I've said it before and I'll probably say it again, you don't necessarily have to spend big money on a fee to get a quality striker. There are plenty of good ones across Europe on a free this summer. Sadly though we never seem to look outside League1, League 2 and the Conference. Don't get me wrong, it's served us well but surely it wouldn't do any harm to cast the net a bit wider. We were told that was one of the reasons Brian Dutton was brought in. The Bristol Post said at the time he "will be charged with identifying players from abroad who would suit Rovers' playing style." Hopefully he has made some progress on that front this season.

Said it before but got shot down a bit but I’ll say it again anyway. If you want a decent striker at this level who’ll score you the 20 plus goals a season you need , you have to splash the cash. 400-500k might get you someone from the div below ( Christian Dodge?) who’s contract might be going into last 12 months. Goal scorers invariably cost money and unless you’re prepared to fork out you’re just hoping you get lucky . DC found Matty Taylor and Bodin - both cost nothing - they are out there and rely on DC to find him Yep most of our best strikers in our history were frees or a for very little cost. I’m pretty sure Nichols is our most expensive striker ever. I rest my case

Careful what you wish for, the grass isn't always greener as they say!

Home is best, blimey look at the list of strikers we discovered this last 20 years , got on the cheap, and made a few bob with sell on clauses, must show development squad players they will get chance here as well as finding the Bazzas of this world and sir Rickie's,they are out there, so go get em Rovers, no need for foreign mercenaries to whom the quarters will mean nowt!

The trouble is everyone is looking for the next Bazza or Rickie and the competition is fierce. There is only a relatively small talent pool to choose from and the prices in this country are increasing for players in the lower leagues/non-league. There might be better value to found looking abroad.

Said before and I will say it again. DC as run out of ideas he is not good enough to lead us out of this division Didnt notice you posting this last week after we more than matched a Blackburn side on the verge of automatic promotion. Let's pretend this is true who are you suggesting could take us up given the same resources that DC is working with ?

Nicholls has been a horrible expensive mistake from the off. We're stuck with him. No one will take him off us for a fee. That leaves praying he has some sort of epiphany for next season. Gaffer's will go, Telford will come on a free, Nicholls will drop down and down, behind the youngsters coming through.

Having looked at the Rotherham forum, it seems that the matchday boss was in Barcelona when it was struck by terrorists. He therefore decided that for all future major games, they would have armed police on standby.
Fair enough, but wonder how much that costs the local ratepayers!

We should be picking up players released for the championship if we want to go further. We can quote Taylor and Bodin but Taylor hasn't really been a success at the crap has he, and remember Billy asked for a trial DC didn't go out looking for him. To prove a point we sign a player from Aldershot who looking at videos appears to be a very good player, but he has struggled to play any part when he has come on in the first team. Lets hope we don't sign any players from Peterborough, or Exeter for that matter

Its interesting that Telford VOLUNTEERS to play for the development squad to keep sharp, Nicholls doesn't. What does that say about his ethic / progress?

Regardless TN is under a nice 2 or 3 year contract DT desperate for a contract next season, that's a nice motivator!
