Exactly aim higher. This is what I'm saying. If a person is psychically and mentally healthy to work he can't expect the government to give him things. If he creates and gives to the government as opposed to taking and not giving anything back which one do you think feels better and happier? Al, I dont believe you think that anyone wants to live "poor". There will always be wastrels, was ever thus, but the vast majority of people want the best life and living standard they can achieve. What we must do, surely, is remove the road blocks that prevent them from achieving their ambition. If you grow up in an area where schools are underfunded, terrible facilities, short of staff, teaching materials, what do you think the standard of educational attainment will be? What do you think the impact on their earnings potential will be? Similarly if, as a parent you are in a relatively low paying job causing extreme pressure on your ability to afford housing, if your local health authority does not have the resources to care for your family to a standard worthy of a top 6 by economy nation, if your kids education is as described above, what do you think the outcomes are likely to be? It's not about "giving" things to anyone, its whether as a society, one that can afford it, we believe in ensuring the basics of a civilised society are there for everyone, regardless of income. I believe those basics are Housing, Health and Education. Take care of that, the rest takes care of itself. The Tories have *ed Housing, Health and Education. Vote for them and get the opposite of what you wish for. Oldie, it's my opinion that the vast majority of people get the life they think they can achieve. Also lots of people are very happy living in so called poor areas because they have an amazing community and are very satisfied with that. If they are unwell the NHS treats everyone the same an incredible plus for this country. I have been very lucky to have mixed with all types of people in my life and what I see is poorer people being just as able as better off people, only held back by themselves for many reasons. Many people have chosen not to make the sacrifices necessary to have a better life. This is true by some on benefits who do not pursue the extra money that is available to them. Imo it is more complex than to just blame the government whoever is in power.

Althepirate made a reasonable case there. He explained his reasoning and why he will vote the way he will.......and your response is "what a crock of absolute sh1t". Well done Officer, well done. Reasonably worded I agree. Incredibly naive and without foundation however. I notice the opposition call us names and assume things about us which aren't true. My opinions are based on what I see and hear on a daily basis in the real world not what is spoken and written in the media. I therefore think naive is a wrong assumption and the foundation is from reality, not a journalists keyboard.

It`s not a crock of absolute sh**te. It`s your opinion that it`s a crock of absolute sh**te. It`s my opinion that he`s 100% right. Its ok for people to have low wages because they should aspire to not be poor and if they are lucky one day they might not be. What an inspired system that is. Like I said, the British are only happy when there is someone more miserable than them. Aim higher. Exactly aim higher. This is what I'm saying. If a person is psychically and mentally healthy to work he can't expect the government to give him things. Thank you. Your in depth answer and language. It says it all about what we will get instead of the Tories. Self esteem isn't about government policy it's about yourself. The world doesn't owe anyone a living although you may think it does, it doesn't. No, thank you Sigmund for your pseudo-intellectual nonsense about self esteem and possibly the most non-sensical posts on this section of the forum. I'm sure the three hundred thousand homeless people in the UK or those victims in the increase of infant mortality or the thousands of teachers in this country begging for financial support will really respect your bullshit about self esteem. I maintain, what a crock of sh**e. Suffering will set you free people. Well there we have it folks, the alternative. All those will be so much better off under the everything's free parties. Great attitude you have too. I wish I could vote Tory twice now after listening to you. Good luck in your quest for effortless utopia.

I'm a lifetime Labour voter and for the first time I'll be voting Tory. Why? Not because the Tories are great because they are not, but OMG look at the alternative. Corbyn made a speech where he gave the impression young people shouldn't have to work to get things. That is fundamentally wrong for the human being. Our self esteem relies on work and achievement not getting something for nothing. Yes the Tories smash the Unions and offer low paid wages, but each individual should rise to that challenge and get higher up the ladder. To say they can't do it is a reflection on them not the government. Corbyn and his promises of everything free for little effort just creates low self esteem, crime and a breakdown in society where people will want even more for even less effort. It won't work as it completely goes against how human beings function and create. As for the delusional Swinson well 17% sorry but it won't make you PM. So sadly the Tories imo are nearest to reality and that is why, quite incredibly, they will get my vote. Yes, Tory policy has clearly worked over the last 10 years for self esteem of the individual and the collective. What a crock of absolute sh**e. Thank you. Your in depth answer and language. It says it all about what we will get instead of the Tories. Self esteem isn't about government policy it's about yourself. That's a bit silly Oldie, even for you. The real issue of course is the crass ignorance of Rees-Mogg, but a lot of us knew that. But out of interest, as you were the only one on here who seemed to agree with him by saying you would have run out of the building against the advice and perhaps command of the fire service, what would you do in my (hopefully) made up scenario. The constant attitude of 'My side is better than your side' is not really a discussion is it? We need to give a bit more, expand our minds and learn don't we? Let's face it, there's not many of them we would trust on any side of the house is there, or any?

Yes sadly Eric that's where we are at the moment and it's going to get worse. It doesn't fill me with much enthusiasm to post on here because it will just reflect the politicians and be toxic too. Still I will look at reality in the real world and put my cross where I think is best. That's all we all can do. On that interview (I was listening) the shadow health secretary made an ass of himself. He claimed that this years cancellations had grown significantly over last year, which turns out not to be true. Justin Webb jumped on him immediately and he accepted his statement was wrong there and then and tried to bluster his way out of it. If he had said "The level of cancellations are outrageous and causing poor medical outcomes with added stress to the patient" he would have been right. Jo Swinson was caught making a similar mistake recently. She claimed that the UK economy would shrink by 6% in the event of no deal. There is no such forecast. The forecast is that the UK economy could be upto 6% smaller than its potential if we stay in the EU. I am not sure if these guys are thick and just dont understand it, or they think we are and will fall for it (sadly a lot do, whatever the allegiance). I think it's the second one Oldie. Strange thing about politics we all get involved in it, get frustrated, have arguments, yet we don't have any power on a daily basis, only when the election comes around. The politicians aren't worth arguing over imo. It will be all lies and toxicity at least until the 12th.

Stuart I do like your posts. You do know how to listen and discuss. On this post I think Lib Dems are undemocratic, Labour can't make decisions, even now they haven't made a decision on Brexit! So a coalition of these two won't work and like you say if it came to that we'll be back again in a 12 months time. This is time we need strength, but who can get that majority? the whole point of democracy is you can take a contrary position
The Lib Dems are simply standing on a platform they have since day 1 to remain in the EU
It's clear where they stand. you can democratically elect them or not
They won't win a majority, but if they did then surely that is the will of the people and if we ever leave the Libs will probably democratically campaign to re-join
Far from undemocratic. quite the opposite
Then we will have to agree to disagree.

As seems likely 100 plus seats will go to other Partys neither the Tories or Labour will get a majority. So who would like to see a Corbyn Government supported by the SNP and Lib Dems and if so do you believe they would resolve Brexit and bring the Country together bearing in mind for there support the SNP would demand a referendum in the next Parliament At the moment I see it as 50/50 between a Conservative majority and a hung parliament. If the latter happens then I can see a Labour minority government with LibDem and SNP, etc support but no formal coalition, but I can't see it lasting 12 months before we go back again to the polls. It will manage a referendum (just) and then fall apart. In answer to your question, no, no and no but I don't think either option will. Hobson's choice. Stuart I do like your posts. Oh dear you do have a problem with the truth don't you. Best not to face it 'eh? Just stay in the world of wonderland. Swinson is going to be Prime Minister I hear? Happy to debate any topic based on actuals and truth. But absolutely not going to get into a slanging match with you. A pointless exercise, most often invoked by those on the extremes. Yes where you are. What you post isn't fact it's conjecture and if you post with a condescending tone a slanging match it will have to be.

Anyone that voted for Brexit has no other choice but to vote for Boris. Im not a Tory fan or any of the partys we are offered as they are all as corrupt as each other, but the thought of Labour in office and Jeremy Corbyn running our country and controlling Brexit gives me nightmares!!!!!!! Its his fault,as well as all the other remoaners that we are in this mess. They have dragged there heels and now look where we are...There actions have be disguting. Wrong thread. But the truth is somewhat different. Oh dear you do have a problem with the truth don't you. Best not to face it 'eh? Just stay in the world of wonderland. Swinson is going to be Prime Minister I hear?

Good one nobby, I'm directly comparable with Farage yes. Leader of the Brexit party wont stand in election. He is a coward because he knows he would not be elected. For the 8th time. He has stood for election seven times, and now you call him a coward because he won't stand for an eigth? Have a word with yourself. Oi don't give 'em the facts they are in fantasy mode as always

I'm not surprised to find you dont know then. Makes a bit of a mockery of your previous assertion about facts and having a mind of your own but there you go. I'll never convince you with facts something different than that which you believe with feelings. All the info is out there if you cared to follow it. It's always the same isn't it. What you have isn't facts. It's always the same isn't it.
