Everyone associated with Bristol Rovers Football Club would like to thank almost all of the 4,069 supporters who travelled to support the team at The Ricoh Arena on Saturday.
This is the most number of fans we have taken away for a league game for many, many, years, and reflects well on the positivity surrounding the club at this moment in time.
However whilst the passionate support given to the team was second to none, unfortunately we have been advised that a very small minority of our supporters did not represent our great club as we would have liked.
Post-match there was, apparently, an unprovoked attack/assault on a 24 year old Coventry City fan on Judds Lane, near the road leading to Rowleys Green Lane and several taxis were waiting on the road as the incident happened.
The perpetrator, who was around 6’ tall and accompanied by a friend, was wearing a black jacket which had a Bristol Rovers logo on it.
Other fans leaving the ground had apparently been accosted by these two and the traffic attendants who were working around the traffic lights near the big roundabout outside the ground had spotted the taller man.
We do not want individuals like this associated with Bristol Rovers Football Club and we would ask if any of our fans witnessed the incident in question, or knows the name of either of those involved, to help trace the individuals involved.
Staff at The Ricoh Arena are scanning their excellent CCTV footage, but any assistance Bristol Rovers supporters are able to offer would be greatly appreciated and treated as confidential.
Witnesses can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or West Midlands Police on 101 and ask for that police service or contact Bristol Rovers on 0117 909 6648 option 9.
Thank you, in advance, for any assistance you can provide.

Unfortunately we do have some rather nasty idiots who call themselves supporters...why on earth do people do this type of thing. Hope the idiot is found, I am getting rather fed-up with our idiot minority who feel its right to hurt people just because they support another team.

I had to use the crossing and walk down the road where that incident took place to get back to the car.
Glad I didn't see anything because my friend and I had our two young daughters with us and it would have been very frightening for them. I'm sure it would put them off coming to football and that would be a shame as they both love matchday.

Innocent until proven guilty. Two sides to every story. We do not know if it was an unprovoked attack. If it was an unprovoked attack then he deserves everything he gets and if anybody saw the incident they should report it as we do not want this type of fan supporting our club.

I would add "if it was a provoked attack, lets get the indiduals from both sides identified and clear the clubs name". We do seem to be getting a reputation for isolated incidents at away games again, I personally would like to see it removed from our fanbase.

With so many Police and stewards around it's hard to believe the culprits weren't apprehended at the ground, given it looks like it just wasn't one isolated incident?

I agree about the whole 'innocent until proven guilty' thing, but it seems these two were hell bent on causing a problem
Other fans leaving the ground had apparently been accosted by these two and the traffic attendants who were working around the traffic lights near the big roundabout outside the ground had spotted the taller man.
Unfortunately as other have pointed out, football is just a cover for some. There were people still drinking downstairs half way through the first half. How have they gone to watch Rovers?

I walked over the footbridge after and there were a few Stone Island clad Coventry fans on the wind up. Not condoning the violence of course but I'm guessing that's what it was about

I was on a supporters coach and whilst waiting to leave there were about 20/30 Coventry fans trying it on but the police had it under control.
