load of rubbish,he's been a weak link in midfield most the season,so easy to beat and doesn't chase after a man that's just beaten him As soon as sercombe came on with his energy it changed the game,dc is too loyal to some players Sercombe didnt replace clarke though? who said he did

It sounds weird saying this after a 3-1 win but the performance was poor; dont get me wrong the win is the main thing here. I haven't been in the country enough to see that many games this season, but what has happened to the neat passing game we used to have? I was quite impressed with Blackpool; they passed the ball well, had strength and pace down the wings taking on our full backs and (until the end) looked strong at the back. Their lad Vassell is exactly the type of player we could do with here. |We tried to over complicate things and a lot of passes went straight to a pool player. Too many times in the first half we backed off and gave them too much space, O.Clarke may as well not been on the pitch and we seemed to panic when they got around our box. Milds should be coaching Slocombe how to keep his kicks on the pitch as almost every other one seemed to go for an opposition throw needlessly. I have given Moore a lot of stick but I thought he was one of the better players in the first half and was one of the few that actually looked to take on his opponent. Also credit to Harrison, worked really hard today and tracked back a number of times as well as getting his goal. I agree with the OP I dont know how we won that, but that doesnt matter as winning whilst not playing that well is surely a good sign. Also does the pitch need that much watering? it doesnt look very good as it is without flooding it!! spot on,I've said that every game I've seen the midfield have been sliced apart and passed around too easy Lazy Clarke in midfield,a shadow of the player he was before injury last season he plays like someone in their last season before retiring

With him in our team, or someone like him I think we could push for at least a play off place. Also Nichols looks like a lost little boy on that pitch, comes too deep and doesnt have any impact in the final third to be an asset.

Good performance from tom nichols after a dodgy first 15 minutes, coming deep and playing some nice passes as well as whipping some decent crosses in. I think people were expecting an out and out striker which he isnt, hes more of a "false 9" or a link player floating between midfield and striker or strikers. Good technique and quick feet,i think it works against him that we didnt sign a play off the shoulder striker because people want him to be that type of player but hes not. I reckon he will prove himself as a very good signing.

Surely a striker who does not score goals (and doesnt even look like scoring) is failing? This lad looks like a 15 year old playing against men.

Reminds me of Luke James to be honest , not a bad footballer some good touches and control of the ball but too lightweight drifts out of the game for large spells and hardly ever looks like scoring.

I cant seem to reply to "last minute wins" or "socrates" but i think luke james was trying his best to be an out and out striker but thats not tom nichols game at all, like i said before hes a "false 9" a striker that comes deep and creates space which should suit billy bodin and liam sercombe and has at times. I also think he will chip in with his share of goals. Hes quite quick skillful and i believe he will be a good asset for the team. People need to remember were shopping at poundland or aldi not waitrose or m&s. Until we can get good development players coming through somehow at our dogsh** training facilities we just need to try and consolidate.

Got my Tin Hat on ready, but I thought the ref had a pretty decent game, thought all yellow cards were justified, maybe apart from Telford who had just come on and his first offence. Game of opinions I suppose. Nobody was mentioning the officials once Ellis scored. I deliberately don't talk about them because I remember how sh**e they were in the conference year. I'm sure some decisions that were marginal went against us, but there's no bias and we'd have been bellowing for some fouls were roles reversed.

Nichols is a striker, he comes deep and passes backwards or sideways and leaves one man less up top where he should be. We have midfielders to link midfielders with the strikers. Gaffers should start with Ellis, he may not jump for headers but he has much more of an impact than Nichols has shown so far.

Probably the worst game I've seen us play for ages. That first half Blackpool should have been out of site. Every player were off their game, we didn't have any height, think Lines was our tallest player till Sweeney came on. A very lucky 3 points IMO! For all the ball they had first half they had pretty much one shot

How can you say the yellows were justified and Telford's shouldn't hve been?! The Telford challenge was awful. Sweeney should have had a yellow too when their player was through. Partington. Reckless lunge after poor control. May have been lucky to stay on. Lines . Totting up easily could have been booked twice before he received the card, two deliberate trips when never getting the ball. Broadbent . Knew what he was doing.didnt give the ref any option Moore. Dived . Telford. Thought he might of got away with Strikers tackle after just coming on, not an excuse or reason but does sometimes happen. You can justify the yellows, what cant be justified is the same wasnt applied to Blackpool

I reckon he will prove himself as a very good signing. But don't you think we needed a 'play off the shoulder' striker than a 'false 9'? The first few few games I was impressed with toms movement, very much like when Matty Taylor first played for us. But where as MTs movement got him into scoring positions, TNs movement gets him in space 35 yards from goal and nothing comes of it. I think you're right it counts against him being this type of player. Unfortunately strikers are are judged on goals and he doesn't look like contributing too much. He rarely gets into scoring positions which suggests he will continue to struggle to score. The one good thing is BB and Harrison/gaffney look like being able to score 20 goals each.

That was a real positive on the pitch yesterday. Not playing particulatly well but winning against arguably one of the better teams in the league. The worry is that the squad is lean and there are probably at least 3 maybe 4 players in the first team squad that are not playing particulatly well. Add to that - long term injuries - Sinclair still ? and James Clarke and with potential international call ups we are bare bones. The bonuses are certainly Bola and Broadbent and I thought until yesterday Partington, although arguably he could have been at fault for the goal at Wolves as well.

Bit of an over reaction op, we out played them for the last 60 mins.
Not a polished performance but most of the the lads are looking very fit now, Blackpool were knackered in the final 10 mins.
DC still learning his trade with us so happy with the win but not gonna get carried away.

Felt hare and tortoise to me in hindsight as Blackpool really faded after a very bright start. We kept going. Sweeney looked really sharp again as did Lines. Ellis looked like he was gonna drop before he scored so being able to keep composure for that goal when he could hardly stand was great. Not sure our striker should need to keep running the length of the pitch (for another debate!), but glad he did. I do find it odd when we dont come out all guns blazing at home as is very frustrating to watch, but at times feels like it may be deliberate

57% Possession 16 Shots to their 11 7 On Target to their 3
We started slowly but after the first 30 minutes and particularly in the second half we were the better team and deserved the win in the end.

Let's face it, fitness has been one of our major pluses over the last few years and has taken us a long way.
It is very pleasing that after multiple sendings off, extra time on Tuesday, a longer injury list than we've had for years and 9 games played in the last month, we outlasted a decent side.
I feared the worst yesterday but we came through well. Tuesday is a very tough test again and it will be very interesting to see how we come through. For comparison, by the way, Pompey have played 6 games in the same time we have played 9, with no extra time.
