Still think there’s a good player in there somewhere. Whether we’ll see that player at Rovers or not is another matter.
I think for the sake of his confidence, he needed to hit the ground running when he joined and get amongst the goals straight away. I reckon his confidence was fairly low after his spell at Peterborough, and going so long without scoring for us can’t have helped.
IMO it might take a loan to a L2 club to hopefully help him re-find his scoring boots.
Playing (for the majority of the season) in a system he’s not suited to with poor service (by what he needs) won’t have helped, though.

Interesting in highlights how Brown didn't stop wide players crossing the ball or getting close to them - you look at his team mates and no-one says a word to him afterwards - there are no leaders and little confidence amongst the players to gee each other up ! One consequence of us playing so 'tight' with no genuine wide men is that the opposition always has acres of room on either flank. In every match they are able to play long balls out to the wing and the receiving player has time to tighten his laces and pull up his socks before any of our players arrive.

Perhaps next season is his time.
Seems like only 6 months ago people were still questioning Ellis' apparent laziness and not putting himself about etc

Cut our losses and get rid of him if we can in the January window. Adds nothing to the side & at half time yesterday was given 1/10 by Gasheads around me! If you think Nichols is the problem then you're in for a shock when we sell him and replace him for someone who will get the same criticism because as someone has pointed out the forwards aren't the problem, its the service they are being given.
Bodin had 2/3 men marking him yesterday at a time, and Walsall could afford to do this because our left side going forward is something that Patchway Town wouldn't want to be associated with.
The lack of width and creativity on the wing is appalling and means we are always trying to create chances down what is already a packed middle.
I honestly can't believe people are looking past this and trying to scapegoat one new player.
I agree the forwards are not the problem as Ellis, Rory & Billy have a decent goal return. However Tom has without doubt been a massive disappointment and never looks like causing the opposition a problem let alone score a goal. He doesn’t put in a shift like Ellis or Rory & he hasn’t got Billy’s skills - sadly I don’t know what he has got but I’m sure The Posh laughed their stock off when we came in with such a ridiculous offer. Yesterday with Billy being marked by 2/3 defenders it should have left room for Tom to look lively but he was never in the game & the one chance he got he made a half hearted attempt at. A very very poor signing.

We’ve scored loads of goals though and we create loads of chances and he himself has had plenty of chances too so I don’t really buy the poor service thing. There obviously is a decent player there if he scored 13 last season but I think Rory’s movement is better he’s stronger, he’s quicker and his conversion rate is better. I actually can’t think of one attribute where Nichols is better than Gaffney.

Is it just a mere coincidence that two similar players in Luke James and Tom Nichols both completely fail to hit the net no matter how many games they get ? Both with good ball skills and work rate. Both coming off of good transfers being paid for them over time. Sounds perhaps that either they are the wrong style of player for the way the club plays , or the club do not play to utilise them to their best potential. Or the players around them are not good enough to deliver the right kind of balls. Or that two skilful players are both rubbish ? Or maybe they both tried being team players when in fact they should be more selfish . Something Rickie Lambert mentioned when interviewed recently. Some fair points but not sure if 'good transfers' means anything. A lot of clubs make it part of their ethos to take gambles on young players - some work, some don't. Not sure if having money paid for you is much of an indicator of CURRENT use to any team. I just checked on Matt Grimes, and it's not good
