If you believe that a rent payment for an office in London can be shown as an asset then you've shown the shallow depth of your knowledge. It will either be a charge to the p&l or put, hopefully, against the intercompany account and we know clearly from the last set of accounts that that isn't an asset for the football club. Money owed to the football club by Dwayne for use of the office could be an asset of the football club. Would reduce the liability of the football club to Dwane sports you mean. It will be a strange setup if we have intercompany accounts for liabilities and a separate one for assets

a) if the cost is £250k then there is £250k that could be spent on employing better players, which doesn't effect profits (ha, ha, ha) or losses, but does effect the primary purpose of the businedd b) sadly in defending the Al Qs as always you still fail to understand that Dwane Sports owning circa 92% of Bristol Rovers does not mean Dwane Sports = Bristol Rovers or more importantly vice versa. Not seen any evidence that if the club is paying on behalf Dwane Sports that this is then being taken off of the debt owed not defending anything. I don't know the ins and outs of how Dwane Sports are operating, but I can give a real world example as I have early in thread as to how things MAY be accounted for and why they happen.
The company I work for is owned by a majority consortium. There are still minor share holders, but the consortium is to all intents and purposes the company ala Dwane Sports. What they say goes
I don't believe I said if Bristol Rovers are paying that it is being taken off the debt but why would it? Payments made by the football club may well show as an asset of the football club, but will be a liability to the parent company 1883 ltd and 1883 ltd is underwritten by Dwane. If 1883 are paying the bills then it is an expense of the company. How, what, when and why any debts are consolidated down the line will depend on what is agreed and or decided by Dwane or agreed with any new ownership.
In the mean time Dwane deem a UK office in London as a worthy expense, whatever any of us may think

All overcome very easily in London, its amazing but some of the hotels up there even open 24 hours a day. As to importance well its twofold; a) the club is losing money so all costs should be examined to ensure the maximum amount of resources is available in the playing budget b) the suspicion that the offices are more for Dwane Sports (which despite confusion is not Bristol Rovers) use and/or being used by the family for other business matters ie the football club is subsidising other areas of the Al Qs business a) saving £250k or whatever on an office will not help the playing budget unless we are expecting a cash injection
b) As far as I am aware Dwane Sports was set up for the sole purpose of buying/owning BRFC. Unless I am mistaken there are no other projects they are involved in other than ancillary companies (under the Dwane Group) which link into the purpose of owning BRFC. So what other business would take place there? I thought it was established AJIB have their own office of sorts in London.
If any other business is undertaken there, then as explained it makes sense that a UK company is paying UK transactions and In which case all costs are still under written by Dawne/The Al-Qadi family.
If new owners have to pay back Dwane for the use of the offices for the past 3 years, well that is ultimately down to the terms of sale and what is agreed will be paid back and/or written off. Whether it is worth what has been paid for the office or not is subjective (and I am not saying either way) but Dwane deemed it a worthy expense. I doubt The Al-Qadi's bought a football club and the greater expense that comes with it for the front of having an office to do other things in

And it's literally impossible to find a suitable restaurant / hotel / serviced office in London to hold a meeting at. Glad we've found a cost efficient solution to that problem No I’m not saying that but when agreeing commercial deals you have numerous members of both parties to negotiate and sign, you have lawyers and you have the need for confidentiality and independence. Quite often negotiations can start early and finish late and go on for days .... I was involved in one we were trying to get over the line that started at 8.30am one day and ran over to 4am the next day as we both wanted it done but we’re ironing out the finer detail and commercials down to percentages and pence ..... anything is possible but likewise just because it is doesn’t mean that it’s right and professional? Why is the London office such a big issue in the grand scheme of things? It might be me but I just don’t get it as there are advantages to having it from accounting purposes too? All overcome very easily in London, its amazing but some of the hotels up there even open 24 hours a day. Someone please fill me in as to why we have a London office and since when? Literally none the wiser. Because despite the doubters who think it’s a waste, a significant amount of business and commercial activity is still undertaken in London. Also with owners who have banking backgrounds and fly frequently between Jordan and UK it’s convenient for them and easier for them to fly from Jordan to London and for others in The UK to go to London to meet them? If we are becoming more commercial and currently seeking Financial Investment, a London office is essential.... And it's literally impossible to find a suitable restaurant / hotel / serviced office in London to hold a meeting at. Glad we've found a cost efficient solution to that problem

I was surprised and disappointed we didn't look at the keeper position in the summer. We have two average keepers and what we should have is 1 quality one and 1 rubbish one for emergencies. I would hope DC is looking to bring in Lumley and ship Slocombe and Smith out on loan as neither seem good enough if we want to trouble the top 6. In fact goal keeper is the only position I am happy about using the loan market for as we have a decent recent history of getting good up and coming players: Lumley, Logan, Etheridge etc. Payne was a good signing, if we make efforts to improve the goalkeeper I'll start to believe we are serious about competing this season. I think you may have more missed a few god awful loan keepers between Logan/Etheridge and Lumley

If I were a decent striker, and BRFC tried to sign me, I'd jump at the chance. We have made some really exciting signings so far in this transfer window, and are going to create loads of chances for our forwards. Can't help but think that when strikers are considering their next move that they base it on how many chances will be created for them. I think the only logic applied is how much I'm going to get paid and will I get game time. Though the second criteria is rather ignored once you get championship or premiership £s

Again CGH I don’t disagree. I don’t know enough about the ins and outs of how Posh do it but I think they sign more players on 3 year contracts than we do and then at the end of two years if they won’t sign an extension, if the club want them to, they are transfer listed and they get whatever they can for them. But even they are finding it hard to shift Maddison and Marriott for the prices they want so will have to come donwn if they want to sell and get rid. The players don’t seem to be able to run down their contracts as you say. It is different but tbf to Rovers we were either non league or fresh out of it for MT and BB contracts and few teams in non league have players on 3 year contracts. With hindsight it could have been better for Rovers but my original point was with both players I don’t see that Rovers could have done anything different. You seem to be saying that we could have done better by offering longer contracts but that was never going to happen when MT signed his contract in 2014 and BB in Dec 2015 (?) and we probably know why. Now it might be different and perhaps with all this “undisclosed” stuff we are doing things a bit differently but even then the agents will know and share it with everyone anyway. UTG! Well it's up to our owners to improve how we do business but I think we can establish that there are things they could learn from Peterborough. We can't change the past but we should improve the future and a way to help doing that is to understand how other competitors operate and then take the good and avoid the bad. It's not essentially disagreeing whether you or me understand how they operate or whether a different approach in the past would've yielded better returns, but disagreeing with your original assertion that our owners couldn't learn from DM and posh

But even they are finding it hard to shift Maddison and Marriott for the prices they want so will have to come donwn if they want to sell and get rid. Maddison has a £2.5m release clause, so Peterborough are in a strong position with him. Marriott will join Derby within the next week or so for around £6mil, so good business from them. So there really is something we could learn from posh then

Not sure what the Al qadis could learn from him? How to make more money when you sell you're best players perhaps? I'm sure DM hasn't gone cap in hand to his nearest rivals asking for a gentlemans agreement not to sign each others players. Whilst I think the bloke is a bit of a cock, and I certainly wouldn't want the managers he signs, he does quite clearly make sure that transfers happen to suit Peterborough which is hardly representative of our recent transfer dealings. On top of that he has delivered a few short stints in the championship. Those that succeed in business usually learn and take a little bit from everyone they meet. Those that fail usually believe they know everything and are dismissive of anyone they dislike. Fair enough your opinion. Regarding the Taylor and Bodin situation, I’m not sure how those two situations could have been avoided. If anyone has an idea how to then it would be good to know. We got £300k for Taylor when we could have got nothing. I reckon that’s very good business but I guess others have different opinions. No idea how much Bodin went for but he wasn’t going to sign a new contract so whatever it was was more than we would have got this Summer. We could have offered 3-year contracts at the beginning perhaps but we know from the past where that can lead and at the time B.B. was a hospital case with injuries. I agree with much of your second and third paras, of course everyone can learn something it’s just that the guy only said what he wanted you to hear and much of what he says and does is all about self-promotion and as I’ve said before if he told me today was Wednesday I’d check the calendar first. The AlQadis inherited the contracts of both, perhaps contracts offered now are different and are written to avoid those situations. But in the end we don’t know do we and neither should we. Different views eh? UTG! Well glad we agree in part. Do you believe DM would've got only a combined fee of circa £800k if Taylor and Bodin had been Peterborough players? They are doing something different to us regarding contracts whether that is longer contracts or conditional contracts with an extension clause in favour of the club. In short whatever they are doing they appear not to be allowing players to run down their contracts. So yes I believe the Taylor / Bodin situation could've been better for rovers. However once Taylor was out of contract we did do well to get him back under contract however favourable that was for him. As to DM and Peterborough they seem to have a consistent policy in speculating to accumulate with young lower league talent.

He’s someone else’s chairman and thankfully not ours. He may be open and refreshing when he’s sat on a beach holding forth but is he being honest? I don’t know and because he’s nothing to do with BRFC I don’t really care. But I am glad we don’t have him or his manager anywhere near us. For all his self promotion, manic transfer approach and regular pontificating on Sky he’s finished a few places above us over the last few seasons. I’m not sure what the AlQadis could learn from him. Yes, a bit better communication would be good but every time they have communicated at length they have got a fair bit of criticism. Blimey, Steve Hamer came out and said about working to get a replacement for Ellis in today and has received a fair bit of criticism over his use of words. Laughable! Bloke can’t win. Our owners have got on and done stuff, I’ve listed it in the past and to add to it this close season they have got some very good players into the club. Upson, Matthews, THD, Reilly, Rodman all appear to be an improvement on what has gone (of course until the season starts in earnest then we won’t be sure but they “appear” to be ok). The improvement to the Mem, looking to improve income streams with the new stands is all concrete stuff. Much rather have owners who do stuff and I’ve said it before but these owners have done exactly what they said they would do through evolution. I know that there are other different opinions as there always are and many will not agree but it’s a Forum and that makes the Forum go round and round and round and...... 4th August can’t come soon enough! UTG! Not sure what the Al qadis could learn from him? How to make more money when you sell you're best players perhaps? But giving him a contract with the right of automatic renewal in the clubs favour, in turn for increased wages, wouldn't have caused any uproar. How do we know this wasn't offered? I don't and you don't. I was only offering an alternative to a 3 year contract that you obviously couldn't see

His value as an asset should have been recognised much earlier while we were in the conference. Imagine the uproar if we handed out a three-year deal to someone who just got released by Forest Green in the Conference! But giving him a contract with the right of automatic renewal in the clubs favour, in turn for increased wages, wouldn't have caused any uproar.

Not sure of his current situation but as a short term signing what about Morrison from Millwall? I dont know if we can afford to have short term signings if we intend to do well from the first kick. ill be a little disappointed if we dont have at least one striker through the door before Peterbrough. There has been list or names of players we could go after on this thread alone. Short term I was thinking a season or two. We seem to be hung up on suggesting younger players who could be sold on later for a profit. Of course we could end up with another Nicholls.

I'll chuck a couple of names in the hat: Scott Wilson - scored 14 goals for Macclesfield last season, 25 years old, just signed a new 2 year contract in the summer. Came up through shithead academy and had a record of over 1 in 2 for WSM a couple of seasons ago. Conor Chaplin - Promising player who's progress has been hampered by the arrival of Brett Pitman last season at Pompey. Very different player to Ellis but potential to imrprove. Never seen Scott play so not sure if he's what we need. But I can say for a fact he is looking for a move back to the Bristol area for personnel reasons.

The open day is sponsored by Bristol Energy, the council backed green energy supplier. Could they be our new shirt sponsor too ? From recollection they were also an 1883 draw entrant Bloody hell and they'll be connected to the new arena. It's all clear now it's Bristol City Council who'll be building are new all singing ground. Great news tell your grand kids to tell their grand kids all about it so they don't miss the ceremonial opening of our new ground
