Although we have our own section on the Gaschat site, we're not expecting everyone to find it... well, it's HERE actuallySO... I've decided to make this thread and use it to give updates on our events, former player news, and to add in the articles we write for the BRFC matchday programme.

Here's our new website header for www.brfpa.org.ukIf you don't know about us, then we are the Bristol Rovers Former Players Association (BRFPA) and we proudly provides recognition and support to former BRFC players and team staff. In early 2017 Bristol Rovers Football Club helped kick start this new venture by encouraging a squad of volunteers to come together to form an official Association. We held our inaugural meeting at The Memorial Stadium in Bristol on 6th April 2017. A Committee was formed, a Constitution was adopted and a formal proposition to open a bank account was passed. The objectives of the BRFPA are: 1 - To promote the history and heritage of Bristol Rovers Football Club and to foster the spirit of fellowship, sportsmanship and goodwill among former players and their supporters. 2 - To promote a framework of opportunity through structure and deed which will allow ALL members to participate in and benefit from the activities of the Association. 3 - To promote sporting and social activities for and on behalf of BRFPA. 4 - To offer financial and other support to Full members in distress or hardship. The volunteer Committee currently (July 2018) consists of - Chairman - Tony Mills Secretary & Membership Secretary - Mo Bell Treasurer - Clive Farquhar Webmaster, Social Media & Newsletter - Me (Martin Bull) Players’ Representative - Dave Gilroy Committee Members - Alan Cockayne, Simon Hedges, Bob Munro, Geoff Smith, Mike Tremlin, and Stewart Wolf. Our esteemed President is Billy Clark.

We will have a page in every League matchday programme
We will try to give advance notice of which ex-players will be coming to the Mem, but it is sometimes a bit of a logistical quagmire.
On Saturday (Accrington Stanley game) BRFC and the BRFPA welcome back a player who has surely deserved an entry or two in the record books.
We have Ash Belsten to thank for this, as Ash has organised the amazing Martin Belsten Memorial Match in aid of St. Peter’s Hospice in Brentry. The game pits BRFC Veterans vs Fans and takes place on Sunday (12th Aug) at Mangotsfield United. Gates open 12.30pm, with a 2pm kick off. Please get yourselves down there, get £5 out of your pocket, and enjoy a great afternoon.
Ash has arranged to help bring Vitalijs Astafjevs and his family over from Latvia for his game, and all are joining Wael and others to watch the opening home match of a new season at the Mem.
Sergio Ommel is also coming over from Holland to join the group, his first trip back to the Mem since 2002.

How many of them do you think could do a job upfront? TBH, from that lot, not too many Although Billy Clark & Andy Tillson are still well fit, so maybe it could be the old 'centre back pushed up front' tactic? a.k.a. 'the Virgo' as it's known

Can Clive Platt and Ama Bakayoko join the nearly Bristol Rovers Former Players Association (nBRFPA) ? Nigel Pierre might be the only player who could join both groups? Unless there are loan players that had a proposed permanent conversion fall through? ..they can be invited to the BRFPA but are automatically in the nBRFPA?

I had a folk memory that he never actually got to play for us, but he did...somehow. still not sure how. Thinking of that, and the above, Ollie had to beg & plead to a tribunal to get a work permit for Vitas. Can you imagine the weird & wonderful comparisons he probably came out with?

Can anyone do a L to R for me on the headline photo - I can only get four... I think: Chris Mclean, Billy Clark, Geoff Twentyman and Andy Tillson. There are one or two that I feel i should get and there are some I have no idea who they are. regardless, four is a terrible score.
