It is all about what you are willing to pay to get the player. Whether DC is not willing to pay or the owners I am not sure but we need a goalscorer and quick and if you want a good one you have to pay good money.

"There comes a time doesn't there?" said Clarke about the clubs need to invest on the pitch.
"That time is now," he added.
"We need to kick on with the footballing side of things. If we want to stand still for the next three or four years that's fine. We can build the infrastructure in the background but fans will get frustrated and I'll get frustrated, because we want that drive.
"I've been here three years and we've made a lot money from transfers. We've just finished 10th in League One, we've got to kick on."
With Rovers in the market for a whole raft of new players this summer, Clarke was under no illusions as to how players heads are turned these days.
"Players will go where the money goes. If a player gets offered £500 a week extra somewhere else, he's going somewhere else.
"You can't stand still when it comes to recruitment and as always in recruiting players - money talks. If you want the best players to play you've got to pay, the budgets now are big."

Now looking at it from a FFP point of view you can see who our true competitors are. This is based on average attendances from last season. We have the 9th average attendance for the division. This means that if we have a true 'top six' budget then Weal & co have put in more than at least three other clubs.
18,167 - Bradford 16,823 - Portsmouth 12,688 - Blackburn 11,722 - Wigan 11,162 - Chalton 10,307 - MK Dons 09,783 - Rotherham 09,652 - Plymouth 09,302 - Bristol Rovers 08,294 - Oxford 07,406 - Southend 06,208 - Northampton 06,129 - Gillingham 06,021 - Doncaster 05,581 - Peterborough 05,507 - Shrewsbury 05,072 - Walsall 04,536 - Scunthorpe 04,514 - Oldham 04,477 - Wimbledon 03,845 - Bury 03,556 - Rochdale 03,456 - Blackpool 03,272 - Fleetwood

Pay them enough and they will sign. They can play football in lots of pretty away grounds for as long as we're in a decent league. Besides, I think players would likely rather play in a tatty ground in front of 9k than a new stadium in front of 5k I don't disagree, but we have reached the point that significantly 'better' signings with Championship experience are going to cost a LOT more. Neal Ardley was on the radio earlier and indicated that there had not been a massive difference in player wages from 5th tier to 3rd tier, but as manager of a club with a smaller budget than ours, he said it was nearly impossible to attract players on Championship wages to a L1 club - at least until released players are not able to find anything better. Personally, I'm very happy with the incoming players and feel we have a stronger squad than we started last season with, particularly if 2-3 quality loans are still to come in. In addition, the Mem near capacity is an advantage to us on the field, which evens things up a little. By the way, Ardley rated our chances this season.

Found this tweet on Twitter have to agree think the Mem has hampered our efforts in the transfer market. To be fair mate, the only person who can answer the question in the thread title is DC. And he has. Not sure any of the rest of us are better placed to shed any light

Think you have nailed it topper! For what its worth my prediction after 46 games 1st - Bradford 2nd - MK dons 3rd - Fleetwood 4th - Wigan 5th - Rovers 6th - Blackburn 21st - Oldham 22nd - Oxford 23rd - Scunthorpe 24th - Blackpool

For a start clubs charge different prices for tickets. It's to do with turnover innit? The club with the lowest crowds might be more profitable than a better followed side due to debts or bills.
