Personally I'd switch to a 4 but I want my centre backs to be defenders first and ball players second, Id go 4-1-4-1 Jaakkola Hare Kilgour Ehmer Tutonda Grant JML Westbrooke Oztuhmer Nicholson Hanlan Agree with you almost completely, but Daly up there with Hanlan in place of Otzumer - has not really impressed me. I can't remember him doing one really good thing in 2 games and a few sub appearances. Daly scores when he's had any chances and works so hard for the team.

The best players for me this season have been Jaakkola, Ehmer, Tutonda, Westbrooke, Grant, Nicholson, Daly and Hanalan. So I'd build the team around them. Personally, I'd also have Kilgour in. Formation - 4-4 -2. probably Hare at RB - hopefully somebody can help him with his defending (would rather have Little but he's still injured). Ehmer has been played all along the backline - he's not had a chance to settle in a position - BG's fault there. Ehmer and Kilgour in the middle of the four would make us more solid I reckon.

I think its less of a case of risk for any players but more of an opportunity for those who've been frozen out. Most players are new to the squads its not as if we've got an assortment of settled players stealing a living. whose been frozen out ? I can only think of Kilgour to some extent - it's down to BG not being flexible with his approach and leaving substitutions till the tide had turned

All eleven who started today? I think the only person who can feel comfortable with their position at the moment is Jaakola. Maybe Hanlaan too because I'm not sure we have another fit central striker. give it a break ! the players are good better than we've had for a while. BG unfortunately was a one-trick pony with his tactics.

Is Jaakkola so good that it has masked our defensive frailties? I don't think you can underestimate not only his goalkeeping ability but also his presence and command of his area. The defense seem to gel better when he's in goal and also seem to get caught out of position far less. Jaakkola is a very good shotstopper but for me he should command his area much better than he does - i.e. claiming or punching away high crosses/corners.

Don't kill me but the only candidate (without a job) I can think of who would do a good job is Lee Johnson.

van Stappershoef 3 so slow with everything he does
Ehmer 4 why wasn't he marking Evans for their 4th ? Baldwin 4 too sloppy, poor heading and passing Harries 4 too slow with his decision-making
Hare 4 Grant 7 only player to play well in both halves - took his goal well Westbrooke 5 McCormick 5 Koiki 4.5 Tutonda is better
Oztumer 4.5 nothing decisive Hanlan 6 too isolated
Subs: Nicholson 6 gave us some forward impetus 2nd half Daly 5.5 tried to get in amongst them. Tutonda 5
Ref 7 Fleetwood 8 played in our half - good movement and street-wise.
I was concerned at the start - Kilogur, Nicholson, Daly and Tutonda all on the bench !! Then we had our bonkers tactics of playing short goal kicks against that wind and rain in the first half. 0- 2 down at ht and a mountain to climb. We scored with practically our only incisive move of the game.

are you including Harries slicing the ball when defending in our penalty area in you assessment? As for Baldwin, I wont comment. Two young quality players right there. Both more than capable of getting in amongst the goals also. In turn I assume Kilgour is faultless? Let me take you back to the car crash that was the league cup season opener where he was targeted relentlessly by the tractor boys & that abysmal piece of decision making Vs Posh just last week. I wish the boy all the very best, but you do not have to be Sir Alex to see he is 4th choice in this side. Why don't you all stop criticising the players ! Can Kilgour never have a poor game ?

Just seen on Alex's Instagram that he was back in training today. Fingers crossed that he's seen the back of this illness, must have been very frustrating for him. A good option and competition for Hare. I don’t really see Nicholson as a RWB - bit wasted there and needs to be further up the pitch. good point Eric, but i always thought Rodders was a bit wasted at wing back - he's a good creater/ goalscorer who also should be higher up the pitch - remember his 2 v Barnsley last game 2 seasons ago ?

you must be gutted with the cup win. Thats really unfair and honestly a bit beneath you. No one on here who is unconvinced by Garner wants Rovers to lose. it makes me wonder sometimes

Main thing we are through, so at the end of the day pleased. But FFS, wasteful when on top in the first half, it could have been 3/4 up. Second half couldn’t cope when Walsall got on top. The warning signs were there with free headers. Not sure why we bring everyone back for corners/ set pieces around our box, yet still concede free headers in the box. Not for the first time, we are unable to adapt when the opposition get on top in a game & just invite them on by defending too deep. sorry we did adapt. It was a cup game. They threw players forward but only got one (and that was late on) so we stopped them from forcing extra time. We go through.

For all that we looked like we dominated in the first half, we only had 2 shots on target the whole game and therein lies our problem for me, roll on round 2 though.. bore off

Great first half but second played too deep but into the hat, Turkish messi superb, like Ali Kioki looks very strong. Plenty of positives UTG no party poppers and dust ourselves down Why was Otzumer superb ? He did pretty well. missed a very good chance early on. Ran a lot but he didn't really hit any incisive passes or dominate the play. Koiki had a very solid debut, but wouldn't say he did anything outstanding - I'd still pick Tutonda for Fleetwood if he is 100%.

Really dont understand how we can be so good first half and so poor in the second. I'm not sure we consciously sat back we just seemed unable to keep the ball. In fairness to Walsall they were much better 2nd half but we stopped doing the things we'd done well. Oztuhmer has to play we looked so much more creative with him in the side, Koiki also impressive. They've shown there is the potential for a decent attacking side there, BG now has to get that over 90 mins rather than in patches. We're in the hat which personally I think was important for confidence and now have a rare free week leading into Fleetwood. Onwards & upwards That's football. Walsall threw the kitchen sink at us in the 2nd and played a lot better. We defended well though.

Jaakkola 7 one very good stop 1st half
Kilgour 6.5 defended better as the game went on Baldwin 7 nice to get a goal from a CORNER !! Ehmer 7.5 looked in control
Nicholson 7 good defensive stuff 2nd half Upson 6.5 cool on the ball Westbrooke 7 lovely passing 1st half McCormick 6.5 lively, helped out well in 2nd. Koiki 6.5 willing runner
Oztumer 6.5 faded in 2nd half Hanlan 7.5 lovely goal, played well too
Subs: Liddle 5 Hare 6 Grant -
Ref 8 Walsall 6 fought back well in the 2nd, probably deserved their goal.
Game of 2 halves. Rover dominant 1st and then Walsall really pressed in the 2nd - thought Rovers defended well to keep them at bay.

Was at that Shrewsbury game. MILLWALL TONE,OLLIE,SERCS AND OGOGO.What a great game.Do wish three of those four were still here,Ollie being the odd man out. Craig, Clarke and Sercs now play in L2 and Ogogo in National League - how come ? a Trump conspiracy ?

I would be interested in... (When fit) Jaakkola Kilgour Ehmer Harries Hare Westbrook Grant Tutonda Nicholson Ayunga Hanlan Ayunga is the target man with Hanlan playing a bit deeper in the space between the mids and def. I think with him picking the ball up and driving at defenses and Ayunga being the tip of the spear that will work wonders. My only concern then is the fitness required of Ayunga as I can't see him doing all these bits Hanlan does but I guess when he gets tired shift back to what we are doing now with Hanlan at the number 9 and Daly coming in to harass in the number 10 role. We also have excellent options to rotate/refresh with McCormick/Ozzy/Hargreaves/JML/Koiki/Baldwin My team too ,but a fully fit Little for Hare - just think he's got more quality than the ever-willing bouncing Hare.

My main concern so far is with performances, not results. IMO we’ve been well beaten & deserved nothing from all the games we’ve lost so far, but been fairly unconvincing in most of the matches we have taken points from (bar Lincoln). - Sunderland 1-1 = scored early pen & defended for 90+ mins (fair enough). - Northampton 2-0 = nothing in the game until we got a pen & they had a man sent off. - Burton 1-1 = two poor sides, scored due to Burton clanger at the back. - Shrewsbury 1-0 = Shrews missed 2 sitters + had 1 cleared off the line. - Rochdale 1-1 = scored out of nothing, created nothing else, Rochdale missed best chance of the game. Delighted we got those wins & a great point at Sunderland, of course, but the performances in those games haven’t filled me with much confidence. I’d say that things can only get better from an attacking sense! Your opinion mate ! Northampton, Burton and Rochdale - we were the better team. The fact that we didn't win them all has been well-documented - we should create more and finish better when on top. It'll come as the season progresses.
