This article, although quite old, starts to explain it, www.theguardian.com/football/2023/may/05/english-football-league-agrees-new-935-deal-with-sky-sports“Under the deal 1,059 league, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy matches will be shown live either on a Sky main channel or via a Sky streaming platform, replacing the iFollow service for domestic viewers. The blackout stays but more matches will be available to stream, with six games across the Championship, League One and League Two set to kick off at 12.30pm each Saturday. The deal means 26 out of 36 matches will kick off at Saturday 3pm – seven Championship matches plus 19 across Leagues One and Two. The EFL acknowledges the changes in kick-off times can make planning difficult for fans and has committed to placing all live matches up to the FA Cup third round before the start of each season.” IPG

Good luck mate. Went through the whole cancer scare thing earlier this year. Amazing what they can do now so truly hope it will all be ok. Don’t know you ( but probably recognize you as I’ve been watching since the early 1970’s), but keep fighting and updating us on here if you feel like it.

Really pleased for you Tilly. Since I have been following your progress/ battle I have also been diagnosed with Prostate cancer. I had no symptoms at all but have had blood tests every 6 months. After a higher than usual result, (PSA12), then a few other checks was told I had cancer and then more checks later that it had not spread. I have had my 1st radiotherapy session today, 19 to go! Everything points to a successful outcome!
Sorry to repeat myself but …….. I had No symptoms at all, only voluntary tests, they have got it early. The tests are not too bad and far better than the potential alternative!

So if we normally have about 35 Saturday 3 o’clock kick-offs per season, 5 of the 12 fixtures per week will be moved to either Friday, Saturday lunchtime or 5.00 or Sunday instead. We will probably only have about 15 Saturday 3 o’clock kick-offs per season! (I think).
Good job they are going to give a longer notice time for the changes…..that is an enormous change to EFL football.

“ The new deal allows for ‘Article 48’, the blocked broadcast period between 2.45pm and 5.15pm on Saturday afternoons to remain, meaning that main broadcast fixtures will be scheduled for outside of this time. Final fixture slots will be confirmed at a later date. ”
This means that a lot of matches a season are not going to be 3.00 pm Saturday kick-off!

In Riga bus station about 10 years ago and went to the snack bar. The man serving asked where I was from, I told him “England”, he asked in very broken English “are you a Gashead”? when I answered yes he said he followed us due to Vitas Astafiev, and added that he also “hated City”. We probably had quite a few back then as Vita’s is a real legend in Latvia.

I’ve been wondering for a while, why do you ask?
Ive not see Kev for a while and he seemed perfectly ok last time, so I would say, 2 (if 1 is ‘un-crusty’).

This is a real compliment to Rovers fans considering it came from Scott Brown. I know he isn’t comparing the Mem to any of the great grounds and atmospheres he played in throughout Europe and of course in Glasgow derbies, and he was talking about the team not necessarily himself being intimidated, but the fact that he felt it a contributing factor, then all Gasheads that were there should indeed take a bow!

Wonder if this will be featured on the next Wrexham Disney+ documentary...? As I am relatively local the local news are reporting that "Rob & Ryan " are embarrassed I had a chat with two Wrexham supporters who hated “everything English” on the way to a Rovers away game a while ago. I did ask why they supported their team playing in the English system and why not support a team in the Welsh system, they said it was because their own leagues were sh1t, which seemed a strange reply. The problem with a minute’s silence is that if a few people shout it quickly descends into a shouting match which seems to be the case at Wrexham. IPG

brct - Great work. I think a lot of the commentators that are part of the womens game really tried to emphasise the efforts of people like you and your team in their comments over the last few days. The crowd of 2,500 was more than I remembered it to be, so sorry about that! Keep up the good work and will try to change my ‘mindset’ to UTG and UTGG.

Agree with above. Loads of politicians and commentators jumping on the bandwagon to level up the mens and womens teams, only one that I have heard say he has ever watched a womens game, ( Kevin McGuire, Sunderland women). Fair play to Rovers for playing the friendly at the Mem but I seem to remember the crowd wasn’t great unfortunately. IPG www.bristolroverswomensfc.com

I hope you can all indulge me for a moment or two with this story from late yesterday afternoon. I picked up my youngest and his two mates from the open Air pool / Lido at Portishead teatime yesterday, all are 16 years old just finished there GCSE's and chilling until they all go off and do there Football courses at college. The conversation in the car back to Bristol was a real eye opener. All three boys love the Thatchers end and love the Mem and couldn't think of watching the Gas anywhere else. They love the atmosphere especially because they can stand on the terraces. Now they are at the back, rather than behind the goal stood on their stools when I used to take 2 of them when they were 6 or 7. My lads best mates a top four Premier league fan and goes with his dad as season ticket holders. However he has been with the other two lads a couple of times now in the Thatchers and says he loves the banter the songs, atmosphere and says not quite Premier level but enjoys it even more. My other lads mate goes with his dad to another London Premier league club (which I wont name) and says the ground is a real hole and doesn't have the magic of the Mem. He has been going with my lad since they where both as I said 6 or 7. My lad is an absolute Gashead and no allegiance to any other team but the GAS. I have to admit every time I take him to St Mary's he loves it but says the atmosphere and match day experience of standing to watch a game in the Thatcher's with other gasheads is just better every time. (I have to say cheaper too). We do a few away games, and he says League two and League one clubs we have been to over the years still dont match the Gas experience (Pompey and maybe Oxford comes close he says). Anyway, bored you all now. The moral for me is there are some fans and I think its the youngster's like my lad and his mates wouldn't have it any other way but watch the Gas at the Mem. My lad said with his mates in the car yesterday it just wouldn't feel the same to be sat down in a new stadium. As I said at the start a real eye opener for me that there must be some supporters that still have a love for the Old Girl and would not move for anything. I now know their are three 16 year olds that do. (Provided that Saftey, Security, toilets, food, ect are all ok of course). What a reassuring post. Exactly how I feel, which I put down to me being an Old Git. I do appreciate that in order to progress and basically generate more money, a new ground is needed, but enjoy Our Mem’ while we can as there are a lot of things we’ll miss if/when we move. IPG
