I think the issue with Montano was that his contract was up & Moore's wasn't. I genuinely believe if Moore had been out of contract we'd have kept Montano. I doubt he'd have been a regular started but would certainly have been a better option from the bench.

I don't think Montano was great, but ok. He just looks better not being here because we don't have any real options in his position

I think Montano would have been a better choice to keep on than Moore, but tbh this is all pie in the sky. We've seen from this year some very good players on their day go to pot on the reg.
Loved the signing of Liam Sercombe, and i think Broadbent and Menayese were absolute steals as triallists. Nichols time will come hopefully. In terms of outfield I think on paper the first XI team is stronger now than the end of last year, but even more depth has been lost.
Genuinely think the only change in retrospect is Lumley (or spend money on a similarly talented keeper). The goalkeeper and the CB's have such a close relationship in football and I think neither Slocombe or Smith have the same chemistry or quality. This is especially important given how young our defence is, on average.
Think we panic bought a little bit when they realised there were no permanent contracted first team keepers.

I wouldn't say we weren't shrewd enough or let Lumley slip through our fingers. I suspect it was never a possibility from day one, the fee may have been well out of our reach, QPR may have had no interest in selling, his wages may have been well in excess of what we could budget for and Lumley himself may have never fancied a permanent drop to league one. I'm sure DC would have liked him, everyone would, but we'd all like Ronaldo and Messi too and that ain't happening either.
Did Boateng get subbed at HT away to the Shrews last year and the GPS backed up DC in that showed he barely broke in to a jog? I believe he's now in league two so I'd say we dodged a bulllet there rather than let one through our fingers.
don't get the love in with Monty. No doubt a talent but so inconsistent. Is he not now struggling in league two? If we'd bought in a half decent winger in the summer people would even struggle to remember who Monty is now. Wouldn't have him back now even if it was on a voluntary basis.
With Taylor this subject was done to death at the time. We had no choice but to allow the get out clause or he'd have not signed and left on a free a few months later anyway. We can't force anyone to stay against their will beyond a current contract so again not really one that slipped through our fingers

I don't think they were panic buys

I wouldn't disagree with that, certainly the current lack of width is going to reflect more positively on Montano. Not sure if Moore is fit but if he is the fact Broom was picked ahead of him on Sat might indicate how DC sees his wide options come Jan.

Probably more about who we didn’t recruit rather than who we didn’t keep. We move on and trust in DC to recruit what we need. UTG!

We also have a problem in the penalty taking department, (not that we’ve had one for a bit!) Browner used to take them, personally I would give the task back to him as everyone else seems to have gone to pot! Bodin should take them if on the pitch, Browner missed two on the trot and stopped taking them if memory serves.

Yes I agree that Bodin should take them, I didn’t realise that Browner had missed a couple? Oh well that’s another one off the list then! I’ve got this feeling that we will get one on Saturday and I hope that Bodin is still on the pitch or Smith might be taking it.

Am I the only person who thinks Lee Brown is not appreciated enough? A loyal, stayed with us after relegation to the conference and a hard working member of the team, an ever present in two promotions. Appreciated by me but struggling in L1.

A loyal, stayed with us after relegation to the conference and a hard working member of the team, an ever present in two promotions. Was he loyal? Or was it nobody else wanted him? He is hardworking and played a part in 2 promotions, yes, but to improve you need better players. Like others in this squad they were good Conference players, decent League 2 ones, but are being found out in League One. In Football you cant stand still Pretty sure Brown was loyal, or at least didn't want to leave the Bristol area, given without his goal we'd probably still be a Div 2 side I'd put him up there with Rammel in the hero status. Defensively we concede few goals down our left side compared to our right plus Brown is also supplies the assists for more goals than anybody bar Lines. He's good enough for a mid table Div 1 side and that's probably the best we'll be for a few seasons. Goalie wise it's a mystery why we signed Smith considering how many goals we put past him last season, surely there's better out there, the 6'6" goalie from Scunthorpe we had looked far better, Araron Chapman?
