Thought this deserves it'a own thread. So the January transfer market is open shortly and reports that Preston were watching Billy Bodin yesterday at Oldham. Will Bodin stay and go in the summer or will he go in Jan? All is to be revealed!

Pay him £100 000 to sign a new 3 year deal then get a million for him in the summer, We lost the snake due to a stupid clause, don’t mind us selling players but get their true value FFS, Geoff Dunford would never have let us get done over like we are. Billy was going nowhere when he came to us, please show some loyalty. The alleged price of 200k is a joke, we paid more than that for a non scoring forward😄

He's our only real threat up front and will keep us mid table. If he goes then I can see us sinking slowly into the mire.

For some reason we rarely seem to get top dollar for our best players. I see others going for silly money from similar situations to ours, but we seem to consistently get done over!

UTG Devante Cole, Lyle Taylor, Christian Doidge we could not get one of them in as a replacement if the reported fee of 200k is correct.

I think best case is that he leaves for a free in June.
Great player but he’s clearly been offered the best deal we’re prepared to. He’s not signed it. Generally, I wouldn’t sell first team players in Jan.
I would be more inclined to listen to ‘player swap’ offers. But these are even trickier as would involve championship clubs buying out current contracts.
To note signings are so difficult to make. There weren’t many that wouldn’t have sign Miller on here last Jan. But he’s struggling. Wheeler was a name that kept cropping up. Struggling albeit at a higher level. Goodden - struggling. Keep the gems we have.

He stays we stay up, he goes and we’re in danger. We aren’t going to get much in a January transfer window when he will be free in 5 months time. What we would get would never cover the potential cost and loss of relegation so I think we won’t sell. He’ll go for free in the Summer and we build again. UTG!

Rovers have already turned down a Preston bid, understand it was more than we got for Taylor. £350 000?

I agree completely with your analysis of the situation, however if a decent offer comes in and he wants to go he’ll be gone. It’s just modern football. He could have a bad run or get injured before the end of the season and then his stock will fall. From his point of view if someone comes in who will pay him 5-10k a week there’s only one way that’s going to go. UTG

Thanks for that, didn’t know and I’m a bit surprised was the bid during the last window or in preparation for this one? PNE have spent sod all so far so they may have money available and are in with a shout after playing well. I guess January will tell us a lot about the owners intentions. UTG!

And when you look at it the way you’ve done it makes it a much more likely scenario. I was hoping that someone connected with Rovers might take a more strategic view of the situation. But I forgot, it’s Rovers we’re talking about! 😭 UTG!

Good thread.
Snake left far too cheaply and I don’t know who set the buy clause so low but it was ridiculous.
For all of GD and Higgs failings they always got a good deal for selling our players. I know when we sold Lambert it had lots of add ons for future sale, goals scored, promotion and England appearances plus a good lump sum up front.
Absolute niavity by the new board to let Taylor go for nothing. Hope we up our game.
BBB will be gone Jan without a doubt.

I thought Cardiff was already agreed? Goes to show the rubbish that gets spouted about. I’ll just wait and see, what else can we do.

I was told that PNE and Blackburn have been looking at Ellis not B.B.

We we can only hope there are 2/3 clubs in for him - but IMO he'll be definitely gone - probably this week

I think we either take the £300 - £500k we would probably get for him now or we tell his agent he isn't going anywhere for less than £1m & he walks in June. It's about time Wael showed some of the financial strength, the owners supposedly has, and tell him he is seeing out his contract, if BB has any loyalty to DC he will do that, and if he plays to his potential, we stay up & he gets a nice signing on fee somewhere in the summer.

IMO he’ll be off this month - and what a shame, cos he’s the only bit of stardust we have in our team that makes it one worth watching.
We’ll need x2 wingers in if he does go, as well as a CB and CDM for me.

BBC reported that Rangers turned down a £1m bid from Preston for Josh Windass. PNE said they will not be pursuing their interest.......

Give the new owners a break as how could they renegotiate a deal already agreed by the old board? We let Taylor go cheaply simply because NH didn't offer him a decent contract when we returned to Div 2. As far as BB only he knows whether he wants to stay or go if a decent offer comes in, given he still lives locally I wonder if he'll want to stay in the south, as personally I wouldn't see much attraction in living in Preston if was him.

We need two wingers even if Bodin stays because we have no width whatsoever . At least if we get two in then we cover the Bodin leaving situation but also open the door for Broom/ Moore to leave either on loan or permanently.
