Worry yes. Just not a fan of panic yet. Shame Ellis left pretty late into pre-season. Must have f'ed a few plans up. We always lose to posh & Stanley so who cares. 😂. Joke... I'm a fan of Panic. Reckon he could tear this league up. He just needs to get his confidence up. Get a [panic] room 😉😯

I was just think the same as you 2 lol. When I seen Barton was appointed, I was very sceptical about the appointment. But they have a very strong squad. They probably have about 6 or 7 strikers that would get ahead of any of ours lmao Enough is enough. I've been ignoring it for too long now, hoping someone else would step up and do it. But no one has. It's "saw" not "seen". You keep doing it in your otherwise well-worded posts. I seen him - wrong I saw him - right. Had to say it. Great that your forum name is so apt. I could almost hear your jaw drop. 😁😜

I'm not saying we should wait too long but loans are allowed until 31st August. And sercs, Rodman, Bennett all capable of serious goal tallies. That panic button isn't being pressed yet. We are 3 days from our first league match. When is it ok to worry about it? Worry yes. Just not a fan of panic yet. Shame Ellis left pretty late into pre-season. Must have f'ed a few plans up. Going into the last few days with one untried striker and Nichols, I'd say we are nailed on for relegation. We need at least 2 in the door pdq. I'm not saying we should wait too long but loans are allowed until 31st August. And sercs, Rodman, Bennett all capable of serious goal tallies. That panic button isn't being pressed yet.

They couldn't tell a zebra from a donkey.
Ok, being serious, talk of relegation is silly. Some random bloke on twitter had us as 23rd (with his team, Southend in the automatic promo slots of course).
Yes we could (any team could) but the evidence to put us in bottom 4 is just not there. We've made some excellent signings & had 2 stable seasons.
I'd be far more concerned if I was a Walsall, Rochdale, Shrewsbury fan.

We can slate him because he is living proof that money can't buy class. His comments about "No-one will speak of Rovers" and the way the unveiling of Taylor was handled (amongst other things) do City no credit whatsoever. I look past the crap the managers come out with but as the figurehead of the club he should behave with a bit of maturity. Don’t bite gas365, Remember 1982 when The Ashton gate eight tore up contracts to save this pot of sh*t there lucky to be around. And one of them was Charlie Aitken!

DC likes to use the week to prepare his team for the game. There was a situation last season where Harrison was away with the Welsh u-23's (or something). He arrived back on the Thursday, and didn't feature in the Saturday game as DC had no time to work with him before the game. It's the way DC works. Given the choice I'd take a No 9 who only met the players during the pre-match warm up at Peterborough over Nichols!! If we don't start with a new No 9 on Saturday I can see us conceding a few as Harrison's defensive duties on corners etc will be missed as much, perhaps even more, as his ability at the other end of the pitch. His defensive headers were immense last season. Trouble is you can't be at both ends of the pitch at the same time. Which sadly explains some of our problems up top, including the fast break away. There was a reason why Steve Yates never scored a goal for rovers... Because he was always left as last man back, to use his pace.

Yes, but reading the rest of the article makes you think he wants to stay and fight. Also wants champ football. Even if we got him it would be a risk as he's not getting what he really wants and is miles from home.

So much for FFP, I'm sure all of this is 'legal' in the eyes of the authorities but it sounds like something needs to be done for the good of football, at every level wages should be capped at a percentage of gate income or something similar. A good few years back when the english ice hockey "Superleague" was introduced it came with a salary cap. To get the best Canadian and Russian talent in the wives and partners were employed as secretaries and cleaners on big money paid for by the ice rinks and not the club. It quickly became one of the best leagues in Europe for all of 3 seasons when about every club and rink went bankrupt. There are ways around FFP if you are willing to loophole I suppose. Happens a lot in non-lge. 'employed' to do something at the club and over paid / basically a job that doesn't exist. Brown envelopes still happen all the time as well.

If all he says is true then those figures are crazy. No way is Doidge or Stockley worth that nor Bogle worth £10k. B***** me the football world is a crazy place. With only a few strikers at the moment it’s probably not the right time to say this but I’m glad that Rovers aren’t going to pay silly money or wages to destroy the squad ethos. Loans sound a bit more hopeful again if true. But if all this is so go to the lower leagues and get some younger, hungry players who to quote DC (tonight) “have the desire and are fit”. UTG! The game is crazy. Look at Salford paying a couple of players £4,000 per week in the National League. I was personally speaking to a manager in the National League South during the past week who was frustrated about not being able to compete for players at that level because some are being offered £900 a week and claimed there are even some already earning over £1,000. £900 or £1,000 per week for playing part-time football in the 6th tier! Very true. And to put it into perspective, the average UK wage is around £27,000 a year, or just over £500 a week. Last April, before gaffers went to Salford DC told me at the BRFPA dinner that Salford had a budget of £2m & were looking at £3k a week on some players.

The striking option is a major concern, just to state the obvious... Taylor, Bodin, gaffney, Harrison. Presumably this will be the first time DC has had a decent sum of money to spend, that will possibly mean breaking the wage structure? The concern is team togetherness. I was anticipating Nicholls having a good season, but we need a proper Jason Roberts style player alongside him. I think we may be a surprise package next season keep the faith Gasheads!! Genuine question... Why do you think that? Whilst I love positivity, I do also love a bit of evidence or rational thinking. I feel we've made some great signings but also lost really important players. It'll certainly be an interesting season. And more new faces than usual.

Just seen on twitter that someone spoke to DC at the open day and he's said that he hasn't got any targets lined up yet because he doesn't know how much he will have to spend. Surely you'd like to think all of it and he can get two strikers in for that amount? No chance. If you are a striker worth around 750k or so, your sights are set higher than League 1. Not always true. It's about wages. Take a non-lge prospect on £1k a week (that's still almost twice the average weekly UK wage) & give him £2/3k a week and he's potentially happy. Where a player may wait is if he thinks he can get a better club later and / or a better deal if he waits until his contract runs out & then expects a signing on fee / extra wages as he's 'saved' the club money.

Historically we've sold quite a few players for £1m+ and I can't remember us ever spending anywhere near what was received on replacements. Having watched this over the past 35 years with various owners/chairman/CEO's I'm pessimistic until I see otherwise. If looking at the last two years we've sold Taylor and Bodin and I don't think the total of those fees were re-invested in transfer fees. Also, if we are operating at an annual loss there's more reason not to spend. I'm sure we'll get an idea of what is being invested back into the playing budget in the next couple of weeks with the calibre of signings. We sold £2.4million worth of talent under Ollie one summer and spent £600k on replacements. And almost half was one of the worst purchases ever, Mickey Evans. Sold for peanuts 6 months later.
