If I was the groundsman, I'd be pretty ticked off having that Manitou (telehoist)running on the edge of my pitch, even with the boards down.

Why didn't they expand the South stand and put a hard roof on it? Dare I say it is because seats on the side of the ground cost more?

I probably need to learn to lower my expectations but I was expecting a cantilever roof like all new stands at virtually every other football club in the country.

What made you expect that the South West stand that we've had for the last 2 years would suddenly have a cantilever roof when it was put back in place?

Would have thought a cantilever stand would have needed planning permission, also if you've ever been behind the West stand, you'd know there isn't enough room for a cantilever stand. The most important bit, where would the money come from for said stand?

Nah, we've already got one of those on the east side. Surely in order for the new stand to be in keeping with the rest of the ground it has to be different from all of the other stands and structures we have already.

You make a good argument, except it's not the South West Stand that we've had for two years. It's a "new South West Stand". Both it and the new Family Stand "are of a bespoke construction and involve the manufacture of new roofs". The seating plan is different from the old stand and as a result at least some season-ticket holders had their seat numbers changed. The most important bit, where would the money come from for said stand? Cantilever simply means that the roof beams are only supported at one end. They can be as small as a few seats deep. The new stands are paying for themselves.

My understanding was that the SW stand was going back in place as is always has been and that the 2 new stands were for either side of the Centenary Stand. One as the new family stand and the other for away fans thereby freeing up the whole south stand for home fans.

Why didn't they expand the South stand and put a hard roof on it? Dare I say it is because seats on the side of the ground cost more? I have been saying regularly on this forum and the old one. The club is losing a six figure sum per season on a very limited away allocation. Pompey have been given a mere 1100 tickets and sold out. What's the bet we will be 2-3 000 short of capacity v Pompey when we could be filling the ground up. Personally: i would let Pompey Muff Coventry Sunderland etc bring 2000 plus rather than allow 3000 empty places. For example: if we sold another 1000 to Pompey charged £25 for seats and added on drinks/food we will make £30;000 in one game. www.eticketing.co.uk/pompeyfc/

Fair point but every single football club could use that argument in order not to increase away allocation. Wycombe or Oxford could say " Let's limited local derbies to 1000 away thus saving on polcing". I rather fill up a ground which should be the aim of every football club operating.

Plymouth being an obvious case in point. However, I would agree that we could be more flexible on away allocation for the 4-5 games a year that the away allocation is sold out. Did I imagine that there is also a plan to put up additional seating behind the away terrace as well as the south-west and north-east stand?
