5000 locked out on the beach I was there, definitely more than 5, at least 10k plus locked out.

I was impressed with the set up down there, nice little ground. We looked ( like most friendlies) to be playing about 60%. No one in particular stood out but thought Sercombe looked busy and got in some good positions.

Bit of a boring game. Not even the cheap cider (bloody thatchers gold), helped. Sercombe (mr triangle) looked good. James Clarke played well at cb. Gaffney stood out in first half. Broom looked very spritely. Olly Clarke looked out of sorts. Not quite steve k report but thats about it in my summary

FIVE trialists in the squad tonight. I like the look of that. I wonder if one up front is a formation we'll see a lot of this season or if DC is just playing it because we've only got two strikers. I think it could work well if the lone striker gets enough support from midfield, something like this: O. Clarke Sinclair Bodin Sercombe Moore Gaffney That is pretty much how we set up tonight. I thought it was a decent workout, typical early pre-season stuff really, a bit disjointed at times but with a few bright moments. Sercombe was pretty lively and probably the standout player of the first half. He got another goal, made several forward runs and generally linked up well with the other midfielders. He seems to have settled in nicely. The trialist lad Broadbent had a steady game at the back too. He's a big unit and didn't look out of place to me. I'd like to see him tested a bit more and play against better players, but he did everything asked of him pretty well. Second half I though the Aussie lad also looked quite comfortable. He looked ok in possession and made one or two interceptions Again, he didn't look out of place. All in all a decent exercise for us. I still think we need extra quality on the left and up front and look forward to seeing who DC has lined up.

Surely DC has the foreign legion of Aquino, Jansen and Schmidt signed up from your wish list? Wait...you mean you're not his chief scout and he hasn't been listening to you?? Must be some mistake...you dig up more interesting names than a lot of the real scouts! ...and you even know their strongest foot which appears to be more than their agents know if DCs recent anecdote about being offered a centre half "right up his street" is anything to go by!

Do we even have a chief scout? In all seriousness this is something I hope the club improve on. DC has even hinted at this in the past saying our recruitment hasn't been good enough. Aquino and Schmidt would be decent signings going on the evidence of the clips I've seen, but it's a good job players aren't signed on the evidence of videos alone, or you would hope not anyway. Hopefully Brian Dutton will help in this regard and we may even soon see an Aquino or Schmidt type signing in the near future.

Does anyone know who the left back who came on second half was? I thought he looked tidy. Set Ellis up for his goal
