Just got home and boy did we make that look hard in the second half.
Gaffers was my MoM today. Worked his socks off and was everywhere. Good hold up play, great control bringing balls down out of the air and finished his chance well. Should have gotten a second with a shot which he gave power over placement.
Clarke again was great in the engine room. Great finish for his goal as well.
Lines showing great leadership and passion. At 2-1 his shout of "**** sake lads are we going to to get tight or what" steadied us after us looking nervous.
Sweeney was a rock as usual but nearly got himself in proper hot water with a haul on their striker as the last man. The ball was heading in the direction of the corner flag and not directly through on goal which is why the ref gave the yellow, it wasn't a clear cut opportunity. A red would not have surprised me though.
Leadbitter was excellent up and down the flanks providing some much improved crosses.
Monty played well. Left side went dead once Moore came on who did his usual nothing. I really don't see the player that DC obviously sees.
Everyone will obviously groan about James and his Pen miss but he had a good game, got in excellent positions, set up Gaffers goal, won the pen, brought one excellent save from their keeper with a raking diagnal drive and generally battled well. You can see though that he is short on confidence in the final ball/shooting area.
All in all a decent performance but we need to put teams to bed when we get the chances. On another given Sunday we could've had a very different result.

I'm not knocking the lad, he worked hard and linked well with Gaffers but from what I've seen of him he doesn't look like scoring. He's not even missing chances, he's simply not getting them. water poor penalty too.

i have to be brutally honest here, but for all of luke James hard work and effort there is little result. I actually understand the fans love of him because he's a propper terrier type player biting at the ankles, showing the commitment that we all want to see at our club, but.... is he actually good enough?

My take on today we should have been out of sight by half time but got sloppy for twenty minutes in the 2nd half which let them back into a game they shouldn't have had a sniff in. I feel for James you could sense the whole crowd willing him to score the pen. On a positive note I think it shows the togetherness of the squad that at 2-0 they gave him the pen, in hindsight maybe Bodin (assume he would have been on pens) should have taken it & put the game to bed. Onwards & upwards 7 to go you never know.

It sort of seemed like a good idea at the time. Not letting him have it may have destroyed him further if he felt his teammates have no confidence in him. All went a bit tits up when he actually f**ked up the pen! Worse possible outcome really.

I aam of the opinion that whoever is the usual pen taker should always take them (except maybe if someone is on a hat trick)

Couldn't make the game today as my father in law has been hospitalised with a brain tumour but so glad we won it's cheered me up and although he's not his usual self and keeps forgetting things he did ask me how we're doing and was pleased to know we were 2-0 up at half time. UTG Rovers until we die. Sorry to hear this - we had similar with my sister-in-law 6 months ago and she is doing well, keep the faith + best wishes.

We were saying exactly this at half time. Could definitely see the logic of him taking it and at the time we were so much on top you couldn't see them coming back but once he'd missed there was always a nagging feeling it could come back to haunt us. Luckily that wasn't the case

Thanks, he's in his 80,s and also has a tumour in his bowels and also his liver so he's not going to have treatment but he's had a great life with family that all love him so not all bad. UTG

Browner used to be the man. Browns got a great powerful shot. Maybe not the finesse needed for penalty taker though I do like his free kicks and he's definitely the man to stand on the edge of the box for corners. I actually think we're going to either make the play offs or just miss out i can see us winning five or six of our last 7. How about Browner to get the winner with his right foot v Millwall to send us into the play offs.

All part of the rise of the rovers mythology.

Just saw the penalty and the keeper just stood still and looked like he just stuck a hand up to avoid a smash in the face! Any effort placed near either corner was a nailed on goal but unusual for any keeper to stand his ground like that.Psyched out James I reckon.

Needs to go back. His scoring record is non existent. Not good enough. Imagine if the snake went at the start of the season and james was his replacement as planned. Pretty scary really Luke James to score the only goal (and his first for Rovers) in the Wembley play off final - Gas Legend forever.
