I don't know how realistic this signing would be (probably unlikely), but 22-year-old striker Jean Marie-Dongou is available on a free transfer having been released by Spanish second tier side Real Zaragoza. The former Barcelona B player scored 4 goals in 5 starts (9 sub apps) last season. I've seen a bit of him playing for Barca B in the third tier and he looked strong, quick and a decent finisher.

Excellent Hat-trick here from Hirst on 26th July against Sunderland U23's.

Might be worth mentioning, especially now we have Brian Dutton who is "identifying players from abroad who would suit Rovers' playing style" according to the Bristol Post.

A few interesting free agents available. Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, 31-year-old, left winger, former Arsenal, Cardiff, Portsmouth, Birmingham. He created 4 assists from 6 starts (5 sub apps) during the 16/17 season for Dutch eredivisie side NEC Nijmegan. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quincy_Owusu-AbeyieAlex Nimely, 26-year-old, striker, former England U20. Scored 10 goals in 16 starts (19 sub apps) last season for Romanian side FC Viitorul and Norwegian side Stabaek IF. Had his problems in the past, but Sven-Goran Eriksson once described him as the "best young player" he had ever seen. Toto Tamuz, 86 goals in 188 starts. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toto_TamuzSimone Corazza, 51 goals in 176 starts. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simone_Corazza

Newcastle forward Ivan Toney is attracted loan interest from several League One clubs.
Wigan and Scunthorpe are keen on the 21-year-old, who spent time on loan at Glanford Park last season.
“He had a great time with us last season and I think we were good for him but I am sure other clubs will be in for his services,” said Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander.
“We will try our hardest but if not we will do something else.”

If you don't ask, you don't get. He previously went to Shrewsbury on a loan. He would be a good signing, hopefully we are in for him. Tony Pulis is keen to send out teenage duo Sam Field and Jonathan Leko out on loan, adding: "They need to get out and learn about the finer arts." www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2017/07/31/tony-pulis-wants-to-send-his-albion-kids-out-on-loan/#1Ze1udqSIY3i7Eih.99England youth international Leko might be another decent loan option. I was quite impressed with him against us on Saturday. Plays mostly from the right, but can also do a job on the left.

Leko has made 14 PL appearances for them at the age of 18 so is obviously highly rated. I wonder if Pulis would let us have him on loan or if he'd want him to go to Championship side.

I reckon he would let him go to a League One club first. The standard is improving all the time, some quality players/teams again this year.

And given Pulis's links to the Gas as well he might be more easily persuaded. May be worth DC making an enquiry if he hasn't already. Could be that bit of pace and skill we're currently missing. I still think Donovan Wilson would be worth asking about as well.

Pirate every time you suggest a player he is a Football Manager signing Our former scout Paul Molesworth used to do the same (Robbie Ryan). I played the game years ago as a kid, it was very detailed. Haven't played it for years though. Speaking to a mate of mine, he reckons Dongou was pretty decent on the game, not that that is a reason to sign him of course.

Newcastle's Ivan Toney is expected to seal a loan switch to Wigan Athletic in the next 24 hours. The Gazette has learned that a deal has been agreed between the clubs and the paperwork for the temporary switch completed. Good signing I reckon. I'd be surprised if he didn't score AT LEAST 15-20 goals for them this year.

An assist and another quality finish here from Schmidt. He's also scored 5 goals in 3 pre-season games. I wonder how much he would cost and whether he would be interested in a move to England? Might be better value than in this country... Another two goals here from yesterday, this time in Saarbrücken's first league game of the season. The second (3.15mins) in particular is a good finish. Looks a good player to me, one who's value in this country will only increase. 6ft 1in, strong, good pace, can score off both feet, decent in the air, good finisher. Another decent finish yesterday to make it 3 goals in 3 games this season. I hope he's one on Brian Dutton's scouting list of "players abroad who could fit into Rovers' side" ©Bristol Post. Maybe Will Dubey could do some analysis? Having watched all his goals/assists for Homburg and Saarbrücken I think he is definitely worth a closer look. Harry Forrester has been told he can leave Rangers again. I reckon he would be ideal for that winger signing we are looking for. As DC said: "There comes a time doesn't there?" about the clubs need to invest on the pitch."That time is now," he added. "You can't stand still when it comes to recruitment and as always in recruiting players - money talks. If you want the best players to play you've got to pay, the budgets now are big."
