Used to love it when the chant was sung with the first verse, making the promise. It now seems to be the only chant that gets sung and only the chorus. I never thought it but it does my head in a bit now It does start getting a tad tedious after the 8th time in the first half... Liverpool sing ynwa at the beginning, and the last minute, that it. Not over 20 times like we do. That's becuase the time in between that, they are all out robbing cars. I prefer Gas go marching in starting really slowly and building, that becomes much louder than Irene most of the time.

Harry Buckle posted the words to this New Radicals 1998 song on the other Forum a few days ago and it is real easy to sing as half of the following is on one note.
You've got the Gas'ead in you. don't let go. You've got the Rovers in you. One chance left. The Gas are gonna pull through. Don't give up. You've got a reason to win. Can't forget. We're only at the begin. (repeat)
Possibly one of my most hated pieces of pop noise ever! My ears would bleed! Interesting, would say it was their only good song, have always liked it. Is it The Wurzels for you Somerset ?

I'm not an ITK but Wael will only build us a new stadium if we could produce some new songs. I read recently he didn't know all of the words to Goodnight Irene. How many of our fans actually know all the words to Irene? nah but were lucky it's only 5 letters not words

Am I the only one who thought of Kiki Dee when I saw the thread title?

I hate that song. I think we nicked it from Southampton who sing it great but we speed up way to fast and it just sounds sh**e at the end ~ and at the beginning ~ it's a no from me

Jesus, no wonder we don't divert from Goodnight Irene much if this is the best we can do! Just say we had never sung GI and I posted the lyrics on the Forum suggesting it might be a good song for the Fans to sing. It would be derided as a joke by the majority of Posters. Really this thread just highlights that we sing GI much too often and cannot be bothered to sing a couple of verses. Players who have been at the Club for a good few years such as Ellis, Tom Lockyer and Lee Brown might just be sick of hearing it so often, maybe wishing that we could come up with some good songs that other Club Fans don't sing. We mostly copy what others have sung. We would like our Team to come up with some good consistent Football as against Wolves, so don't you think the Team might be delighted to have us sing some new songs to fire them up? Goodnight Irene is part of our heritage but it has been diluted and in my view is in danger of losing it's impact. I would urge that Posters who think they might have a good song is to post it without fear of a bad (Blackbeard comes to mind) reaction because one day someone will come up with a gem.

I despise the dirge like start of " when the saints go marching in " that's the fashion these days. Typically with rovers songs that go on they evolve to hyperdrive speed come the end. Becoming a random collection of noise. If you are going to sing it do it at the proper tempo and don't just COPY other clubs...lame.
Irene needs to be learned by people purporting to be Rovers fans and sang in full on the 56th minute mark. (celebrating the clubs best average home attendances and league placing 1956)

Am I the only one who thought of Kiki Dee when I saw the thread title? No you're not. And the lyrics are really apt for our recent history..... I go up (I go up), I go down (I go down) etc., catch a hold of my blues and just play them.

We need a good old fashion hymn, like Swansea, Think we should sing Amazing Grace, changing it to Amazing Gas,
Amazing GAS How sweet the sound That saved a wretch like me I once was lost, but now I'm found Was blind, but now I see 'Twas GAS that taught my heart to fear And GAS my fears relieved How precious did that GAS appear The hour I first believed
I've been set free

Still gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. Great song, unique to us. We should cherish it. Other team's fans are always impressed by it.

Don't let me stop you sunshine you proudly belt your tune out , just don't let your ice cream hit your forehead in the middle off it Thank you Music director, I look forward to your attempt at a song. Unlike you I don't dictate what is permissible and what is not. I just post suggestions like others do on this Forum.
