Its Friday. Reveiwing the week of tedious topics on forums, ridiculous headlines from our supposed "authorities" I am contemplating how to enjoy a traditional Friday "Lunch" Should I journey into deepest Southwark and visit the club? Fine wines (an enjoyment clearly and very sadly lost on most members of this forum), traditional English fare? A good Port to wash down with? Sadly not quite the same since Peter retired as manager Not sure, perhaps the headlines and images of "Big Dave" threatning to bomb people requires less journey time and more time caressing the glass. On reflection I think I shall stay local and seek out some traditional ales....yes tis the thing to do I feel. What are others contemplating? Sadly, reading most responses on this forum, contemplation is not something that most practice, preferring the banality of an instance response or a mild "scratch" of the surface. The authorities will be delighted, ignorance being the true opiate of the masses. No, I think I shall take the advice of Edgar Allen Poe "Fill with mingled cream and amber, I will drain that glass again. Such hilarious visions clamber Through the chamber of my brain. Quaintest thoughts, queerest fancies Come to life and fade away. What I care how time advances; I am drinking ale today."
Indeed.

Oldie is partaking of queerest fancies.
Heh heh.
If drinking Port is an option then why consider any others?

I am sure Hugo, as one of the more considered members of this forum, you would understand this.

That wasn't my experience in Portugal I have to say.
Port was served with your meal not just as an after dinner drink.
A fine foot pressed Ruby for me, though my taste cannot be met by my income sadly so I only have the mass produced stuff in the cupboard.
And yes, even I can tell the difference between a quality port and a cheap one.
Agree with you that its best served shared with good company or a good book though.

Completely agree. Mine is more of the Edwardian Period

Indeed. Try something new Oldie, particularly important as you near the short day.You know what you like and don't like, grab a handful of that in-between stuff.I'm not suggesting an afternoon spent huffing or a full on session of Parkour, but drag your old ass out of the routine.

What a dreadfully banal suggestion from a one team football supporter. You do realise of course that reality is a temporary illusion brought on by a lack of alcohol...surely?

Tell you what Oldie, I'll drink some of that fine port you hanker for and you can wander down the high street and make a new friend. Wish I was a one team supporter I have been quite the slut on my travels.

Port (a good LBV) is for winners, I don't believe in the white version of said libation.
In days of old, at the latter point of a dinner night, port was consumed whilst smoking a king Edward cigar listening to speeches interspersed with toasts to the monarch, Colonel in Chief et al. Happy days.
Might sample a drop of ale this evening

you need to watch out if you follow on this path it could lead to gout Only for those of a weak genetic inheritance. As a male of West Country origin dating back to the 12th Century my genes have evolved through that environment. As such I am immune to mamby pamby inflammatory problems like gout. Problems like that are due water poor family practices in the past, such as religious adherence to Quaker or Wesleyian philosophy with subsequent terrible consequences. This was confirmed recently when overcoming a problem related to the over use of my Prostate Gland my surgeon informed me I that I had a perfect bladder neck. Evolved, obviously, through generations of cider retention due to the lack of public toilet provision. In particular between Old Market and Stapleton Rd.

Sorry oldie, I thought you'd also respond in verse. Any format would do, but iambic pentameter befits.....
