If we could only retain one of the two players I'd retain Rory. For me, his general contribution to the team is much more significant than Ellis'.
Have just reviewed the stats and Rory has 9 goals to Ellis' 9 but all of Ellis' are in the league whilst 3 of Rory's are against lower level opposition in the FA cup.
Both seem to have picked up of late and seem to be playing for a contract, with Rory bagging 4 in his last 6 appearances. If he'd played like that across a full 46 game season he'd be netting around 30 in a season.

Easy choice.

Ellis if I had to choose. Both strikers have been in and out this season with their form but he has more ability and is more likely to change a match. Rory is a tidy player though, and I would personally keep them both.

I like Ellis but he's just too inconsistent. Gaffney offers a lot more to the team. His link up play is great and we just need another striker to play off of Gaffney to get him at his best.

Let them have a 'hunger games' type contest on Horfield common, survivor gets the contract.

Some figures for comparison, taken from my striker stats thread:
Gas career stats:
League Ellis: 62 starts (inc play-offs), 80 sub appearances, 6843 mins played, 33 goals scored @ 196 mins per goal
Gaffers: 45 starts, 13 sub appearances, 3810 mins played, 13 goals scored @ 293 mins per goal
League and Cup Ellis: 71 starts, 87 sub appearances, 7326 mins played, 38 goals scored @ 193 mins per goal
Gaffers: 49 starts, 16 sub appearances, 4323 mins played, 16 goals @ 270 mins per goal
This season
League
Ellis: 24 starts, 12 sub appearances, 2157 mins played, 8 goals @ 270 mins per goal
Gaffers: 22 starts, 12 sub appearances, 1917 mins played, 6 goals @ 320 mins per goal
League and Cup
Ellis: 27 starts, 14 sub appearances, 2446 mins played, 9 goals @ 272 mins per goal
Gaffers: 26 starts, 15 sub appearances, 2423 mins, 9 goals @ 269 mins per goal
Gas careers since return to Football League (2015/16 -)
League
Ellis: 34 starts, 33 sub appearances, 3369 mins played, 15 goals @ 225 mins per goal
Gaffers: 45 starts, 13 sub appearances, 3810 mins played, 13 goals @ 293 mins per goal
League and Cup
Ellis: 39 starts, 36 sub appearances, 3838 mins played, 17 goals @ 226 mins per goal
Gaffers: 49 starts, 16 sub appearances, 4323 mins played, 16 goals @ 270 mins per goal
For a second forward playing alongside your side's main goal scorer, which they have been throughout their last couple of seasons, these are not bad stats at all. I see no reason why we shouldn't keep both on to share the old fashioned number 9 role and try to recruit a couple of strikers to play alongside them next year.

They should all potentially be first XI players and I think only Gaffney is that out of the two. If you could mould the two into one player you would have some player on your hands, but out of the 2 Gaffers wins hands down.

Very interesting stats...both have better records than many thought. Keep both as we'd struggle to get better squad strikers.

Does anyone have the assist stats?? Being a better striker isn't always about slamming the ball in the back of the net. Its also knowing when someone else has a better shot.

I don't have the stats but tbf, unless you're passing it to Bodin and he scores then you're quite unlikely to pick up an assist as a striker in our team!

I found a table of League 1 assists. Lines is our only player to feature with 7. The table ends with 4 so no-one else has contributed much.
Last season Lines was also top with 8, though Lee Brown was snapping at his heels on 7. No other player on the list and it stopped at 5.
Our own website says differently though, and I'd be tempted to put more credence in this:
League only: Lines 8 Leadbitter 4 Brown 4 Bodin 4 Harrison 4 Gaffney 3 James 2 Montano 2 Hartley 2
League and Cup: Lines 12 Leadbitter 5 Brown 4 Bodin 4 Harrison 4 James 4 Montano 3 Gaffney 3 Hartley 2
Some say that Lines is over-rated, strolls through games etc, but his value here is plain to see. No other central midfielders have any assists at all to their name this season. This highlights the fact that we need another creative midfielder even if only as back up for Lines, though I also think Ollie will improve this aspect of his game.
Ellis ahead of Gaffers in goals per minute and assists, yet 4/5 of voters would offer Gaffers a contract ahead of him. I wonder if the result might have been a bit different if it didn't take place directly after a game when Ellis missed a a penalty and Gaffers got a brace!

It won't come to this. Both will still be with us next season - a good thing in my view.

Other than that treasonous poison what left us, Rory has been our best striker. He always looked a handful when he was being written off as conference standard as usual when he didn't score much at the start. Ellis is the kind of guy you want on when you need a goal, late on. I share others frustrations with Ellis, so annoyed at watching him not challenge, polar opposite to Rory.
