Mods feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place
After the great cryptic thread thought I'd post this little teaser
Johnny is in a race 1st place is £100,000 and a large cup Johnny wins the race outright but gets nothing !
Why??
(no he hasn't been disqualified and he's won the race fair and square)

We give these types of questions to interviewees where I work. Here's one of my favourites...
You have two ropes and a lighter. Each rope has the following properties:
If you light one end of the rope, it will take one hour to burn to the other end. The density varies throughout the length of the ropes such that it burns at different rates. So, the first half could burn in 1 minute, the second half in 59 minutes - you just don't know.
You need to time 45mins by burning the ropes - how?

When that rope is half it's original length (i.e. After 15 minutes) you light both ends of rope two, that will burn to the middle in 30 minutes also. 15 + 30 = 45. How'd I do?

When rope B is completely burnt (+15 mins) then 45 mins have elapsed since step 1.

If you're going to sit there and watch some rope burn, then I don't want to employ you, you friggin waste of space! That would be my answer.
or...
If any employer asked me such a stupid question, then I wouldn't want to work for them!

"Logical Thinking".... "Mods feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place"
I'm not even sure we have a "move to different forum" option in the moderation section?
