I know it was very short term but didn't we pay Andy Rammell £8000 a week in the early 2000's in our successful battle against dropping out of the league and he only had one good leg. I did though enjoy his winner up at Oxford which more or less made us safe. Yes. He certainly hopped up to the mark. Did he ever audition for the part of Tarzan?

All those Man U players and, I believe, a wealthy business man are funding Salford City. People like that usually want a return on their investment, and I struggle to see how they will achieve that. The reason I say that is because the club's main source of income will be gate money. Traditionally Salford got perhaps a couple of hundred through the gates. I don't know what their gates are now, but I very much doubt they will cover the wages of Gaffney and this Rooney bloke, let alone the rest of the squad. Plus the fact they will become known as a club that pays good money, and agents will up their demands for their clients services once Salford come calling. Even if they make it to the EFL, it's not as if they're operating in an area that's devoid of football, I'm sure that anyone interested in football around there probably go to City or United already. The point I'm trying to make is that I see this as unsustainable. If we're making an annual loss, how will this club ever succeed when they're surrounded by so many established premier and EFL teams? Football kudos doesn't come cheap these days. I dont think the Man Utd players really want a return for their money invested. Its a just a club that they have chose mainly because that is where they are from, with the exception of Ryan Giggs. They are all still earning millions per year you would imagine, always on tv or managing national teams now. The higher the ladder they climb, you can guarantee they will have higher profile sponsorship and partnerships. They (Giggs, Nevilles, Butt (Salford)) have their own season review on the BBC each year and they seem to get selected for TV coverage for the FA Cup already. Financially and being sustainable whilst the class of 92 are associated with Salford is something they wont have to worry about.

Nichols must be on a fair wage. I’m sure Peterborough pay good wages and we spent 300k on them so he’s got to at least be in 2.5 a week

They are talking about the Rooney transfer on talksport at the moment and discussing wage comparisons. Dean Saunders says the average wage when he was managing in the Conference a few years ago was £1000pw with some strikers earning up to £2000pw which was offset by having defenders and youngsters on lower wages. With us being a big city club two divisions higher I don't think it beyond possibility that we can be paying the odd player £3000, £4000 or even £5000 per week.

Can't wait for it all to go wrong at Salford They aint breaking any rules. They have the money to spend so fair shout to them. They are trying to buy players to get them out of their division. The issue is will they have the income to manage their spending when they eventually get into the football league when they will have rules and the FFP to deal with.

As I've pointed out on other threads, FFP is easy to get around. The FL Turnover figure includes donations from the owners to the club and injections of equity. www.financialfairplay.co.uk/scmp.phpSalford are half owned by a billionaire. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Lim

I know they're not breaking any rules, but no one liked it when it was FGR and Eastleigh, whys it acceptable for Salford but on a even bigger scale? Plenty of clubs down there struggle financially and Salford come along and give players 200K a year which is enough to fund most teams at that level for the season.
