We have to be realistic. Yes, we might well go for it a bit more in the transfer market next season but it can't be at the expense of growing the club responsibly. If we finish 10th again next season it will be far from a disaster and I hope that fans won't get frustrated. Problem is finishing 10th probably means we have a bad run of results at some point in the season, at which point fans will get frustrated when DC is making it clear he's aiming for a top 6th spot, assuming DC's not head hunted.

Im a bit pessimistic too and a glass half empty kind of guy, so I'm going for Rovers to win the league with 100+ points. 12 points clear at Christmas. Rich is that you? It's not about where we will finish. I much prefer setting targets to aim at. As a minimum I expect a realistic target of playoffs. We I'm sure can and expect better.

Even if DC gets his budget and signs the 10 or 11 players he talks about there is no guarantee the team will gel immediately or that all signings will be up to scratch. It's a tough league and I would say I expect a comfortable mid-table outcome is most likely but until we know the signings it difficult to say. If DC gets the signings wrong then even mid-table might be a struggle. That defense we saw on Saturday needs sorting out for sure. Yes but, we are looking at probably only 4 or 5 of those 10 being in the starting line-up ? GK, CB, LM and CF ? and possibly CM ? and the GK and CB could well be Lumley and Sweeney.

I agree Bags top 10 will be fine as long as we have the UWE in the bag by then? Then push on the year after knowing the stadium is getting close.

I just hope DC buys in to this evolution thing.

This chart displays why we are mostly miserable. Paul Buckle had it nailed.

DC hasn't got any experience spending money which rightly or wrongly worries me the most. If he's given money of course. Looking forward to the summer rebuild but at the same time really worried about the cliched 2nd season syndrome. We really are due a sh** patch. Having Barron and Dubey as performance analysts might negate the concern, we used to sign players based on scouts and managers opinions, now they have video, data and stats to back up any signings on top of a talented manager and scouts. I think its less individual recruitment that is the concern for me, im more concerned about getting players who gel well into a cohesive unit in def, mid and attack. I feel we are lacking in defense without Sweeney, have no GK and need at minimum 2 strikers who can score 30 goals between them

I think what we should do is stop this thread the day before the transfer window opens, or when we make our first signing. Then, the day before our first game, start a thread exactly the same and have a look at the difference?
