What do you think the chances are of Rovers in the Premiership & England wining the World Cup in my lifetime? I am 54 years old and I have watched the gas since I was 9 years old when my older brother used to take me. I have always said that I would love to see both before I shuffle off this mortal coil, I realise I am running out of time but I live in hope! Rovers would be my preferred one, am I being greedy wishing for both or just an ageing fool?
Thoughts ?

Both, almost none.
World Cup, almost none.
Prem, I'd have said almost none, but Bournemouth have shown us it can be done.
Also, to be fair, you've already seen England win the World Cup in your lifetime, you lucky git.

Whilst there's a chance of Rovers fulfilling your Prem dream, there's zero chance of England winning the World Cup as long as the media keep destroying both managers and players the way they do.

Far from impossible. I'd say about 2/1 for the Gas to be in the premiership within the next 30 years, and about similar odds for England to win the World Cup in that time. So combined odds of 8/1 in my book. I must stress though, that I am no bookie

When I was a kid I would probably, marginally, have gone for an England world cup over Rovers in the old First Division. It would have been such a massive event for millions in the country.
I feel different in two ways now. One, I don't care about England any more. All my faith has been knocked out of me. Two, I don't think I want to see us in the Premier league. The ragbag club we all know would change completely and a lot of the spirit would be lost.
Of course, I know I'd forget all that sentimental b*llocks if we got to the Championship playoffs.
As for the chances of either, about equal I'd say. Both possible but not probable in the future.
In your lifetime? Hmm. Just stop eating pies and drinking cider and you might just do it.

I'm still not sure I really want Rovers in the Prem. £50 plus a ticket , unlikely to get tickets to away games. Tourist football fans. Half & half scarves for sale outside the ground etc etc etc

Rovers to reach the premiership , I've always used this word very sparingly ,I only use it on special occasions ,it would be a WONDERMENT .

Gas in the prem, a possibility in the long term. Look at Bournemouth, Swansea, Wigan. Before the 82'ers probably. As for England, more chance of me getting pregnant by natural means with bunch of London centric, small minded, incompetent, money grabbing feckwits that run the FA still being in charge.

If he Al Quadis are serious about developing Rovers, and if we achieve a position of prominence in the Championship then I feel the Prem is not beyond us.
I guess we would be looking at a 10 year time scale, with a modern stadium and proper training facilities I don't see why not. Look at the he catchment area we have compared to the "smaller" clubs in and around the Prem.
I can imagine that, if we were getting that big there would likely be some serious investment available from the Middle East. I think it's a given they would want a piece of that action.

But would we really want our Rovers to be full of mercenary African and second tier European players like, for example, Hull City? Develop our own players to reach the Championship: evolution not revolution, then see what happens. I'd rather we were a Burnley or Norwich than a Bournemouth - keeping the local identity integrity.

Away fan tickets should be capped in all leagues. Or at least be the same as home fans.

Could you imagine buying a half Rovers, half Oldham scarf? The only half & half scarf I'd ever consider buying would be a Rovers - England one. I find it so cringe-worthy when I'm watching Man Utd V Chelsea on TV, the camera pans around to the crowd, and there's a bloke there, with his camera in hand, with a half Man Utd & half Chelsea scarf on. Ggrrrrrr rant over!

As far as England goes BREXIT could make a difference because EU players will not be able to come here without a visa and so English youngsters will get a better chance to play for our teams and consequently should make the England team stronger. As far as Rovers are concerned keeping DC is the key. If he stays for a few more years and gets support from the owners a possibility
