Surely it's more to do with who's playing who.
Why would anybody be supporting the Irish against Wales?

Why does having pride in your Country mean you feel the need to wish ill on others? Welsh footballers have contributed hugely to the Gas over the years so why all this hostility to the Welsh? Simply don't understand the logic in saying love and pride in your own country justifies or necessitates wishing ill to Welsh football team. That my view and I won't post again on this issue. Do you wish the 82ers well every game too? I'll support the home nations when they support us. Until then I will reciprocate their sporting hatred of us. You've not taken in a word I've written. I really do despair.

I think we have good reason to not wish the sh*t well, the catologue of why is well know to us all. I cannot see what the Welsh have done to deserve the hatred toward their national team you advocate. Hatred without reason is not good and even with reason can be damaging. Promise no more posts on this issue.

I really do despair. It's sport. It's supposed to be fun, entertainment for the masses. It is, by its very design, supposed to be bi-partisan where the whole point is that 2 teams agree to disagree for 90 mins over a sporting event. That doesn't mean you hate the other countries. It's just fun rivalry. If some people had their way football will turn into a bunch of chinless wonders who all give a jolly round of applause every time the opposition score against us!! I'm perfectly capable of separating enjoying a rival team losing a game and respecting and admiring them as a nation. In my opinion the way so many English people want the home nations to do well is patronising. The greatest sporting respect you can give an opposing country is to treat them as a genuine rival. Again, I will support the home nations when they support us. Until then it's a FUN rivalry.

Lmfao. Ellis called Lines an old man a few days ago, maybe we should ask him not to be so mean to poor little Chrissy!! He also said Gaffers was thick. OMG, fetch the stocks!! Jesus wept. It's funny. On a personal level I'm proud of every player that's represented his country. It's an amazing achievement. I'd also be pleased for them if they'd won something. That still allows room for some playful water taking of national teams results.

GGMI makes a good point, the english press are usually out to vilify rather than support. That said, we are nowhere near good enough, we never pick form players, we are happy to play players out of position constantly, we don't have our own footballing philosophy (look at the German team for example of that), we have a manager that didn't really want the job, we have a manager that can't really do the job, and the FA which created this monster are focusing on all the wrong areas to improve it. It's the presses dream really. I f**king hate the media at times, they are scum. They will always hide behind "it sells papers" etc to justify their scummy actions but what happened to morals? Big Sam for example, he was entrapped by the media and set up to fail. Yes he didn't help himself but the media were 10 times worse. Totally agree with you all media are scum

I thought it was funnier that the Jocks went out myself. How you feeling Big Jock? i'm fine Marshy my ol friend. lets be honest if wees wanted to get through we wouldnae have appointed the ginger cunnt. Go on, just think for a minute, your team is chosen and trained by Gordon StrapOn and Mark McGoo. Even i find it hilarious Strapon sacked Big Jock! I take it that Mc Goo will be gone with him? Let's hope they don't come calling for DC.

the home nations never wanna see England do well. Sod em, never forget the Welsh team celebrating us getting knocked out by Iceland. Imagine if the England squad did that, it would be all over the media "arrogant English disrespectful to home nations" or "England football team makes a mockery of British unity". The day I wanna see Wales do well will be the day they cheer for us but that will never happen. 'Little Englander' attitudes - no wonder we are so loved and respected in the world. That said, researchers have found that people with low self-esteem are more likely to feel schadenfreude than are people who have high self-esteem. not at all, I live in Wales and see first hand their absolute disdain for anywhere, anyone and anything English.

not at all, I live in Wales and see first hand their absolute disdain for anywhere, anyone and anything English. That's a real shame and really does not match my experience after 30 years also living in South Wales did you go through school in wales I've lived in Merthyr since the age of 13. IMO the Welsh have two faces, if you have an English accent they generally don't say derogatory stuff to you or about england around you, now I have a strong Welsh accent and that's where their true colours really show. Even my father in law said to me 'thank god you're not english' when I first met him, imagine the awkward conversation that followed. Iv had conversation after conversation about rugby to randomers which include 'well I hope we beat those dirty English c#nts'. In the end I stopped mentioning my nationality just so it wasn't awkward. I've been to all of the home nations and generally I find the welsh to be the most bigoted towards the English. Scottish rangers fans were a good crack and so were Northern Ireland football fans. Welsh not British is the motto around my parts.
