If we had played in that first 45 minutes against either Holland or England. Absolutely sh**e the pair of them. Why do our players decide to try and play like spain as soon as they put the national shirt on. We try to play such a patient slow build up game and the players we’ve got aren’t suited to it at all. Terry Venables had the right idea, fast direct attacking play the English way, no one since has played that way and we’ve modtly been crap. England will jog around at a snails pace for 90 minutes 3 or possibly 4 times and get a plane home and Holland aren’t even in it.

I was surprised at the comments from the itv studio praising it. Henderson is absolutely stealing a living, we have no real quality in that side that will win any tournaments. Slow, boring, lack of goals and creativity.....typical England match

I enjoyed it more when he put the kids in. At least they were trying.

The adverts at half time were quite enjoyable.
I only caught the last 5 mins of the first half. It's now 10 mins into the second half and I've already had enough.
Lake Placid Vs Anaconda is on the other channel.

Rose has had a shocker at left back. He’s give the ball away nearly every time yet Hoddle thought he had a good game shows what I know. Lee Brown would have been better than him.

Thing is with the pace we’ve got in our squad I genuinely believe that if we got someone like Eddie Howe in andthe players listened to him we could get to the semi finals maybe further in a major tournament. Fast attacking direct play , full backs overlapping etc. Our players need to play to their skills and a slow typical international build up isn’t their game. To succeed in anything you do in sport you have to play to your strengths and make the most of what you’ve got. We’ve got fast players with limited technique.

I think we will win the world cup because our centre halves maguire and stones are big lads, well over 6ft while spain will be fielding that 6ft midget sergio ramos.

Memphis Depay best player on the pitch by a mile, shows quality that we lack.

What’s the latest ? I decided at half time that taking the bin out , doing the recycling and cleaning the bathroom would be more entertaining

Ive been saying this for years, we play our normal game all year round and then change to suit the opposition and play daft football instead of playing our own game and let the opposition worry about us and until we change attitude we are not going anywhere

Lol. Couldn't even be arsed to watch it. Would have been a complete waste of my time as far as I'm concerned.
England play such an insipid, tame and timid style of football these days. It's so frustrating to watch the players we know can entertain (as they do in the league week in week out) turn up and play in such a safe way and not feel confident enough to express themselves. It must be psychological I think, they seem afraid to go for it in case they make a mistake.
Tbh i would rather we had a right good go, if we lost a few games along the way so what.
We haven't got a chance in Russia playing like that imo.

Did any of you actually watch the game?
We played good football in the first half. Sometimes I wish we played more of a build up game at the mem rather than half of the ground groaning because we’ve passed it around a few times...
Much better than giving it away, no? 🧐

Much better than giving it away, no? 🧐 Yes keeping the ball is better than giving it away but playing to your strengths is more important than trying to play the way that other successful teams play if that doesn’t suit your players. Technically we are no where near as good as the top 10 maybe 20 nations on the planet. What we have got is pace , strength and that’s typical of our game. I think that if we slow it down and look to play through slowly we’ll probably fail to beat Tunisia or Panama maybe even both because they’re going to put 11 men behind the ball and we haven’t got the technique and vision in my opinion to break sides like that down. Previous recent major tournament results against so called international minnows back that up. Algeria , Costa Rica , Iceland ? We’d be much better off playing more direct , fast attacking ( pace is our biggest strength) football. But we won’t we’ll stroll around passing it about slowly and struggle for Goals v Tunisia and Panama and probably come away with three or four points needing at least a draw v Belgium which I wouldn’t put money on. Seen it all before.

I entirely agree. And yet the Netherlands, so long held up as a beacon of footballing excellence, are even worse! And that’s before we get to Italy next week!

Seen it all before. Have to agree with this. Generally English players are nowhere near as comfortable on the ball when under pressure as players from many of the top sides. So we look a million dollars stroking it around in our own half but the minute we get near the famous 'final third' (which is by that stage congested with opposition players) we lack the ability to hold onto the ball or play with any kind of vision so we either lose the ball or have to play it back into our own half. Does seem odd that we have a certain style of play in our domestic leagues but we don't back ourselves to use it on the international stage. That said, we beat Holland.

Hopefully the likes of Jadon Sancho, Tom Davies, Phil Foden, Ryan Sessagnon, Rhian Brewster, Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Marcus McGuane, Trevor Chalobah and Eddie Nketiah can keep progressing and we might have a bright future at international level. The England youngsters had a pretty impressive 2017.

Much better than giving it away, no? 🧐 To be honest I quite enjoyed the game, England did play some good stuff but as others have mentioned not much in and around the Dutch box ( oh that sounds dirty! ) Vardy was a strange one he played just over 20 mins but I can’t actually recall him touching the ball? Anyone know what’s the extent of Kane’s injury is and will he be okay for Russia?
