Nicholls will only come to the fore if we sign the replacement we should have brought in when Lambert went, and have failed to since. Namely a big strong tall striker whom he can feed off, just like he did at Posh. Still waiting Dinsdale Which big striker was that at Peterborough? He got the majority of his goals and assists playing with 5ft7in Paul Taylor and 5ft 11in Shaquile Coulthirst. Gaffney is 6ft and Harrison is 5ft 11in.

He said he prefers to play off a big man, when he signed. Think he is more suited to playing in a 442 formation, but not necessarily off of a big man. If we finally sign some wingers, we can then see if he's good enough.

Some people will always try to find excuses for certain types of player. Remember when we had Wayne "play him in the hole" Brown just because he came from a (then) Premiershite club who offered him a new contract?? The fact is we have paid a lot of money (for Rovers) and he had hardly given us anything back on our investment. Bodin, Gaffers and Harrison have both scored regularly in the same team....why not Nichols?

I hope he comes good eventually, but 1 goal in 24 league appearances for us so far tells it's own story.

I know quite a few of the Exeter City staff and they rave about Nichols so it took them by surprise that I said he had been woeful for us. He is like another Luke James except we parted with a lot of money for Nichols, money which could have been better spent on other areas.

I've said before I think he looks quite tidy in possession, but not tidy enough to be splashing out £350,000, although obviously the fee isn't his fault. I suppose he is still only 24 and with plenty of time to improve and I'm clinging on to the fact it took Jason Roberts a while to get going with us. Good luck to the lad, I hope eventually he will come good and find his scoring boots like Roberts did.

I think gaffney is very possible as are any players with 6 months left on their contracts who are wanted by other clubs. For rory a 2 year deal at motherwell would give him security in the medium term. I think ellis is bound to be targeted as well as bodin.

I bet we can pay better wages than Motherwell if it came to it. The reported average wage for a player in the Scottish Prem in 2016 was £2,825-per-week, including the larger salaries at Celtic and Rangers which would bump the average up. The average for Motherwell is just over £1,000 p/w. We average about 3,000 more fans than them and the standard of the league is also poor.

He looked excellent for Exeter, he has not missed loads of chances for us, just don’t think we have played to his strengths, I think he will come good as you can’t fault his technical skills, how he beat that defender yesterday in the first half was outstanding.

He looked good for Exeter because they play football on the ground. We haven't really done that this season and he has struggled. Thought he was good without being outstanding yesterday. As some have said, he gave the ball away a few times, but so did Billy, so did Gaffney, so did Partington... They are league one players.- it's going to happen. I like him and I hope we see more from him in the 2nd half of the season.

I’d argue first 10 or so games- he did miss chances. And when that first one came, it looked as if plenty would follow. Recently, he’s not quite threatened to score as before. Which is concerning. I retain confidence that he’s a useful player. Needs to make life easier for himself and get in that box more often, even when played wide.

I don't like letting our best players get within 6 months of their contracts ending. Maybe we have to reassess how we are doing things. When we were in the conference, we were only offering 1 year contracts. This was very successful at the time but I fear it could now be the start of our downfall. We have the right manager so why not back his signings and give players longer contracts. We will sign a few duds but all it takes is signing that one player that hits it off and we could be raking it in. How much would Bodin be worth now if he had 2 or 3 years left on his contract for example? How much will Peterborough get for Marriott? There is so much money in football now that maybe this is the way to be going about things more. Luton got about £2.5mil for Gray. Oxford £3.5 for Roofe etc.
It is a hard medium to get right with where we are at to be fair but if we carry on as we are then we are going to lose our best players for nothing and just stagnate or maybe worse if we struggle to replace those players successfully.

Nicholls was awful and Billy ran the show i didnt think Bodin was that good today. Had a couple of chances to get shots away but took too many touches imo opposition have him sussed now - just steer him away from goal

Portsmouth just made sure they had players surrounding him when he got on the ball. Doubt him at your peril.

He needs to be on the right , I can understand why he’s been given a free role, to make more space but I still think he’s better if he sticks to the right until he’s got the ball.

Was I not DC that kept them hungry on short term contracts when we were in the conference. But I agree we should be giving out slightly longer, we wouldn't have been in the same position with the snake would we, he had over a barrel with the contract and release clause.

I swear every month we talk about Nicholls, his transfer fee increased.
Or maybe that's footballers in general - if they're great players, the price lowers. If they don't live up to expectation - the price increases...
