Would you sign Luke James?
For me, it is a yes but as a squad player.
P.S I say as a squad player as I rate him but until he starts scoring then I can't justify him being our main striker.

Still short of goals. Don't think we can justify signing him unless he gets a couple before the end of the season

Pleasantly surprised at how many are agreeing with me. I heard him getting a lot of stick on the way out Saturday and on social media. He has had an awful lot of bad luck, I think Darrell will want to keep him if the price is right.

I think he could become a good player for us. Once he scores I can see him getting regular goals - I was gutted he missed the pen for that reason. I also think he needs a different service. Hitting the ball at him with his back to goal isn't working, he looks like he needs a clever through ball to run on to - like the one he fed Gaffers against Chesterfield.

Giving him the penalty was a mistake imo, not because he missed it, it was because you are expected to score a penalty so he was on a hiding to nothing. I don't see how scoring a pen would have gave him confidence to score every week.
He needs to score a goal from open play but sadly never really looks like doing this. He may go off to somewhere else and score regularly but he has now failed with us (so far), Hartlepool (2nd spell) Bradford and Peterborough. He is like a younger Derek O'Riordan, a shadow of his YouTube goal videos.

Bizarre and harsh comparison. I don't think I've ever seen a striker play so consistently well without scoring.

Interesting graph - what I can't really understand is the squad player bit. I don't think we sign any 'mature footballer' on what you interpret as a squad player (not a regular first team player)- we sign them with the believe that they can play regular first team football. We should have a full squad of players that can fit seemelessly into the team when any player is injured, off form, or not available for any reason. All players are in the squad to compete against each other (on a level playing field (excuse the pun) for the places available on a weekly basis. What incentive is there for any player to sign as a 'squad player' other than for a wage ticket - and we've had too many of those in the past. i think the question should of been "would you sign Luke James next season" the same question could be asked about Gaffney & Harrison - again squad players - they can't all be signed on that basis - they are either considered good enough or not.

I was only really comparing them as they scored a lot of goals for their first club but nothing at any other club since.
James has worked hard but doesn't get into goalscoring positions and doesn't seem to create his own chances. He is not a striker and he is not a winger, so i'm not sure what he offers us really.
Surely there will be better options out there in the summer?

I'd sign him as a squad player. If I was manager I'd be playing Montano more often and James would be his reserve because I just don't think James is a striker but he is quick and can pick a pass and is more of a wide forward. We need to bring in 2 strikers and a winger for next season and try to offload Harrison and Moore. Gafney I'd keep because he can do a job alongside a Taylor type forward but has struggled a bit since Taylor left. We've got the base of a good league 1 side if you include our loans and hopefully we can sign Lumley and Sweeny too, then we can really have a go at it. If we'd kept Taylor in the window we'd be top six now I'm sure of it because we do look much better defensively since Lumley Sweeny Partington etc joined.

If Luke James is availiable for free/next to nothing then I can't imagine too many better options to be honest. He's got the right attitude and I think he can improve with us.

The thing is quality League One players probably aren't going to come cheap. We are not in a position to have 20+ quality League One players because we can't afford that sort of wage bill. That's why I think you need a planned starting xi full of quality players, and some cheaper options as squad players that you hope can fill in and do a job. I voted for him to be signed as a squad player, based on the assumption that we'd get him on a free and be on relatively low wages. If he's anything but this, I wouldn't be signing him just like i wouldn't be paying a fee or big wages for anyone who was likely to sit on the bench or in the stands. UTG!

It will be annoying for them that they have to take a big loss on him, but I can't really see him being in high demand. When clubs are scouting for strikers, they tend to look at goalscoring records, and based on this, LJ would be a poor signing for any L1 and maybe L2 club. We have watched him all season so we know otherwise. I think Posh will just be relieved to get him off their wage bill if they've got no intention of playing him, chasing a transfer fee would be very optimistic from their point of view.

A lot of people on here are saying we should get rid of Harrison, at least he has actually been a goal threat this season.
I really don't know what has changed with James since he scored all those great goals for Hartlepool, shame really but he is still young so plenty of time for him personally to rediscover that, but can we afford to have a striker who doesn't score in the meantime?

Sinclair works just as hard and has scored more goals in the last 2 years.
Let's play him up front.
Trololol.

Offer them a tenner and a box of monster munch that should do the trick?

I'd rather have a striker who plays well every week but doesn't score enough than a striker who is inconsistent but scores now and again.
