me. 55 points would be a very stressful second half of the season with lots of defeats. 4 go down and the last position will probably finish on 50-52 points. We could go unbeaten and finish on 55 points...

We could go unbeaten and finish on 55 points... If we drew every game yes which isn't going to happen and even if it did it would still see us dropping down the league towards the drop zone. If you'd be happy with 55 points fair enough but I wouldn't I think this squad and manager are capable of better than that at this point.

Why do we have to deal in absolutes? If DC cocked a few transfer decisions up in the last window why does that mean he can't ever make good transfer decisions?
It is ridiculous and it belies the fact that people can learn from their mistakes and improve at their jobs - something that DC has obviously done year on year given how many promotions he has overseen.
It's the same way of thinking as saying player X is simply not up to league 1 standard when he has a couple of bad games. If the manager had taken this view, the likes of Billy Bodin, Danny Leadbitter, Tom Lockyer, Chros Lines and Rory Gaffney would already be out on their ear. The bulk of our squad has improved year on year from conference to 10th in league 1. There may be one or two who have hit a ceiling but I wouldn't be confident in naming more than that.

We would finish on 56 points if we drew every game. Happy days! Exactly! I share your realism, but I am very happy to think that we could average less than a point a game from here on in and still stay up.

I think bloody big and actually think the lads and DC have what it takes so i'm going with 75+ points. The last two seasons we've got more confident and stronger in second half of season. My task and wish for the team is to finish like Mo Farah not soddin Brendan Foster and i think they will.
Play offs are there for the taking.
Happy new year to everyone. Be safe.

I think we will make the playoffs, but not sure about Wembley.
We're second bottom for goals conceded, but are 3rd on goals scored. If we can sign a new spine, then we'll be marching up the table in no time. A new keeper, a new CB and a new DCM and we'll be laughing.
Combine an improvement in form, a few more wins and a few places gained, and a continued slip for our dirty red neighbours, and the atmosphere at the Mem will be electric at the prospect of finally closing the gap and/or a first season in the Championship level for almost 20 years and the first in Bristol in over 30, the first time for many a fans life.

An experienced keeper. A new left back who can tackle. A nasty c*nt in the middle. A big striker that can hold the ball up and score with his head (Lambert-style). That's what we need to be a squad in with a shout of the play-offs.

If we continue our general form / difficulty against the top teams we will prob struggle to get in playoffs.
We've only beaten 1 team above us (fleetwood) & even that was when they were below us.
But if we continue to put the lower teams to the sword & improve our away form we might stand a chance.

Hello Gasheads, so we have reached the half-way mark in the season - 23 games and 33 points. If we replicate that in the next 23 then we will get 66 points - so likely to miss out on the play-offs. How do you think things will go for us till the end of the season ? In my view, I think we'll struggle to get over 60 without replacements - a must for me is a keeper and a CB to make us harder to score against. If we really go for it (a play-off place) - then we need a better finisher to partner Taylor and an experienced RB. Gaffney and Leadbitter are making good progress but they are not consistent enough yet to play every game for us. What do you think ? How many points will we get ? We are bound to make improvements to the squad and i would say around 66 - 70 points is realistic. Not expecting the play offs it should stay in with a shout

I don't know who the f☺️☺️☺️ he is but say Keith the chimp is really ITK Paul Jones decent keeper, Jay Oshea well rated at Chesterfield they would push us on, with a decent strong centre half and a tidy striker we wold be in the play offs!

I would love all those posters saying we will be in the play offs to be right but I will be happy to do the same as the first half of the season and finish just outside the play offs. I think there are probably at least 6 better teams than us and although this squad always surprise me with what they can do. I just feel that with better teams to play if we finish in the top half of the table that will be a very good season and be the icing on the cake over the past 3 seasons. Don't think the ground situation comes into this. Yes it's crap but filling it with 11000 is still as good as some Championship clubs and we can't keep saying we don't want to go up until it's sorted. Blimey, if we said that over the past 40 years we would have missed out on 5 promotion. True it's not great but you take the opportunities when they arise and we need to do the same now. I just don't think we'll be quite good enough this time. After the summer recruitment I don't expect DC to do much business despite what he's said. But I think he will bring a couple in that will be automatic choices and be a good basis for more recruitment in the Summer. Mind you if Taylor goes then we might see more activity but it's the Summer when lots will go that we will see more transfers. Have just posted on another thread that Grimsby keeper James McKeown is not in the team at the moment under the new manager and I always thought he was one of the best keepers in the Conference. Mid 20s, over 300 games so he's experienced and I would have thought he was the type DC might be looking at. UTG!

General comment -
Every season so far DC has kept a considerable part of the budget back for later in the season, and used loans a lot in first part of season, allowing him to look at the whole squad before deciding...

I'd be happy to copy what we've just done in second half. But if we got 55 points you're right it would mean a lot of defeats because we won't draw every match. Once you start losing you get drawn into the worst kind of cycle and wonder where your next win is coming from. Not being the strongest defensively means we are vulnerable to a few heavy defeats. In this league no ones been cut adrift it is all very very close. One win or defeat and a win for a few teams below us could mean we drop 3/4 places in a week. I guess it's an old cliche, but one that served us well after Christmas last year, we must take every game one at a time and think we can win it and see where we finish. This team can do very well, but is still vulnerable. UTG!

If anyone want to know where were going to finish this season, just wait until the end of February. We're playing 5 of the top 6 sides, so well sink or swim bard on that.

I think we have our eyes firmly set on a playoff place and team will give it everything to get there. Why do otherwise?

IF we can get in the playoffs brilliant. IF we can win the playoffs fantastic.
The championship would be very tough, but I'd fancy a year attempting to stay in it, even though it could be hard at times. I remember the 92-93 , strangely still fondly, been waiting a long time to get back their and right it. Even if we we're to get relegated straight back then it would progress the club far more than a few seasons at the top of league one - we'd be able to sign all sorts of players if we were a championship club.
However, realistically a top 10 finish would be great. 66 points I'd be happy.

The manager has said he expects play offs as a minimum. Me too! That's a stretching target we will all be pleased with. If we get promoted again, then it would be ground breaking. I'm so pleased we have a manager that does not mid table. We are more ambitious than that. Great stuff. I'm expecting at least play offs.

You got to love the ambition of this man. Inspiring stuff.
"I don't see why we can't kick on again over the second-half of the season. We usually pick up over Christmas and the gaffer has given us a target to better the number of points that we got over the first 23 games."
Sounds like targets/goals are being set. Go ...
