Even it means offering improvements on existing contracts and removing any 'buy out' clauses if applicable as a trade off!! Not really convinced about Browner - sadly. Agreed, gentlemen's agreements with other clubs are not enough for me, they don't stand up in court and they are especially useless when they are made with someone who cannot be considered to be a 'gent'! I don't know the answer but I do wonder if there is a legal, and enforceable, way to write into a players actual contract that when the time comes to move on, there is no way they are allowed to move to the sh** unless they have actually come to the end of their contract with us and are able to leave on a free.

Didn't Lockyer & Browner sign new deals before the end of last season? I had assumed they were longer than 12month contracts but who knows?!
Well done OC for earning your new deal and proving so many wrong!
Maybe but do we know how long for? I say lets extend their contracts for a minimum of the next 2 seasons from the end of this season so that both the club and our top players reconfirm their commitment to each other. I agree with tying down those particular players who you have mentioned.
There is though a balance to be struck between security of a long term contract (for player and club) and keeping them hungry with shorter term deals. We've seen in the past what can happen when you have a group of players on long term deals and the issues which occur when those players stop performing.
I hope that Darrell continues to have success on this front and have no reason to doubt him!

He's been fantastic this year , just goes to show the benefits of sticking with our youth products. Nobody would of batted a eyelid if he had left the club 2 years ago.

Yes! Well done Ollie, DC & BRFC. I have to say this once again shows the brilliant tactics of DC. He's locking in our best players well ahead of the summer transfer window to avoid the risk of them being poached by some unscrupulous championship clubs ;-) Let's hope he has the same thing planned for other crucial players we need to hold onto for next season like Billy, Monty, Danny, Sincs, Browner, Lockyer. UTG! Even it means offering improvements on existing contracts and removing any 'buy out' clauses if applicable as a trade off!! Not really convinced about Browner - sadly. firstly and most importantly - Absolutely delighted that the most improved player this year has signed an extension. Thank you Ollie. Cannot agree with you about Lee Brown; hardly missed a match for 4 years, has never had adequate cover until recently, gives 110% every match, and for at least 30 months was our best and most consistent player. He rarely misses a match through injury but we don't know whether he Plays through injuries. More importantly, I think the rest of the squad has improved to catch up with him, not that he is a poor player. Now he has competition and more opportunity to rest and recover, he will push on again.
