Newport county March 16 1982 1-1, mickey Barrett had a goal disallowed for offside apparently. Went there with my uncles and brother, I was 7 I was at that game as well, Micky cut in from the left wing and hit a screamer into the far right top corner only for it to be disallowed because Archie Stephens was stood in an offside position. Crazy decision!

Mine was the old Meadow Lane, Notts County ground in 1970 or 71. It really as an old-fashioned ground. The stands were wooden and the main stand was all standing I seem to remember. The terraces were sleepers and ash, and it really was in n a terrible state. Football watching facilities were dreadful in that period, and that ground would probably be condemned under present H & S rules. The area the stadium was in is called The Meadows, a name that brings to mind pleasant, sunny uplands with cattle peacefully grazing on the verdant herniated. Nothing could be further from the truth! The area consisted of a grim Victorian housing estate with 2 up 2 down terraces of back to back houses, probably only equipped with outdoor privvies. It made St Pauls or Easton look like Stoke Bishop. I next went there for the area final on the Dafty Cup. We outnumbered their fans that evening, the ground had been renewed, and the grim Victorian streets had been cleared away and replaced with grim, modern dwellings, no doubt equipped with indoor bathrooms and sanitation. What happened in the first game?, I hear you ask. 2-0 down at half time, went on to win 3-2. Harold was among the scorers. The players came out and talked to the fans outside the changing rooms while we were waiting to board the supporters club coaches. Nowadays if you want to visit a sh** ground with open terraces etc, why, visit the Mem! I was there too!

I think the Stoke game was the year before? I think we beat QPR 1-0 to set up the tie? I’m probably wrong though!!

John Rudge scored our first, McIlroy equalised for Manure and Bruce Bannister scored the winner. We then played Wolves in the next round and got beat 4-0.

Quite simply the best goalkeeper I have ever seen. His save against Harold Jarman at Eastville was equal to the famous one against Brazil for England. A true gentleman too. RIP.

How many players in a Bristol Rovers shirt can say they scored at Old Trafford and come away victorious?

Does anyone remember Robin Stubbs thought he was a great striker and had a great Tash! ! And a cracking wife!! I think she was a beauty queen, or model!! Robin Stubbs! Came to us from Torquay United. He is one of my all time favorites! Anthea Redfern was his wife, she appeared on the first Generation Game programs and later married Bruce Forsyth. So you can bet she got a Brucies bonus!!!
