There's seems to be a lot of doom and gloom on here after Last Saturday, but come on everyone we have had a fantastic season after back to back promotions did we really expect another? Let's just enjoy the last 6 games and look forward to next year now. It looks like we will be losing Coventry and Swindon (Ha money grabbing lady gardens) but gaining Plymouth and Portsmouth 4 fantastic games to look forward to there both home and away with full houses at the Mem. Dare I say it? We might even have a derby with the sh** yet (hopefully) to look forward to, Taylor at the Mem now the thought of that certainly gets the juices flowing! (Plastic snakes at the ready!) Training ground in place UWE hopefully good news in the summer? We have a fantastic manager & a good squad with a few permanent additions in the summer we can really push on next year. Chin up Gasheads we are still on the up UTG!

We have only a reasonable squad that probably have performed above themselves to achieve the present position. To be chasing Play Offs next season we need the acquisition of about 8-12 quality players to not only be regular team members but also to keep players that are in the team on their toes. These acquisitions would only put the squad up to 24 players!! The trouble is that two of our best players at the moment and who have made the biggest difference (Sweeney and Lumley) are not ours. Personally I feel we need the following
1. THE NEW GROUND.
2. The following squad
1.Joe Lumley or New First Choice Goalkeeper 2.New Second choice keeper
Release Puddy and Nildenhall
3.Leadbitter 4.Lockyer 5.Partington 6.Burn 7.Brown 8.New Centre back or Sweeney(very unlikely) 9.New Centre back to challenge 10.New Left back to challenge but not sure about Bob Harris as haven't seen enough of him.
Release James Clarke and probably no chance of getting either Sweeney or Clarke Salter
11.New Winger 12.Montano 13.New Winger 14.Bodin Release Moore,Broom and Gosling
Midfield 15.O Clarke 16.Lines 17.Sinclair 18.New CM 19.New CM
Release Mansell
Forwards 20.Gaffney 21.Harrison 22.New Forward 23.New Forward 24.New Forward
Release Easter, James, Lucas,
We will probably need a couple more loanees if the rules haven't changed as we had about 27 players at the start of this season.

From the midfield, keep Lines, Clarke, Sincs, Bodin. From the forwards keep no one. (I mean keep a few as fringe players, if you really need to, but we're not gonna kick on with any of them as our main (or even first change) strike force.

I'd keep Gaffers, I think he has a role still. I'm on the fence with Ellis.

Keep everyone we can (including loanees) bar Puddy, Mansell, Gosling, Lucas and Easter. Replace each one of those (including any loanees that leave) with a player worthy of a starting position = settled but improved squad.

The problem is that you need 26 or 27 players at the start of the season because of the stupid loan system rules that came in. It means clubs have to have an excess of players at the start of the season and really only does any favours for clubs with a lot of money.

Its interesting the number of posters that want to replace most of the team or bring 8-12 players in especially as there is no evidence of an increased playing budget. I reckon we would be better off keeping most of the squad that know each other so well, including sweeney/lumley if at all possible and adding 2 strikers to the mix. Remember we simply cant afford someone like john akinde or ollie watkins at exeter so we have to hope that whoever is manager at the start of the season can find some bargain gems that come off.

I go along with most of that and suggest that the NEW STADIUM is the 'lynch pin' for everything - without it I think DC will be off & quite rightly so and any new signings will we 'second rate'. The short/medium term future of the club will be looking pretty grim.
Regarding the list - Moore is contracted so we are stuck with him unless he wants to go. Harrison I would release for his own good and keep James if on a free and 1 year contract only. Gaffney I would probably release or max new 1 year contract. JCS I feel we could probably keep if we wanted to - but is he strong enough for what we are looking for at this level? Not sure about Hartley but if his contract is up I would release. Now with the 'Tin Hat' firmly on and all emotions aside I would probably release Lee Brown - I think he has had a mediocre season in all honesty and has not really stepped up.

For every Matty Taylor you have a Wall, Goldberg, Blissett, Cunnington and James. Hopefully we are due another decent striker although many of the best strikers in the past cost money (Lambert, Hayles, Roberts, Ellington etc)
Its no coincidence that the top 7 teams in this league have spent money on transfer fees and/or wages. If we can find free gems then that's all well and good but sometimes the required quality comes at a price.

Dosnt the ffp rules hold us back though? i havnt really read right through the rules but as i understand it we cannot generate enough income to compete with the likes of sheff utd, bolton and bradford on salary so we are as ever in the bargain bin.

There are ways around the FFP as creative owners have found out at other clubs

Give Lucas a little run from the bench and see if he can chip in with a few goals.
