Rattles Rosettes Flat caps going up in the air when a goal goes in Men in white coats doing half time pools scores and checking your programme to work out which letter is which team! Players getting straight back up after a foul Proper tackles Yellow and red cards a rarity One substitute. No names on shirts Shirts 1-11 plus no 12 on the bench No sponsors on shirts Black boots! Referees with white laces (they had to wash them!) Pass backs to keepers Mud baths Oscar!

Away teams turning up in their traditional shirts (unless there was a colour clash). No teams wearing black. The ref and linesmen (not assistant refs) wesring black. All goalkeepers (apart from Plymouth) in green shirts with the teams normal shorts and socks. All boots were black (apart from Alan Ball in white!) Orange or brown footballs on Saturdays - white for floodlit games. Teams numbered 1 to 11.

Just thought of another after the farcical results this weekend - teams putting out their strongest sides in the FA Cup!

And two more: Only the goalkeeper wore gloves. Here's one for Jock - every top English club had at least two Scots in the team!

Years ago my dad went on a work trip to the US. He came back with lots of unusual sweets - one I recognised as a Marathon bar, but to my confusion was called Snickers.
