So, Wembley was host to another NFL match, but this time politics spilled over into sports.
Over 20 players and staff from Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars bent the knee (not to be knighted) in protest of Donald Trump's 'challenge' of getting players who do this sacked or suspended.
I enjoy politics, but when it comes to sport I feel it's unnecessary for multi-million $/£ players to protest against a country which has allowed them to get that far in life. The same goes to Hollywood and their collective group-think.
I find that culturally British follow closely to Americans, and it concerns me that we'll see something similar in the UK, in one of the few areas of life where people want to get away from politics.
Any other thoughts?

It was always thus. I expect that if you went back to the original Olympic games, politics came into it. However, I do think that it would help matters, if Donald Trump could keep his mouth shut more. The American police have always enjoyed shooting black people. They did under the previous president, and there were none of these protests.

I'm sure there have been plenty of examples of politics in sport, but I can't think of a time where such protests have gone on for over a year. I agree with you about Donald Trump, his excessive use of Twitter for example does not help matters in most cases. I disagree with your comment about the police, but also about there being no protests under the previous president. The NFL 'bending the knee' started under the Obama era with Colin Kaepernick, which was a response to the race riots / police shootings. The only thing I can think of that comes close to this in the UK is Jeremy Corbyn not singing the national anthem - which if I recall wasn't a protest as such. Regardless, I hope we can keep this part of American culture away from UK sport - it's divisive and unnecessary.

It's been around a long time.
Jesse Owens is the most obvious example but I'm sure there are more.

Yes and I also recall that South Africa were ostracized in the 80s because of their apartheid laws.

Israel's (and US) treatment of Palestine is a discrace, however there is not a world wide Jew conspiracy. Just my opinion, but you appear anti-Semitic which is surprising because you clearly are able to research and understand a lot of subjects.
(Not a moderation comment btw)

There is a big difference between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism. Zionism is a racist, supremacist political ideology and if anything, is anti-semitic itself. The Palestinian people are a semitic people.

He needs a cause to espouse, to help justify his life to himself, and the Palestinians are the left wing cause de nos jours. As is almost always the case, the left are backing the wrong horse. As the years go by, people will no longer remember ( let alone care ) who the land once belonged to. Not saying it`s right, just the way it is.

I'd take a look in the mirror mate.

I`m not backing anybody. Personally, I`d bang both their heads together until they came to some arrangement. But constantly picking on the oldest Aunt Sallys in history, does you no credit. Still, you obviously have fun, cutting and pasting all those articles.
