The grant one is a tough one. From what I understand he has played the vast majority of his career to date as a central defender. It is asking a lot for him to play at a high standard regularly while he is learning on the job a relatively new and important position on the pitch. IMO based on what I’ve seen from him he undoubtedly has some talent and his grounding in the game should stand him in good stead in the future. Clarke-salter didn’t pull up any trees while with us but has now progressed and playing a higher standard of football than us. I can very much see grant doing the same. While that's not a problem if an individual is currently struggling having never had any minutes at that level when we have Grant, Liddle, McCormick, Daly, Hargreaves, Ayunga, Tutonda, Harries, Barrett and Koiki all with very little experience at this level. only 2 of those started on Wed.

Grant asap unless massive improvement this month.shows as much enthusiasm as a goldfish swimming in the desert Do the other 10 players show more enthusiasm than him ? If so, can you explain in what way/how they are doing this ?

I have to be honest I turned off when we conceded the second. I felt positive at half time that we would get something from the game but second half we didn’t perform. I know people have said about inexperience but there are plenty of experienced pros out there tonight. What we lack is steel, fight and pride. I didn’t understand the change back to a back three at half time. If McCormick was injured surely we could of made a like for like replacement as I felt we looked in the game playing 4231. Hargreaves must be wondering what he has to do to get a game at the moment We were actually doing OK before they got their second. The problem is that it was so easy for them to get their second yet we could play until Friday and still not score. very good cross though for the 2nd. We had about 10 into Bonham's gloves in the 2nd with just an occasional semi-dangerous one put in.

Jaakkola 6.5 one very good save, too slow at using the ball (but why does he receive so many back passes ?) Hare 4 poor game Ehmer 5 terrible mistake, played better after it Baldwin 4.5 nothing convincing about this guy. Leahy 5
Grant 5 Upson 6 showed good composure in the 1st
McCormick 5 takes too many touches - should drive forward or pass it quicker Oztumer 7 dserved to be on the winning side Nicholson 6 exciting first half - wasteful when shoved on the right in the second.
Hanlan 5 marked out of the game
Subs: Kilgour 5 Walker 5.5 lots of endeavour Koiki 5 looks awkward but tries hard Westbrooke 5 nothing happening with him
Ref 6 Gillingham 6 coasted to victory, played on our vulnerability at the back with direct play

That was depressing. We looked lively up front but dodgy at the back until the first goal. Their goal, after a calamitous mistake by Ehmer knocked us for six ! Not impressed by Tisdale's tactical move in the 2nd though. Nicholson was looking vey dangerous coming in from the left first half - but for a lack of composure he could've bagged 1 or 2 early on. 2nd half he was put wide right and our main goal threat had gone !?? We have some poor defenders - heading is a massive weakness for many of them - Baldwin and Hare to name two. We need to score first in a game or it doesn't look good at the moment. A shame Daly was missing - Hanlan was handled impressively by Ogilvie-their star defender.
Evans is a massive ass in every sense !

He's very talented but needs to be guided better - hopefully Tisdale will get the best out of him as the season progresses.

I agree that 4 at the back is more important than 2 up top at the moment. (I do also prefer 2 or 3 forwards). We were leaking so many goals, so it doesn't take an Einstein to see we had to change the 3 at the back system. Also, I think our weakest recruitment in the summer were the defenders - of all the recruits I rate Tutonda the most (surprised he lost his place but looks as if Tis wants more experience in his team). Baldwin and Harries - have mistakes in them on a regular basis and Ehmer has been average ( not the quickest either). Think Alfie struggled when he was asked to play right of a three or the right back. I hope he gets a chance to stake his claim in the middle of the 4 soon. So will be happy foe Tis to persist with 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 for the time being. Looks like he won't have a chance to pair up Daly and Hanlan again on Wednesday - one or the other has been missing for him so far.

Nothing gets me more teary eyed and warm hearted with nostalgia than our dominant 1st round cup victory (in a replay) against non-league Bromley under GC.
No wonder a man who chose to leave the club is still held in such high regard and gets his deserved mentions in a thread about a 6-0 victory 2 managers later.
Yeah I'd take 4th in L1 at Christmas and beat Bromley in the cup, than be in relegation but beat Darlington 6-0. nothing decided at Christmas. lest we forget.

Any news on the JD injury ? would be surprised if he'll be fit for Wed - when you do your ankle ligaments like that I'd say it's a week minimum. But we will have Brandon back

Was OK, just OK though. A well needed, confidence booster. yes I agree. Would have been ok if we won by 7 - which would have been a Rovers FA Cup record. Get some perspective guys !?!?

Take this into the Gillingham game on Wednesday please Gas, that’s the important game with where we are in the table. Nicholson, Oztumer and McCormick had excellent games, caused Darlington all sorts of problems. Truly dominant performance. Hope we go on and get a big FA Cup draw now, feels like we’re overdue one as the last big draw in this competition for us was all the way back in 2011 at home to Aston Villa. Agree about these 3 but you missed out Grant - had a very good game again - always there to mop up threats, good passing and energy. Doesn't lose the ball.

Jaakkola 7 one very good save
Hare 7 well taken goal, generally steady and energetic Ehmer 6.5 decent Baldwin 6 some really sloppy passing Leahy 7 two excellent penalties
Grant 8 excellent game - helped defence a lot, good movement and passing Liddle 6.5 steady debut
McCormick 7 full of running, some lovely bits of skill Oztumer 8 very good goal and was non-stop with his closing down Nicholson 7.5 deserved his goal
Daly 7.5 his goal typifies his willingness to chase and harry opponents
Subs: Kilgour 6.5 looked good Westbrooke 5.5 Harries -
Ref 8 gave 2 correct pens. Darlington 6 pretty good going forwards, but couldn't cope with our movement from the 1st goal.
Well done Gas, Well done Tis !

We're f**ked whatever in all honesty. Honestly don't think the players are anywhere near good enough and I fear that the manager won't be either. L2 here we come. judged on yesterday or ALL the games you've seen this season ?

Even if Jonah comes back it's still not enough IMO he's not got enough experience at this level. I dont know who's bright idea it was not to sign an experienced centre forward before the start of the season. BG, TE or both.. At the rate we're going would have been better to keep JCH and lost out on the transfer fee. Hanlan is playing his 3rd or 4th season at L1, but with Ayunga struggling for fitness then yeah would be good to get another forward in. Also, have Phillips/Warwick on the bench - give them 15 mins in a game like yesterdays !

We played awful today no attack no urgency and played the wrong players- Swindle were awful too should have been 0-0 Truely awful game and in the bottom four. Passing was garbage as well. Not happy 😡😡😡😡😡 Agree about the lack of urgency but I honestly think that's because Tis went for a 0 - 0 today - very disappointing considering Swindon must've been feeling very down and vulnerable after Tues. Got bitten on the bum for it. He's gotta pull his finger out !

Look on the bright side at least PT has not lost the dressing room as he never had them. Totally disjointed performance and defeats looming at Wigan and Darlington-whose next inline for the merry go round. Are you Gas365s brother or cousin pal ?

Does anyone else think Koiki is better than Tutonda ? shocked by this one. I don't think we've seen enough of them to judge tbh. Tutonda looks amazing in spells but makes a lot of mistakes too. Koiki I haven't seen enough of yet. don't think Tutonda makes more mistakes than anyone else. I only saw Tutonda make one mistake today of any note.
