Steve Hamer stated "we were powerless in bid to keep Matty Taylor" If the £300K clause is correct who is responsable for negotiating such a ridiculous contract? We offer £6-8k a week without protecting our own interests, another castasraphy in business, will we ever learn. FFS, what's more money 300k or nothing?

Ok, let's be clear about the club's position here... Star striker is at the end of his contract in the summer and is fully aware of his worth, as you would expect. He's on his way for a big pay day and maybe a bigger club. Our club do everything possible to keep him because his goals are crucial to us. The only way we can keep him though is to agree to his demands (he holds all the cards). Unfortunately, this includes a release clause of what is probably a low amount relative to his actual value. Crucially though, it's higher than his value AT THAT TIME and therefore makes sense to agree to in the hope (and it could be no more than that) that he would stay long term.
So,let's not get on Wael's back, or DCs. They surely could not do anything else. If we must express our anger, let's aim it at the modern day footballer who has no concept (or just doesn't care) about what it means to be a fan. For him, it's a job, probably just like yours and mine.
I'm gutted Taylor has gone as I loved watching him play. But now is the time to pull together and get on with supporting this team that we've become so proud of in recent seasons. Yes, we're angry now but remember this is a good time to be a Gashead...seldom have we had this much optimism. Trust the best manager this club has had in a generation and get behind the Gas.
The future is (still) bright, the future is (still) blue and white.

Exactly. We obviously don't know for sure if the release clause is actually true. Though, assuming it is, if it weren't for that then we could well have been looking at £5 millon as a minimum. Ali Durden quote 'release clause activated', so very likely true. Just hope it was at least 500k.
Im hoping it was higher considering our manager came out saying he wouldn't accept 10 million for him, knowing what he had in his contract when he said it.
DC needs to clear that up as its clearly BS and now we look like chumps.

Getting bored of this 300k figure now. Could have walked away in the summer. We've put him in shop window & currently well up the table with thanks to his goals (whether we would have done as well without him is unanswerable). Any cash is a bonus. If he went for x millions of course if should be undisclosed. If we are sniffing around Ricky Miller whilst waving a wad of Guernseys cash I'd expect Dover to up the price tag a bit

The whole release clause points to peanuts. An unproven league 1 striker wouldn't have a 1 million quid release clause. 300 grand sounds about right for someone who only wanted to be here to put himself in the shop window.
