It's quite simple really, if you don't want telling off don't make comments that are controversial.
The most simple way of deciding if his comment was acceptable is to decide if you think it's a comment he would make to the gentlemen he was commenting on's face.....probably not becuse he knows the difference between right and wrong.
Not saying he's a racist but the comment made isn't acceptable and he deserves a warning if he wants to act like a child and leave that's up to him

The thread started to discuss the locking of threads has this morning been removed. It transpires that various mods privately discussed Gashead Gaz's post on the locked "Ian Holtbygate" thread, then sent him a PM admonishing him for what could only ever be considered a mildly offensive comment. Understandably upset by that GG has deleted his membership of this forum. What I find to be reprehensible is that the mods let the thread run all day. I had a feeling we weren't being told the whole story, but I didn't want to directly confront the mods as a direct question would be easy to deny outright. Instead I nibbled and teased and eventually the mods fronted up as to what happened. Once again, and because there is a suggestion of racism involved, no action was taken against the poster who called GG "Vile Racist Scum" I even read one mod giving the excuse that that person is a "Drive-by WUM"! That obviously makes it OK then. Just as long as you develop a reputation of being a good old guy you can abuse other posters with impunity. I don't want to get involved in another long discussion about this, I felt that GG had been badly treated and to some extent let down by those tasked with "Policing" the forum. Neither do I think the mods job is an easy one, but it is vital they are even - handed and show fairness when dealing with situations. I don't think on this occasion they were. I have nothing more to say on the matter. I will be rooting for our team tonight. I got to a point where I had had enough and it was me that requested we appoint new moderators as to be perfectly honest I had just stopped bothering because I was and still am sick and fed up with the way the vast majority of threads get ruined by people. The intention was to strengthen the moderation and to help the situation. 9)in the past I have always tried to be as fair as possible when moderating and frankly that's been to my detriment. I was too fair and I also allowed a culture of disrespect of the moderation team to creep in and because I was starting to feel burnt out I outright stopped all moderation. As a result the forum as a whole suffered because of that. This whole situation has arisen due to my own inaction and I accept full responsibility for it. 10)The new mods have stepped forward and are finding their feet. They too have to make the difficult transition from poster to moderator and I think that they are doing a good job but you have to expect there will be mistakes along the way. 11)This forum has never been more difficult than it is at the moment and it feels like every little thing we do or say is being publicly picked apart. I have already missed most of the first half of tonight's game because I've been typing this post instead of enjoying the match thread. I would again appeal to everyone to please help us and moderate yourselves a bit better. I like you as a poster Oldgas, I really do, but constantly dragging up these issues with yet another thread is making things worse not better. I would have been more than happy to have discussed this in pm with you. I would also like to ask some of the posters who enjoy flaming and stirring up by constantly making reference to race/gender/politics/PC/far right/looney left to just drop it. It's not funny and it's not helpful. It's killing the forum. If you decide not to that's your right, but be prepared for more people to walk away from this little Bristol Rovers community. Please, let's just stick to the football. |

I wasn't using WUM as an excuse, iirc you said something like he was typical of political correctness, and I replied something like this has nothing to do with pc, the bloke's a WUM. So you've definitely misrepresented me there. "Chewbacca wasn't PC, almost however you define it, he's a drive-by WUM." Perhaps you should start a new thread in General Chat rather than replying to his post? |
