Being on the end of some abuse, the path for retribution was very limited, but with the advent of the new GDPR rules, the "owners" of forums/social Media sites now have to be very careful about what is "posted" on their sites... Something i'm investigating with the help of a media savvy law firm as we speak Does this make moderating this forum harder for the moderators? Should they be looking at more posts and should they charge to use the site if that is the case. Your input would be most useful, I take it Before the 25th May anything is non GDPR, it is only anything after this date? We don't own this site, it's a free to use platform. Fanboy pays for our domain name. In terms of becoming a paid to use site, that would be impossible for us. We don't generate enough traffic to make advertisement revenue and nor do we have enough members to make it worthwhile as a paid subscription service. One option I believe may be possible (and maybe even likely) is that we shut the access to this forum down to non members so that you can only view Gaschat if you are a member. Then somewhere we have proper membership rules that state you can only be a member if you don't sue us!! We currently have something similar on this site anyway but I think by stopping access to public viewing we lesson our potential exposure but I'm not certain. As volunteers, the Mods here make every effort to allow free speech and sometimes things can and do get missed or misunderstood. Where that has been the case we have always been open to approach to make corrections or to remove offending posts. I also think that there is an understanding that this is a football forum. Players, Club officials and other fans all accept that football forums are basically somewhere people go to talk sh**. They are easy to ignore and avoid by players. No one is directly addressing them here. Finally, in the interests of openness, in 4 years of Gaschat I have been personally contacted by the Club just once to remove a potentially libelous comment. It was handled really well by the club and was not heavy handed or threatening. I have also had a long meeting with Tom Gorringe in the past which was about establishing a friendly relationship so that we can carry on just as we always have, but where necessary someone can reach us and quickly resolve any potential problems. That meeting was a good 6 months ago or more and so far TG has since seen fit to contact me about Gaschat content a total of never. As ever, I would ask people to just moderate themselves a little better!

This has been done. They are in London!!! I hope his comments (about wanting to be closer to his family) will end the often-quoted nonsense about players not wanting to come here because it's too far from everywhere else. About an hour and a half from London sur le train. Easy Peasy. Whatever reasons there may be that we don't catch a good player, it's not because we are in Bristol. Absolutely. If anything "Bristol" apart from house prices perhaps is an extremely attractive option

Quality Post Hugo and how it should me, i just hope other forums have the common sense that you have shown regarding this forum Just realized I didn't actually answer the whole question! Yes moderating this site can be very difficult. You have to allow everyone a fair crack to express their views on here. Where we have deleted posts or locked threads, sometimes its because we feel it's for the good of the forum or we've been asked to by the OP or had enough complaints. Despite what people think, it's rarely because the Mod team just don't like something that's being said. There have even been threads locked or deleted on here that people have taken to be an admission that we are complicit in silencing certain things or admitting some terrible truth where in actual fact we are just allowing this place to just move on. In these days of political correctness, snowflakes and a general lack of people's ability to take a joke or laugh at themselves it's never been harder to moderate an online forum and it has certainly got harder in the 4 years I've been doing it.

It's also worth saying we often refuse to delete stuff which we actually think is really Dam stupid. It doesn't mean we agree with the stuff, it just means that really Dam stupid isn't actually against the forum rules.

For that alone you have my respect.

To second Hugo and Antonio, it's important for users to remember that gaschat is entirely user-led. We have no control over the output we just moderate the output that users create/post.... It's also important to realise that us mods have no objective at all to control the forum, we only moderate it, you can post your feelings good or bad but all we really want (as said previously) is self moderation....
That actually sounds too simple....
