English Football League Jacob Davenport [Stockport County - Morecambe] Free Liam Smith [Dundee - Cheltenham Town] Free Ruben Vinagre [Sporting Lisbon - Hull] Loan Harry Williams [Alvechurch - Walsall] Moving your family from Lisbon to Hull. That is a hard sell.

Just seen the crowd was about 12150 or so. With 1139 rovers fans, that means 11000 cafc fans. It really didn't seem like that.
Ground was good, could have a pompey type atmosphere if full, but it seemed really empty in their end.

At the beginning of the season I looked at the league and based on my perception of the size of the clubs in terms of fan base and history I figured there were 9 clubs arguably bigger than us.
Definite big guns: Ipswich, Sheffield Wed, Derby, Portsmouth
Next tier: Barnsley, Bolton, Charlton, Plymouth, Peterborough (based on recent history more than fan base)
So I figured all the rest we are on a par with or bigger.
On this basis I thought we should aim to be the best of the rest, which would be 10th. A very decent position.
Looking at the table today the top 9 is made up of those 9 bigger clubs. And 10th is within reach for us.
10th this year. Followed by play offs next year. Please.

Just got home, as Burton is only 30 mins from my home. Haven't read any of this thread, but here are some thoughts.....
Wow. What a start. Evans really good today in a deeper role. Finley was class, and took control of that midfield.
Love look of Marquis, mobile and hardworking. Unlucky to hit the bar.
First half we passed it around really well.
Took 2 kids today who stood right behind the goal and loved it.
Great awayday. We are doing Pompey next which will be a lot longer for us. UTG

Not wishing to dwell upon it but getting very sick made me redress much of how i handled certain situations and people. I now just do not allow toxicity or nastiness to get to me, plus i learned how to use the ignore button, on all social platforms i use I am in this struggle mate and the struggle is real. Very easy forget there’s a man like you sat on the other side of the screen. A man with his own ego and pride just like you and me. Whenever I have a bad day I am prone to vent a little bit on here. Then regret it. It’s why I refuse to taunt the Barton outers now we’re doing well. One thing I’ve learned in life is to let the other guy save his face. Same with my Mrs. Same with kids. Never humiliate someone when they’re down or proven wrong. Not saying Barton outers are inherently “wrong” as they had reasons other than football, but you get my point. They will hate you for the rest of your life and if you’re gracious about it, they will remember that, forever. Not to go on another ramble on history KP but a lot of WW2 was due to the French (mainly) and Britain wanting Germany to be humiliated in defeat after the first war. That did not end well for anyone. Thankfully we learned the second time and helped rebuild Europe together as allies and friends. One of my key bits of advice to any young people is to be gracious in victory, let the other person save their dignity and face in defeat. Anyway, hangover ramble over! UTG This post made me think. Thanks. Gonna try and apply what you say a bit more with my kids.

Today I fear that i travel up with hope. It's always the hope that gets me.
When we went to Harrogate the other week I was convinced we were going to lose, and managed the kids and wife's expectations accordingly. And then it turned out great.
Not sure what to share with my family on the journey up.....should I pretend we are doomed again or tell them maybe. Just maybe.
Because, obviously, what I think and feel affects the result 😀

Based on reading the forum I feel like a lone wolf because I am willing to remain patient and see how things go with the current manager and the new set of players.
I'm not arguing for JB, but I'm willing to stay calm and watch what happens over the next few months.
I can't disagree with the concerns expressed, about off field matters, and our start has been poor. We have had a couple of good halves so far and quite a few poor ones. But I think it will change in time.
It is sh** us being so sh** for so long, but I think we will turn the corner. And change now would be fruitless.
Just wanted to offer an opinion that I'm not feeling I see on the forum much.

I was so looking forward to yesterday. But cant say I enjoyed it that much.
I think I had forgotten quite how horrible it can be sat with your family surrounded by grown men acting like Neanderthals, gesticulating like hard men, swearing at the police, calling the lines women a stupid cow and a whore. And then outside watching men (from both teams) being dicks both sides of a fence. My Mrs was uncomfortable, and my 11 year old wanted me to explain why men wanted to fight about football.
I've been going to matches since the 70s so seen plenty of the nonsense before but maybe the lockdown time off had made me forget a bit.
And as for the football, Jakkola got it wrong big time for their goal. The ref was not as bad as many are making out. And it was a Penalty. Stupid, stupid thing to do. Thought Luca Hoole was great. Liked the look of Hughes, and lovely goal by Cian.
It was weird seeing Grant and Westbrooke etc live as they look different ifollow.....not sure if that makes sense.
Anyway, there you go.

Been thinking.....
If we start next season in League 2, then surely we have the chance of a successful promotion season. As opposed to we stay up and are attempting to be mid table in league 1 next year. Bigger fish little pond and all that.
In my several decades of being Gas promotions have given me some of my best memories.
So, starting over with some new players might lead to a season to remember.

I'm a gashead who lives just outside walsall, so I follow a few walsall fans on Twitter. Just before 3PM quite a lot of moaning about DC tinkering with a winning side. At half time 2-0 down to Port Vale. He made 4 half time subs....cue a load of moaning. 2 subs score 2 each and they win 4-3.
Think that's 4 wins in a row after a slow start to the season (lots of draws)
Up to 8th now. Least defeats in the division.
P.S. only really noticed because no rovers today UTG

I havent posted much for some time but have been involved in forums since 1999 as probation gas and then this persona. At times i have been quite negative but when Wael and family bought the club is was a huge relief. I always went with my Dad Since i was 6 and i was now a Dad fearful of having no club to take my son too after its horrendous mismanagement by a generation of owners and poor managers. It seemed to go sour when things went quiet but this act of writing off £20m is ridiculously amazing all be it its insaine we ever got that much in debt. My Dad is now 72 and was diagnosed with cancer two weeks before lockdown. He should be ok but his treatment was delayed. This news has not only given me hope that my son wont end up being a twatty Liverpool fan but that both he and my Dad in his lifetime may experience a club that plays at a proper stadium with an ambitious owner and successful side. No reason for posting this other then to echo the many messages of thanks and say again just how much this means and please please may this not be another false dawn. Up the gas Ben Ben I have read the forums for a long time and remember Probation Gas, and had no idea Dinsdale was one and the same person. What Wael did last week made this fifty year old gashead emotional.....he reignited the hope. His motives have always seemed good to me, and now it seems he has the wherewithal to do stuff. The kind of stuff I would be doing if I was loaded. Anyway, nice post, about you and your dad and passing rovers onto your son. I lost made old man a year ago and said to my Mrs straight after the Wael news broke last week that I wish I could call him to tell him. I don't have my own kids, but have 2 Walsall step kids who come to matches, and one has definitely got gas in her know.

South Staffs. Just outside Walsall.
Lived in Yate for a few years aged about 10-13. Ended up following Rovers. No other Bristol connection. Go to away games. Not been to a home game since D&R game.

Crazily, think I will wait till the summer before forming an opinion on this new manager. I was still forming my opinion of GC when he quit....I'm not a short termer. I never took to him and couldn't really say why.
In the meantime I will just watch and support. And wince at the negativity, and vitriolic fickleness of some fellow gasheads.
Going to the match on Tuesday with my 13 year old stepdaughter and don't expect it to go well, but will still stay calm if we get beats like last time at St Andrews.

I am unclear what makes some people really not want Holloway as manager.
I was an active supporter when he was our player, but I think I was raving and partying when he was manager so don't remember his tenure.
Why are some so anti- Holloway?

Headed down the M6 my family have come up with 4 different MOTMs.... 9 year old has picked Victor. 13 year old gone with Sercs. Wife has chosen the keeper, which is hard to argue with but I reckon Ollie Clarke.
