Very much so and the crowd sang "Chrissy Lines he's one of our own..." Don't think that would have happened if he'd contributed nothing. Perhaps the penalty had something to do with it. The football league paper paper has the two lowest marks for Lines and Gaffney, so that reassures me somewhat. I think you're clutching at straws there. My contention is with your comment that Lines contributes nothing. He played very well yesterday and I think you'll find that the scores on the Player Ratings support that. Linesy, like the rest of the team, made a very useful contribution towards a excellent all round team performance.

Interesting thread with such a variety of opinions on players' merits. I'll just say this. I haven't been prouder of a squad of players since we won the league in 1990. The way they continue to strive to eke that little bit more out of themselves is outstanding. I like the natural evolution that has happened in the squad year on year. The only downside is that we're getting bugger all for our star players when they go, for instance even 27 years later we got comfortably less for Bodin and Taylor than we got for Martyn and Penrice, and that is making the progression we all yearn for doubly harder to achieve. Totally agree with your first paragraph. The Martyn and Penrice era was so different in that it was pre Bosman, nowadays transfer values are massively influenced by the length of contract you have remaining, we could secure better transfer fees by dishing out longer contracts but that has its own drawbacks. A tough one for administrators at clubs to get right.

I must be the only one who thinks Leads is crap. His dribbling is completely out of control, he runs like bambi on ice with his little skinny legs. The same "little" skinny legs that carried him to the English Schools National Championship 400 metre finals a few years back! Not someone who runs like "Bambi on ice".

....& there was me thinking Lines & Gaffney we’re excellent today. Of course you did. But as I say, even the football league paper agrees with me. Current average rating on the Player ratings thread is 7.3 based on 23 fans who were at the game. Don't see how you can make any argument that he didn't have a decent game.

I would suggest the players rating thread on here is a fairer representation of all the players performances as well as Chris Lines. I would suggest the FL papers ratings are the opinion of one individual, possibly Gasincider.

I doubt that Bideford. Like anything gas related, this forum does not represent the average fans that go. I'm only expressing my opinion, and many, constantly, especially away, can be heard criticising his lack of involvement. Unless you are selectively deaf of course.

Ah, but that's a different argument altogether!! If your position is that generally Lines doesn't always seem to perform then I may be inclined to agree. Your post on here was that he didn't play well on Saturday when in my opinion he did. A view that seems to be shared the (small) cross section of fans here.

Strange how all commentaries and so on, on social media, nobody mentions Lines. It's all about those who we all agree played well.
Get the unpronounceable one (Otzumer ?)from Walsall, and I think you would see a team getting into the top six. Get another winger, and a decent number 9, and who knows how far we could go.
Still, onwards and upwards.

He's been widely regarded as one of the best players in the division for the last couple of years, cleans up on all goal of the season awards, PFA team of the year etc so would he make a sideways move? That's before we even think about transfer fee and wages. I'd have thought he'd be on the radar of a fair few Championship clubs?

Left back position is a weakness in our team.

Must say I prefer Leadbitter at home on the right, sometimes he's like a right winger.

Still, onwards and upwards. See this is an odd shout for me. Oztumer is one of the best players in the league, and financially and relative to league-position, Walsall are a very similar club to us. That'd be like Walsall demanding they sign Sercombe. Just not realistic. If he was to go, he'd go to Wigan or Blackburn. Just my opinion. We'd all like players to Oztumer, but in reality we have to be looking at L2/Conf and find the best players from there instead.

The two fullbacks on Saturday performed as part of a matchwinning team, admittedly they have faults. That is why they are playing at this level (I know Bola is from a premiership side doesn't mean he will make it there), the spirit shown by each and everyone of them is to be applauded in my opinion!
Let's just not get carried away in the debate of who is the better player; just enjoy that we turned round a difficult game on Saturday with a good all round performance where each and everyone of them contributed
