I don't think anyone is having a go at Ellis for his celebration, just asking if there was a reason behind it. All the players ran to SY so it would appear that there was a reason. A bit like how all the players ran to DC when Hartley scored at Chesterfield and nobody really knew why at the time. As it turned out, there was a very good reason for it. UTG! It was implied in the first reply in this thread that there is a reason and that SY will reveal what that is soon enough so I've no idea why peterparker is getting so touchy about it. There might be a reason, there might not, but it is fairly unusual for the players to celebrate in the manner that they did so it's pretty obvious why people are speculating. I'm not touchy, just asking what's the fuss? why do people want/need/have to know. There seems to be a clamour to know anything and everything in the digital age
We scored, they celebrated. sometime it really can be that simple

I think you answered your own question there; people want to know anything and everything. Fair play if you're not bothered, but if it's a non-issue then what's wrong with people discussing it on here?

Maybe to say thanks for not subbing him after playing absolutely dog Rubbish for 75mins. Luke James would kill for being sh** for 75 minutes and scoring a goal.

I think the club need to review its goal celebration guidelines otherwise us fans are going to get confused. We can't have staff and players running out hugging each other willy nilly. A striker hugging our defensive coach after a goal is just ridiculous and should be reduced to a high five at best , players should save hugs for DC and fans.

Maybe Yates has shown Ellis how to hit a backpass to a team mate and this goal was Ellis' way of thanking him for it.

maybe, but why do people have to find an angle with everything? or are people upset that Ellis didn't rip his shirt off and jump in the Blackthorn end and think he is deliberately spiting them or something. The kid can't fecking winI don't think anyone is having a go at Ellis for his celebration, just asking if there was a reason behind it. My guess is that if Ellis had not been involved nobody would have given it second though.

There will have been a personal reason as it wasn't just Ellis who ran to Yates. That's it then, Steve Yates is off at the end of the season. See page 5 of the 'DC's interview tonight' thread, I said a member of the back room team was off. Maybe he stuck up for Ellis against DC? Foolish if so!

A couple things: 1) what was the celebration about? Seemed very important to Elis to celebrate- I think with the dugout... does anyone know why this was? 2) Fairplay to him. I struggle with Elis. I thought he was a having a mare on Monday- but he stuck at it, worked himself into the game, got a goal and stopped a shot that likely could have been destined for the net. This season he has shown greater maturity. He's now works hard for the team and has a chance of making it. Finally, if Elis is to kick on- I think he should 'charge' to the penalty box more often. He's bringing people into play, and then semi following the ball to make an angle for the return. Hard to criticise that. More and more he's winning the ball with ease and it's good that he wants to help team mates. But... we need someone in the box- after Hartley, he's possibly our best headerer of a football. If he can keep doing the first bit but then seek the box he'll quickly find himself scoring.

Maybe SY had spotted some technical flaw with the Oldham backline which Ellis exploited...

Maybe SY had spotted some technical flaw with the Oldham backline which Ellis exploited... Or maybe he was taking the mickey out of him sbout not scoring for a while perhaps Yatesy was saying that he was more prolific lol Who knows it doesn't really matter, as fans we can't expect to know the ins and outs of everything that's going on. One things for sure we've got a great team spirit and most of our players give everything most of the time. That's the main thing.
