Colton hall is far from a sh** tip, when did you last go there!? As for renaming, I'm unsure, but am sad it will be named for a sponsor and that the institution needs that money to survive, Compared to some of the Venues i've been in, its a sh** tip Cardiff Motor point is the closest i would guess, great acoustics and easy to get to. "War of the Worlds" was "out of this world" experience for me

Will you still call it Colston Hall after the revisionists have airbrushed 150 of history? I know I will. Will always call it Colston Hall and for the life of me i cannot understand we they want to rename it You cannot change History and you can't air brush it out either Shame on the people who decided this, they will lose out in the end because i for one will not go there again. Its a sh** tip and there are far better venues not far away to go watch Take That and Steps... So the majority of the paying public don't want the name changed, yet the owners have decided to ignore popular demand and proceed with the change anyway? Surely they know best and we should get behind the decision Henbury? You may as well go there again as we can't make a difference.

The pity of all this angst with the Colston Hall is that many great names in the music industry have appeared there with no problem - Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong. Etc Etc and apparently some BIG STAR? from a virtually unknown band won't go there so the members of the Trust (who come from other towns) change the name so he will go there! Bizarre

As for renaming, I'm unsure, but am sad it will be named for a sponsor and that the institution needs that money to survive, Last time I went there - probably 1964 - Chuck Berry - Gene Vincent and a fairly new group called The Animals. Still got the programme somewhere I think. Should definitely keep the name as it is - they'll be renaming The Codrington Arms next - if they haven't already and the village of Codrington - perhaps I shouldn't of mentioned it!!

I can't see the ALQ's would have ever wanted to tarnish their investment banking reputations shafting us, they are hardly Indian chicken farmers? As far as NH getting desperate perhaps he was or perhaps he sold up to the buyers who were the best for the club. I genuinely believe Higgs sold to who were the best for the club, his tenure at the club was awful but for all his short comings he was a gashead. From the little I do know, he was cornered come the end. No way out. If true then up to 2 hours before announcement of new owners, NH was still going to be a director but I do believe the bit where Geoff D wouldn't sell his allotted shares unless ALL old board did the same. I touched on this with a few that were then ITK and it certainly tallies with them. If you look at NH's body language when introducing the AQ's then his body language is that of a worried puppy. Regardless of my venom toward his tenure, it must be tough to know just how badly you've done. We then have the new owners trying to undo all the damage done in the contract giveaways, just to get UWE built. It was Wael saying that running a football club was much more difficult than he envisaged that convinced me much damage had been done. In my opinion they thought that the stadium was basically just awaiting funding and that the deal benefitted us. I do believe that Nick still wanted to be a part of the top table. I found it particularly sad that he made the ill timed comments to his mate Jim, on the day we got promoted, saying it was his team that did the business. There is something fundamentally sad when someone can't just join in the celebration but feels a need to point score. Surely any true gashead would just enjoy the moment sans the scrutiny and justification ? Its still an exciting time for us all and one we all need to back instead of the forensic foraging into Dwane sports. The AQ family may be bankers but I don't think anyone actually profits now, not in running a successful club. What other sphere of business would allow you to continue by just continually servicing a 700 million debt a la Man U ? It's a crazy world is football. I really am not keen on the way the US does sport but the way the American football divide the monies between the teams is, I believe, a very good way of doing business

My guess is that if you had family who were slaves then you'd feel very different. You don't have to go back fat to see how Blacks were treated in the 50's and how the bus conductor started a wave of protest. Those who came here, invited by our cluntry, on the windrush, were also treated appallingly. Colston was no big philanthropist and in reality only gave a tiny fraction to the area. If you want to read about a true philanthropist then look up Handel Cossham and you'll see a huge difference. I guess it all depends on how each individual views it but it only took a petition of 2700 to effect this change but most peopld will take time to post on twofacedbook rather than actually DO something. It really is a case of bolting the stable door once the horse has ran out. I believe it will be named after the guy who gave Bristol many many Millions and who died not that long ago. Forgive me as I've forgotten his name but I believe it may be Jones ? I would have to web search

Wasn't Cabot Circus originally going to be called Merchants Quarter until the people of St Paul's protested?
