Portugal trip is from Mon 17th to Fri 21st. Ah, I see. That Taunton game must be for the youth team then. Thanks for clearing that up.

Too many games again, they'll be knacked before the season starts. Played too many last year and I think we are making the same mistake again. 8 games would give each players 3 or 4 games which is plenty in my view to play 12 pre-season games is asking for trouble. Oh? Is that why we've underachieved this year then? Some of the friendlies are made up of youth and trialists, so don't be worried that the first 11 will be tired. We are a professional footy club with full time development coaches ya know! Alot of those local games also breed floating support for us and gives us a chance to see local talent. How dare you be so positive; it's well known in these here parts that DC knows feck all about preparing a squad I will fit at least a couple of those games in

haha think I'll leave it to DC and his entourage of sports scientist(s) Well laugh if you will but I think most coaches would say playing 6 or 7 games in a 3 week period particularly when building up fitness carries risk...I will say no more. These look like the 1st team squad games to me, so it's just 5 games or two a week which is what they'll be playing come August anyway. The fixtures seem a lot more balanced to me this pre-season, with just the one game against higher opposition so far. Saturday 15th July - GLOUCESTER CITY - 15:00 -A Wednesday 19th July - PORTUGAL TOUR GAME - TBC - A Saturday 22nd July - FOREST GREEN ROVERS - 15:00 - A Tuesday 25th July- YEOVIL TOWN - 19:45 - H Saturday 29th July - WEST BROMWICH ALBION - 15:00 - H

I normally hate pre-season, always too excited for the real deal to start!
Saying that I'll probably go to the WBA & Mangoes games.

Good set of pre-season games. Various levels of football and the away matches will help the "home" sides earn some income during the summer. Having good links and helping out localish clubs is all part of being in the football family and helping some money filter down. After all WBA probably need a few quid to get them by....

Still have to play 12 games which suggest some players will play 6 or 7 games in pre-season - unless we are planned on a huge squad this seems a barmey itinerary to me. 3 or 4 games for each player pre-season is more than adequate. you obviously know so much more than DC he's bloody useless isn't he. Maybe they should sack him and get you in, have you got a club at the moment ? DC is a good manager, I don't think he should be sacked, no I'm not applying for the job and no I'm retired. Thanks for being so friendly and assume you'll give me a reference should I decide to apply if a vacancy turns-up unexpected.

Some attractive sides there, said nobody, ever.. Are you kidding? Three words, Melksham Town away. Exactly what I was thinking. 10 minute drive. they have a new ground. Forge new Wiltshire links (Salisbury as well). Cut into Swindle & Soton territory.

Are you kidding? Three words, Melksham Town away. At least that's a new fixture as we have never played them before, so some, including me, will be happy to attend for the first time.
Exactly. New ground, new oppo - would get some goodwill. and start encroaching on Swindle territory whilst they are shooting themselves in the foot. People may be surprised how many gasheads are in Wiltshire, including me. Loads of young kids need a decent team to support and Swindle certainly aren't one.

OK maybe you are right but Liverpool who have over 60 professionals on their books only played 9 pre-season games last year. Guess we will see in the summer. Agree it's good to use local games to generate good-will.

There's also that other Bristol club which we never seem to play pre-season. Maybe we can't because it wouldn't constitute being a friendly! 😉

To give the Memorial Stadium pitch the best possible chance of being in prime condition for the start of the new season, we will now be playing our pre-season game against Yeovil Town at Huish Park. The match will still take place on Tuesday 25th July at 7.45pm Read more: www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2017/june/yeovilpreseason/
