Watched the lad Lucas play well tonight for 45 minutes and score 2 for Weston-super-Mare in a crazy game against a strong Forest Green side that finished 6-6!!! Ben Swallow also played well for Weston and scored one and assisted one for Lucas. Best player on the pitch was a young winger loanee from Brentford Theo Archibald (scored 2) playing for FGR, closely followed by Dale Grubb who scored one. Dodge got a hat-trick (2 pens). Just thought I'd update you on the progress of a couple of former players who played well. I think if Lucas performs like he did tonight he could score quite a few in the National League South this season. When I watched FGR vs Yeovil last season, their defence was absolutely shocking...doesn't sound like anything has changed! I'm surprised they kept Copper on to be honest. I would have got rid of him a while ago. They were an absolute shambles at the back and Weston looked like scoring every time they attacked, well they basically did!

I see Luke James has left Forest Green by mutual consent to rejoin Hartlepool. I reckon he will do well there. You could be right and I certainly hope so. You couldn't fault his effort here, but it just didn't work out for him. He looked a very good player for Hartlepool and maybe the move home can get his career back on track. I think Hartlepool have made some very good signings and will do ok this season. Liam Noble and Andrew Davies could probably do a job in League One (definitely League Two) and I'm excited to see how Niko Muir does for them after he scored 40 last season for Hendon. Didn't realise Noble had gone to Hartlepool. Great signing for them. As you say, He is a league 2 player minimum. In fact when I watched FGR last season,He was their best player.

I was thinking exactly the same when I read that about Luke James, maybe a drop down to that level and familiar surroundings will kick start his career, maybe that will be his level. Either way I wish him well, he never lacked for effort, just maybe confidence and stature?

At National League level he has a record of 7 goals and 21 assists from 40 appearances which is outstanding. His record in League's One and Two is pretty decent too. He's from the area and at 27 he should be reaching his peak, so should really be a fantastic signing for them.

Whilst Jamie Lucas and Ben Swallow have arrived at WSM Danny Greenslade has moved to Hereford. They Pay More I think you also watch Frome Town, don't you? I just thought I'd let you know they are playing Weston-super-Mare this Friday 20th July and kick off will be 7:45pm on the 3G pitch behind the Woodspring Stadium with free entrance.

I could be wrong but they dont pay is anything as we didnt offer a contract. We released him. If we had offered a new deal and he joined them instead of accepting a new deal, we would then be due money in form of a compensation payment.

Good player at National League South level. Maybe I'm in the wrong job then. Other than Rory Williams at Havant & Waterlooville and maybe Connor Riley-Lowe at Truro, I can't think of many better at that level, unless you can name them?

Can't say naming left backs of teams in the National League South of which i have no association with is hobby of mine. Saying that, I watch Rovers about 30 times a season and don't study the left backs of teams we're playing against either. I only care about us and who is and who isn't good enough for us. Greenslade was far from good enough.

I hope Hartlepool do well this season. After a disastrous two seasons they appear to have made some decent signings for their level. Muir seemed the type of player that I thought we might take a chance on so good luck to them. Noble was in a kind of tug of war between FGR and Notts Co before he ended up at County but it obviously didn’t work out there and he will be a very good player in the National League. With the increase in chances to go up via the play offs now I would hope they could make the top seven at least if not higher. What’s happened to Hartlepool is enough to make any Rovers fan shudder and say “thank god we avoided that!” UTG!

That said he turned down a deal to stay with Weston So Hereford will have to sort out a compo fee with Weston. For some reason I thought you meant Hereford will have to pay us a compo fee, hence my reply. Sorry I miss understood you.
