Game No 6
Opponents Fleetwood Home Won 3-1
Team Performance Mark out of 10
Slocombe Handled the ball impeccably but for one astonishing error where he left the ball behind in the first half that could have gifted an equaliser.Confident. 7.5
Partington Best game for us so far. Defended very well and set up two goals with wonderful crosses. Let's hope he can get a run of games now 8.5 MOM Lockyer At last gave a complete performance somewhere near his best.Marshalled the defence well and restricted his opponent to few chances 8 Sweeney Still a bit rusty but getting better but should have cleared the ball out of the ground out wide on their goal. Kept a powerful opponent quiet 7.5 Brown Caught out at times but looked a lot happier when Moore came on as Sinclair is not a wide midfielder. Didn't provide as much width as usual 6.5
Bodin Alarm bells will be ringing if we lose him at the death of this transfer market. Superb goal and a constant danger. Keeping him will show intent. 8 O. Clarke Looked exhausted in second half and lost the ball too often Back to old ways but still should have ended up with at least one goal as was clean through 6.5 Sinclair Scored a good goal which was a shock to see him so far forward but hope the injury doesn't mean another long lay off. Competent all action display 7 Sercombe Another good performance. Always in the thick of things but personally think he looks better alongside Lines. Consistent performer 7.5
Gaffney Gave as good as he got. Battled well for the ball and set up Sinclair for the opener. in hindsight him and Ellis together may have unsettled the giants 8 Nicholls Very disappointing performance . Looked too lightweight against huge opponents and just didn't get in the game. Needs more time to settle. 5
Subs Harrison Came off the bench and gave us control of the game in an exciting cameo. Livewire and dominant at both ends.Scored good strikers goal and was unlucky with supern run and shot. 8 Moore Did enough to balance the side with a good work rate and provided the missing width. 6.5 Lines One delightful pass and imposed himself on the game. Maybe the dropping will do him good but we looked far better when he came on 7.5
Crowd Somewhat quiet at times but maybe that is because we have been so noisy away. It is surprising that the numbers have dropped since last season but Fleetwood didn't really help- 6 Ref 5 Average at best Fleetwood 7 Solid unit but boring to watch. Made life very difficult for us but if Rosler thinks they deserved to win then he is as deluded as he is a pain in the bum. I have given a seven as they are good at what they do.
Team performance summed up Worked to a plan very well and won the game tactically- well done DC. Substitutions wrestled back control of the game and result was only in doubt for the 15 minutes after they scored.
Defence summed up Did well against opponents who hustled and bustled. Lockyer and Partington looked better than Brown and Sweeney who got in trouble at times through their own fault
Midfield summed up Played to a set out plan and executed it well. We do need to have a defensive midfielder in there but I would say Lines gives us more quality and need to choose between Ollie Clarke and Sinclair
Attack summed Up Nicholls has not really settled in yet but Gaffney and Harrison are on form and both look the part. Man of Match Partington An all round good performance
DC Must give him a mention as he won the tactical battle with Rosler and all his decisions proved right on the day. This is a very important week for him IMO as he must not allow recent performances to influence incoming players this week. Ollie Clarke looks like he is still feeling the effects of his injury and Sinclairs injury could well expose us lacking in numbers in the midfield if we are going to use three central midfielders and there is a definite lack of quality out wide with Bodin coming inside and I would like to see two wingers come in to strengthen both the team and the squad. With both Lockyer and Sweeney out of the Bradford game it may be worth leaving both on the bench on Tuesday and playing whichever two he decides to play in the middle on Saturday. By doing this he can judge if maybe we need to bring in another strong centre half before the deadline. Oh and just to conclude- Owners show your steel and hold on to Billy!! UTG

UTG I called bring Ellis on for Nichols. Nichols was too lightweight and had little impact on the game and I would have been reluctant to have brought Gaffney off as he was competing for everything up top and causing them problems. Good call by DC.

Terrific summary - Brown was under pressure yesterday and he will know there is a replacement waiting to take his place - we are getting to a stage where every player will know his place is not automatic which has to be a good thing. On the referee - Mr Davies should be booked as a comedian rather than ref as some of his decisions were laughable.

I dont think lines was dropped,i just think dc did what he always does and picked the team based on the game in front of us. I thought brown had his work cut out against the fresh and quick right winger fleetwood brought on but he stuck to his task. I dont think sinclair played wide just as lines didnt when he came on but played in a narrow midfield 3. Agree with the marks for the players roughly.

This isn't aimed just at Stevek but I can't see why so many people thought Sweeney had a good game yesterday. His mistakes were in dangerous areas of the pitch and I thought he had a chance to clear the ball in the build-up to their goal. Lots of wrestling that could have good him booked. Broadbent was unlucky to be dropped after Charlton so it's good he'll get a chance next week with Sweeney away.
Overall, I agree with the rest. It was a good team performance with a few players with claims for MotM.

It cost us a goal against Peterborough, and we lost the ball 4 times in the first half because of it yesterday. Not all his fault coz it's a combo with the midfielder, but it's not working, so he needs to stop doing it.

I'm not sure I can agree about it being good Broadbent will get a chance though, in what will be a tough game against Bradford away with Lockyer also out. Hopefully we experiment with CB's vs Wycombe, would make sense.

Any news on when James Clarke or Leadbitter are likely to return? I think Partington could also be a contender to play alongside Broadbent if there is any other right back option. DC, for whatever reason, has seemed reluctant to play Burn, but then again if he comes in and does well then it would be another big boost to the squad.

If you want Rovers to get promoted, then we need our back players to play short, medium and long passes - midfielders/forwards also prefer them on the deck. Sweeney, apart from a couple of clangers, passed well. I'd still say he's a better passer of the ball than Lockyer or Brown because he makes more accurate forward passes to team mates than the other two.

I think if Billy is allowed to leave this week we will know the Club has neither ambition or a base level of funds .... it would be the biggest slap in the face to all fans and would suggest Wael is no better than the previous regime.
Throw in to the mix that if it is a last day, last second decision and we are handed the same old victim statement of 'no time to replace or no need to replace ' I actually think I might rip up my season ticket in disgust. Surely DC won't allow it though .... would he?

Someone like M'boro or Derby - they probably have the funds.

Ideally we would tie him down on a new contract and recoup a decent fee if a higher division club comes in for him. I'd never want to stand in the way of a player bettering himself, but to lose him on a free would be hard to take.

Spot on Steve.
Through the ref was awful, should have booked Bodin for clattering their player with a high foot and then failed to give a penalty for an obvious handball in their box.
Three points is all that matters though!

If you want Rovers to get promoted, then we need our back players to play short, medium and long passes - midfielders/forwards also prefer them on the deck. Sure, but we can't just roll it up to some bloke on the halfway line who is being marked, who then tries to turn upfield. We obviously need something a bit more creative than that.
