Pay up by 5pm today or face expulsion, say Conference as Hereford United get final warning
6:02am Thursday 5th June 2014 in Hereford United Latest News By Ian Morgan
HEREFORD United must pay their football creditors in full by 5pm tonight (Thursday) or face expulsion from the Football Conference.
That’s the stark warning from Football Conference general manager Dennis Strudwick, who says United have ‘a lot of work to do’ to remain in the competition.
London businessman Tommy Agombar has been officially revealed this week as United’s new owner with David Keyte continuing as chairman.
And United’s staff have been assured by the club they will be paid outstanding wages before 3pm today (Thursday).
But yesterday morning, Strudwick said United had not yet replied to an invitation to the Conference’s board meeting at which the club’s immediate future will be decided.
And Chester, who were relegated on the last day of the season, will be hoping for a reprieve at the expense of the Bulls.
“The whole thing needs some clarity and it needs clarity very quickly,” Strudwick admitted.
“We do not have the authority to discuss the club’s affairs with a third party.
“The club need to submit a form to the FA and will need approval to the FA before we deal with any new owner in any authority on behalf of the club.
“Hereford United must settle their debts with football creditors by 5pm on Thursday – and the club are well aware what they need to do. The club have known this since May 14.
“Hereford United are not a position to call the tune - they must abide by the rules of the competition like the other member clubs in the Football Conference.
“We will also need a budget which must be compelling and detail that the club will not only meet their requirements for next season but how they will deal with the current debt, including an impending winding-up order from Revenue and Customs.”
Strudwick added: “I don’t want to prejudge this matter but, if a club fails to pay off their football creditors, they face being expelled from the competition and that includes the Conference North or South.
“In my opinion, football creditors are the wages owed to players and staff, other football clubs, the Football Conference, FA and the County FA.
United’s fate will be confirmed at the Conference’s board meeting which takes place tomorrow (Friday) at the Celtic Manor in Newport, starting 10.30am.
The Conference annual general meeting is being held on Saturday, starting at 11am.

Perhaps we should analyse this that Henbury Gas picked up on the other forum: Recent post on UWE Bristol Facebook page... www.facebook.com/groups/1419455094971841/permalink/1439183679665649/Text :- Sorry this is long but you need to see it. This is an e-mail sent by Trash to a Rovers fan, who they mistakenly believed was a supporter. Thank you Martin Lewis. Needless to say I have passed it onto the club, Charlotte and our local supportive councillor. Conversation started today Martin Lewis 09:38 Martin Lewis I've had an email over night from trash ( I took offence to one of their claims, emailed them , they now think I'm a supporter TWATS) not posted on the uwe start to finish due to the size but here it is Dear Supporters It was hugely disappointing that TRASHorfield were not able to take this case to the Court of Appeal after Justice Hickinbottom ruled against us in the judicial review. Whilst still sure of the merit of this legal argument, the value of protecting our high street, homes and neighbourhood, exposure to further forbidding costs and the inherent uncertainties of the Judicial system led us to conclude sadly that we had to draw a close to this legal process. The adverse impacts of the Sainsbury’s development are indisputable and irreversible and we remain determined to do what we can to highlight and challenge these, seeking appropriate mitigation wherever possible for the damage it will inflict. Since the Judicial Review lots has happened: Notably, local historian and photographer, Jamie Carstairs has made an application to English Heritage to have the whole of the Memorial Ground listed, in recognition of the entire sports ground being Bristol’s largest and most important war memorial. English Heritage have rejected the application so far, but we understand a challenge to this decision is being lodged with the Secretary of State. TRASHorfield are fully behind Jamie's campaign and you can find the 38 degrees petition and further information about the Memorial Ground here: tinyurl.com/savethemem Please sign if you feel that it is wrong and disrespectful to build a supermarket on a war memorial. Please also forward this email onto anyone you think could help the campaign by signing the petition. A significant piece of good news is the recent election by a large margin in the Bishopston Ward of a second Green Councillor. Tim Malnick joins Daniella Radice to represent the interests of constituents in Bishopston including our precious high street. We are delighted that Tim has been elected with over 47% of the vote. His clear stance on the supermarket and concerns about the Gloucester Road, traffic and pollution all confirm what local people already knew: that the majority of local residents are in opposition to a goliath supermarket on the Memorial Ground, despite what a press-hungry MP would have us believe. We also wonder what if any implications there may be for BRFC's new stadium now that they have been relegated. One thing is certain, we must ensure that the supermarket does not proceed unless the stadium is complete, this was Bristol City Council's justification for granting permission for the supermarket. Over the forthcoming months you will see our presence as we continue to raise the final outstanding funds to settle our legal bill with a number of community focused activities and events. We will also endeavour to raise awareness of our campaign nationally and publicise the injustices of poor planning decisions taken with scant regard for the wishes of local people. We will continue to keep the Council on its toes with regards to the impacts of poor air quality and inadequate highways planning as Bristol moves towards becoming the UK's first Green Capital of Europe. An essential part of this will be to keep abreast of any amendments to the plans for the Memorial Stadium. You may be aware that Sainsbury’s have already applied for an extension to delivery hours which would have rendered this development even more anti-social and was fortunately refused by Bristol City Council. TRASHorfield will take action should Sainsbury’s attempt to further alter the terms of the Section 106 Legal Agreement as they appear to be intent on doing. Once again, to all the thousands of you who worked with us to do our very best to stop this development we extend our continuing gratitude. This is not over yet; perhaps, just perhaps we will still see a better outcome for this special site. Best regards TRASHorfield Read more: www.gasheads.org/thread/57/give#ixzz33hKnq4PV

Commenting on the decision David Haythornthwaite, Chairman of AFC Fylde said: “........ this is really good news and the result of a hell of a lot of work behind the scenes by a lot of people. We’ve already invested over a million pounds in acquiring the site and preparing for this moment so it would be a tragedy for us to fall at this last hurdle. The good thing is that if we do succeed next Wednesday ( planning permission granted today) work can begin virtually straightaway. There are some legals to agree and we then have to wait six weeks to allow for a judicial review. So if all goes to plan we will begin construction in late August, early September”. The site will provide a new six thousand capacity stadium for AFC Fylde with 2000 seats in the main stand and will meet all the ground requirements for the Football League. It will also provide eight all weather 3G pitches, including a full size football pitch and hockey pitch up to National League standards. Mr Haythornthwaite added: “Our manager has given us a team to be proud of and we now want to build a stadium to suit. After five promotions in just eight years we are only two steps away from our aim of League Football by 2022. This facility will be a huge step forward and hopefully convince any remaining doubters of our true intentions”.

Planning permission just passed for a new Stadium and Complex at AFC Fylde. Another little club trying to do a Fleetwood Town. They used to be known as Kirkham & Wesham F.C. and have progressed from North West Counties League Division Two in 2007 to the Conference North. Prior to that they were in the West Lancashire League.

A plea to the Board
The third Sunday in July is normally the Bristol Rovers Football Club annual fun day at the Memorial Stadium.
Is it scheduled to take place this year? Or is this another event where the Board are not prepared to face the fans?
In my view there is a real danger that unless the Board start engaging in a proper dialogue with the fans the "Fun Day" will become a "Day of Protest".
Nick Higgs and the BOD clearly have got to act quickly to sort out the "chasm" that they have created with the fans before this mess gets even worse.
We are all crest-fallen Nick - please do not make it even worse.

BRFC News Update from Twatter:
We will be having a chat with manager Darrell Clarke tomorrow morning and will bring you an update on what is happening at the Mem.
Looks like Darrell is being put back in the firing line with the Board still hiding behind the barricades!

Very well written - thanks. JJT seems to have a number of clubs chasing him including Southend, Burton, Scunthorpe and Walsall. If there is no fee he could be negotiating a massive wage to the "highest bidder". Which makes his comment about it being such a hard decision to leave even more hollow Also felt his timing was suspect - burying "bad news" with our "good news" re Rickie.

BRISTOL ROVERS BLOG: G is for Gas - Catch 44By The Bristol Post | Posted: June 03, 2014 By MARTIN BULL What‘s Catch 44 I hear you ask? It’s Catch 22, but twice as fiendishly problematic. Last week we had our first definite news of whether any of our players are staying or leaving, and as we are now into June I suspect we may hear more news this week. To borrow a Clash song, the dilemma of ‘should I stay or should I go?’ is as knotty as a labyrinthine contract drawn up by Wycombe Wanderers. You have to question the ambition of any players, except maybe the young lads, who would want to stay at Rovers now that we‘re in non-league. And surely we don’t really want to retain any players with such a lack of ambition or self belief? But we need some players. If they did all leave there will be trouble, and if they stay it will be double. That’s Catch 22. So, as a logical progression from Catch 22, if a player does stay you are left doubting if inflated wages or their own lack of ability to play at a higher level could be the reason they haven’t left? And then you would naturally ask yourself why we would want players like that and what negative influence this state of affairs could have on the team, especially on new, hungrier signings, whose bellies aren’t full and whose pay is lower. Players, and agents, talk. They get to know what each other earns. That’s Catch 44. Maybe I’m being too harsh and have forgotten to factor loyalty into this equation? Unfortunately loyalty only seems to work one-way in football at the moment. If a player has a contract, his club will loyally support him, even when injured, under investigation by higher powers, or going through a personal nadir. Conversely, if a player wishes to turn his back on the club, it seems he can quite easily engineer a move away and suffer no consequences for it, except maybe a few choice songs from the terraces if they ever dare return. In addition a cynic may insinuate that the few players who do show ‘loyalty’ are merely displaying inertia, especially if they have a settled family and children here, and / or are from the area. In a week where Rickie Lambert has moved to one of the most successful clubs in the world, and will be on a plane to Brasil, it reminds me of the old adage that you need to keep your best players in order to progress. Fortunately it seems like a few of our best players are genuinely pleased to stay and fight, although I suspect an attractive salary may still be a factor in any evaluations made. Slightly bizarrely we had two players named in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) League Two Team of the Year, whereas all the other nine were from promoted teams. One of course was the brilliant Michael Smith. The other was John-Joe O’Toole. Are these awards a source of pride, or did they just highlight the overall under achievement at Rovers? Although Gasheads expected JJ to solicit a move away, and take his questionable mindset with him, I think we were shocked that we didn’t even receive a bag of magic beans for him as some naïve yokel had allowed a ’get out of jail free’ card to infiltrate his portly contract. That just about sums up the confidence he had in us and why we should never have appeared so desperate to give him the golden egg the goose had laid. As one twitterer remarked “helped take you down but doesn’t have the guts to stay and help you back up”. A test case in loyalty (from either side; our club is equally dis-loyal to us fans if it constantly flogs its finest prospects) may be Ryan Brunt. I sense Gasheads would be irritated if the alleged interest in Ryan Brunt led to a transfer after his infinitesimal contribution to the side last season. He didn’t score a solitary goal, although he never looked wholly fit to me and later had a succession of operations. He showed his potential the previous season though, and as long as his injuries don’t lead to another Dominic ‘sick note’ Blizzard scenario, I think his heady mix of strength and skill could tear defences apart in the Conference. Liverpool have confirmed the signing of former Bristol Rovers striker Rickie Lambert. The 32-year-old, who scored 51 goals in 128 for The Pirates, moves from Southampton following a six year spell at St Mary's. Rovers are set to receive £200,000 for the forward due to the sell-on-clause that was penned into his contract after his move from the Memorial Stadium in 2009. Speaking on Liverpool's official website, Lambert said: "I can't believe it. I've loved this club all my life. I left here 17 years ago - and I haven't stopped loving it since. Related content "I have always dreamt of playing for Liverpool, but I did kind of think the chance of playing for them had gone. I didn't think the chance would come. "I know how big Liverpool are - and it means everything to me - but I know what is important; I know it's what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play. I know that's what matters, and that's what I'll be focused on." Bristol Rovers set to land £500,000 thanks to Lambert transferBy The Bristol Post | Posted: June 02, 2014 BRISTOL Rovers will secure a surprise financial windfall when Rickie Lambert's move from Southampton to Liverpool is confirmed later today. The striker completed a medical on Saturday and is expected to be unveiled as Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers' first signing of the summer after a deal reported to be worth £4 million, plus add-ons was agreed with Southampton last week. Lambert, 32, left Rovers to join Southampton in a £1 million transfer five years ago, but a sell-on clause that guaranteed Rovers a 20 per cent cut of any future moves was inserted in that deal. That means Rovers are likely to receive somewhere in the region of just over £500,000 after taking into account the amount Rochdale will receive as part of a 25 per cent sell-on clause inserted in the initial £200,000 deal that saw Lambert arrive at the Memorial Stadium from Spotland in 2006. Rovers will also be entitled to 20 per cent of the add-ons – unofficially reported to be worth up to £1 million – if and when they are realised at a future date. The unexpected windfall could not be more welcome at a time that Rovers are looking at a loss of up to £1 million as a result of their recent relegation to the Conference. Lambert, meanwhile, will be joining his boyhood club following five successful seasons at Southampton during which he has been part of a side that has risen from League One to become an established Premier League outfit. The striker became a firm fans favourite during his three years at the Memorial Stadium after being signed for a fee of about £200,000 from Rochdale to replace Nottingham Forest-bound Junior Agogo in 2006.
